    Get PDF
In the historical development, river is a form of oldest civilization in the world. So that, river has very important role in human life. But, human awareness to keep and maintain river becomes lower when time goes by. Rivers are often converted to be used as waste disposal site by humans. It results urgency that efforts to keep and care about rivers are necessarily needed to be done, especially in developing country like Indonesia. In this paper, authors give an idea to arouse public awareness through the Environmental Management Learning Program with a case study in Bengawan Solo riverbank. It is because River Bengawan Solo is one of the rivers which has become one of the highest carbon emitters in Indonesia due to various human activities towards this river. Therefore, this program can be developed in the riverbank of many countries, especially developing countries.

Anti-Fatigue Activity of Honey From Apis mellifera, Apis cerana, and Trigona sp in Mice

    Get PDF
Fatigue is a major factor in the decline in the quality and quantity of the athlete's performance. The cause of fatigue is the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscles. This is caused by the body's ability to neutralize lactic acid is not proportional to the speed of lactic acid formed by the severity of sports activities undertaken, if it lasts long, it will interfere with the performance. In the present study, we investigated the anti-fatigue activity in male mice of honey from Apis mellifera (HAM), Apis cerana (HAC), and Trigona sp (HT) using a forced swimming test. Mice were divided into four groups (three honey administered groups and the control group). The control group were gave with distilled water and honey administered groups were gave with honey (1,14 g/ body weight). After three weeks, a forced swimming test was performed and the biochemical parameters related to fatigue were examined. The results suggested that honey could extend the swimming time to exhaustion of the mice, as well as increase the tissue glycogen contents, while decreasing the blood lactate and maintaning blood glucose level. This indicated that honey had anti-fatigue activity and could elevate the exercise tolerance.

Development in economics based on decentralization in Indonesia is a strategic move by the Indonesian government currently realized by regional autonomy. The purpose of the implementation of regional autonomy and fiscal decentralization according to Law no. 32 of 2005 is to increase the independence and reduce fiscal dependence of local governments to the central government. Wonogiri is a district in Central Java which has revenues larger than the target area (BPS 2012). But we need to prove whether Wonogiri has financial independent or not from this reasearch. This method of research is use independent financial indicator with four tools of mesurement. We use the secunder data from Revenue Board of Wonogiri Goverment start form 2008-2012. This goal of this research is founding the degre of dependence of distric to central goverment in decentralization era. This research can be used by goverment to make evaluation of decentralization policy.

Frequency of use Minute concentrations of Cadmium and Magnesium in aqueous solution can be measured by Near Infrared Spectroscopy

    Get PDF
This study was focused on detection of Cadmium (Cd) and Mangnesium (Mg) in aqueous solution using Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS). Although detectable, minerals have no absorption in NIR region, but alteration of the vibration mode of water matrix caused by minerals can be detected by NIRS. Artificial samples was used in this research were contained metal diluted in aqueous solutions. Analysis were performed in the 400-2500 nm region and were subjected to a partial least-square (PLS) regression analysis; validation was performed by mean center and transformed by smoothing. The metals were scanned by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), in three consecutive days. Data for two days were used as data set and the rest of the data were used as prediction set. These results showed that the PLS model were able to detect metal ions in the NIR region of electromagnetic spectra with high accuracy even at low concentrations (0 -10 ppm). PLS model provided a powerful tool for investigation of the vibration and interaction of a mineral with water.

The purpose of this study was to define various meaning of food barn and to reveal local wisdom of south sumatera farmers. This study was held in South OKU Regency, South Sumatera. Qualitative method with phenomenology and interactionism symbolic approachment were aplied in this study. Purposively choosen informant were divided into key and proponent informant. Primary and secondary data were analysed into 3 stage; reduction, presentation and verification. The results showed that foodbarn were defined as 1) crop yield storage 2) storage when crop yield price were low 3) storage for reserved food especially when dry season 4) prevention site for disasters. Traditional farming tool and team work still exists in farming processes.

An evaluation of Factors Determining Vitro Flowering of Embryo Derived Shoot of Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis)

    Get PDF
Flowering is an important resulted from expandable of floral organs. In this particular study in vitro flowers were well developed from embryo derived shoot of oil palm (EDS) after 6 months on WPM medium containing 8 mg-l α-naphthalene acetic acid in combination with 12 mg-l Paclobutrazol with high concentration of sucrose (8%) and medium was subsequently subcultured every monthly prolonged to 6 months produced in vitro floral induction (10.2%). An early model due to precocious flowering on EDS of oil palm were occurred if there were long continued subculture for 6 months in the same culture medium whereas PGRs and Sucrose were beneficially contributed on regenerative organ regeneration. In the previous study histological examination has been made on the flowers produced by the inflorescence meristem revealed that these flowers were not true flowers. These flower-like structures were not found to have any reproductive structures and only contained bracts. This impacted that in vitro, under high sucrose and high concentration of NAA growth condition, the conversion of inflorescence meristem to a floral meristem is serious barier and being top priority concern among biotechnologist. The ability to control flowering will be feasible economically contributed to the oil palm industry and being recommended before exerted to the farmers.

    Get PDF
The purposes of the research are to investigate the effect of socio-demographic factors on the duration of breastfeeding and compare the effect between working woman and non-working woman. The investigated socio-demographic factors are; age, types of residential area (rural/urban), the level of education of mother, household income represented by household expense, and the availability of health care program. The samples used in this research are households in the area of Yogyakarta Province. The source of data comes from the Survey Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (The National Socioeconomic Survey) conducted by Badan Pusat Statistik (Central Statistics Agency). The analysis used in this research is regression analysis. The result shows that the mothers in rural area have longer duration in breastfed their babies. Working mothers are also longer in the duration for breastfeeding than non-working mothers. Working status is positively moderating the influence of area type on breastfeeding duration, negatively moderating the influence of household expense on breastfeeding duration, and positively moderating the influence of health care availability on breastfeeding duration.

An Analysis of Flow Characteristics on Countermeasure of Bank Erosion, Case Study: Sesayap River, East Kalimantan Indonesia

    Get PDF
Bank protection structure is applied generally as a countermeasure of the bank erosion problem. The structures, such as groynes, revetments and so on, will success to protect the riverbank locally. However, usually the structures will change the cross-sectional geometry, which lead to change the flow pattern or others hydraulics parameters. Furthermore, the structure will produce another bank erosion problem in another place, especially in case that the flow is a dominant factor in riverbank erosion problem. The horizontal two dimensional bed deformation analysis of the Sesayap River is performed. The advantage of the dredging method is discussed. The dredging of bars is the appropriate choice for the countermeasures of bank erosion of the Sesayap River at Malinau, when we considered the financial efficiency and bed degradation along both banks.
