Vetiver Grass As Phytoremediation For Mine Tailing On Tropical Residual Soil At Pongkor Mountain, West Java, Indonesia
Tailing is residual material of valuable mineral extraction in ores processes, usually dump into residual soils which products of the intensive in-situ weathering of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, and they include the group of iron-rich materials, usually described as laterites or lateritic soils which are very common in tropical areas. This research conducted by using method colecting data from soil and tailing characteristic by laboratorium scale and combine with previous research before. Generally, mining companies, especially gold mining in Pongkor Mountain, West Java is using NaCN compound in extraction processes. It is also appropriate by the geological characteristics in West Java that can produce residual soils. If the cyanide and the other heavy metal contents of tailings on Tropical Residual Soil produced exceeding the specified quantity standard, it would potentially damage the environment. This study is aimed to analyze the effectiveness of C. zizanioides (L.) or known as Vetiver Grass to decrease the concentration of the heavy metals (Cd and Cu) in residual soils as the contaminants from the tailings. The results indicated that the concentration of heavy metal waste (Cd and Cu) was decreasing along with the time exposure during the observation period. Using C. zizanioides (L.) effectively indicated removes metals Cd and Cu within 4 weeks with average removal efficiency are 37.64% (Cd1), 48.46% (Cd2.5) and 48.84% (Cd5) and 32.55% (Cu2.5), 54.68% (Cu5), and 52.59% (Cu7.5). This grass is also very easy to cultivate, so from the economic side will be very effective as phytoremediation. So it can be concluded the use of Vertiver Grass (C. zizanioides (L.) is very suitable to be done on residual soil in west java and can be used as role model for other regions that have the same residual soil characteristic in Indonesia

Prevalence And Patterns Of Polysubstance Use Among Adolescents In Bangkok, Thailand
Many unhealthy behaviors often begin during adolescence, and substance use is one of the most problematic issues for this age group. Substance use has a major impact on individuals, families, and communities, as its effects are cumulative, contributing to costly social, physical, financial and health problems, including mental health problems. Prior research shows that use of polysubstance is associated with even higher risks and worse consequences than single substance use, but little is known about the demographic factors associated with polysubstance use. The current study examines the prevalence and correlates of self-reported substance and polysubstance use among a cohort of Bangkok 11th grade students. Using data from the Bangkok Behavior Surveillance Survey (n=1,755), researcher estimated the prevalence of various patterns of adolescent use of alcohol, cigarette and marijuana in the past 12 months, individually and in combination. While 72.0% of individuals reported no substance use prior to age 16, the most common substance used in past 12 months was alcohol (26.2%), followed by cigarette (14.4%), and marijuana (5.9%). Nearly one in seven (14.1%) reported that either early use of both alcohol and marijuana or alcohol, marijuana and cigarettes, indicating the relatively high prevalence of this type of polysubstance use behavior among adolescents. Other findings indicate that substance use varied somewhat by demographic characteristics. Polysubstance use was more prevalent among males than females. The prevalence of marijuana use, cigarette smoking and binge drinking was higher among adolescents whose socio economic status were low compared to those with moderate or high socio economic status. This study confirms the elevated prevalence and importance of polysubstance use behavior among adolescents prior to age 16, and puts early onset of alcohol, marijuana and cigarette use into the context of use patterns rather than single drug exposures. Study limitations include the somewhat attenuated response rate, limited sample size relative to other national epidemiological studies, and the cross-sectional design
A Review Of Climate Change Adaptation Policy For Indigenous Peoples In Indonesia
Indigenous Peoples (IPs) is one of the vulnerable group to climate change. Climate change has degraded the Indigenous Peoples belief and livelihood. Moreover, IPs have traditional ecological knowledge as best practice in environmental management and adaptation for years. The traditional ecological knowledge (TEKs) used in environmental, social, and economic activities. Mostly the climate change policy used the top-down approaches with climate science background. At the International level, the right of Indigenous peoples to use their own belief for climate adaptation policy has declared in many agreements and development plans. The objective of this research is to study the implemented policy for the IPs on climate change adaptation in national and local level in Indonesia. This research used desk study and policy analysis based on literature review. The combination of the TEKs and climate change science analysis is mainly finding of this research to pursue both of bottom up and top down approach for policy making as appropriate climate change adaptation plans. Indeed, for the development project in Indonesia, there are lacks of action for Indigenous peoples for climate change adaptation
