    Get PDF
Originated from the Southeast Asia region, the betel nut chewing habits prevailed through immigration to other regions such as India, Taiwan, southern China, South Pacific Islands, and even to the Europe. The use of smokeless tobacco as betel nut with tobacco is highly prevalent in Myanmar compared with other countries. The misconception of smokeless tobacco use is less dangerous than tobacco smoking is a big challenge to the tobacco control measures. Then, a crosssectional study on comparison of knowledge, attitude and practice of betel chewing habit with structured questionnaire to two groups: normal group and blind group (n = 78) in Yangon, Myanmar is conducted. The selection criteria is having a history of taking betel quid regardless of race, sex, marital status in School for the Blind and normal individuals in Yangon region. 87% of male and 12.8% of female gender ranging from age 18 to 35 years participated in the study. The results show that there is no strong significantly difference in knowledge, attitude and practice on betel chewing habit of two groups even though they are different in learning a behavior according to their different physical abilities. However, the study assures that their knowledge on betel quid has been satisfactory and they are still addicting to this habit due to their favorable surrounding environment like betel quid shops, family member users and socialization by friends. Therefore the supply of betel quid ingredients especially tobacco should be regulated strictly by government procedure and specific health promotion plan for disabled person as well as the social support system like behavioral therapy to already addicted one should be promoted

Application Of Stimulus-organism-response (S-o-r) Theory To Study Consumer Behavior Of Upscale Restaurants In Northern Thailand

    Get PDF
This study adapts and tests the theory of stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) in upscale restaurant context, which makes a significant contribution by segregating the stimuli into restaurant inducement and attitudinal level. The attitudinal level adapts the theory of planned behavior with an extended emphasis on social media-induced attitude to reflect the contemporary norm of social lifestyle. The restaurant-induced stimuli consider service and food qualities, and restaurant atmosphere. These stimuli would be studied for their ability to predict the different types of customer values namely economic value, hedonic value and functional value, and brand image, customer satisfaction and brand trust known as organism. The response includes another vastly neglected factor known as experience sharing especially useful for marketers to exploit for brand awareness creation and externality effect. In doing so this study would add significantly to the body of knowledge by exploiting the S-O-R theory in social media environment. The sampling is convenience based, by focusing on customers who have had visited any upscale restaurants in Northern Thailand. Judging from the numerous hypotheses raised, correlations, hierarchical multiple regressions and structural equation modeling (SEM) would be the main statistical analysis methods

This paper delved on the survey of the university BS Tourism Management graduates’ profile, employment and their employability. Descriptive method was used to study their profile and how they fared in employment. Correlation and test of independence were used to determine the factors influencing graduates’ employability. Results revealed high employment rate and had an ease of entry to the workplace. But as observed, there were mismatch in the kind of employment they are in. Data revealed salary is modest as they assumed their first job. Many of them changed jobs and stayed in their jobs due to salaries, benefits, and challenges on the job. Also, while the majority of the graduates are employed locally in the metropolis, the rest have moved to other countries. A clear vertical movement from one job to the next higher level job in a short span of time was observed. The movement between jobs gave them the opportunity to earn better and assume higher positions. Using the Fisher Exact Test, the civil status and employment status cross tabulation revealed that civil status is a good indicator of employability. The correlation between the salary and personal demeanor of the graduates and how they interact with their co-workers showed a fairly high probability that the salary will also increase. Having better personal demeanor is also related with the length of stay on the job
