Arsenic (As) contamination in deep-well water has presently been warned in some areas of An Giang province. The previous studies in An Phu district showed that the level of As in soils was also many folds higher than international standards that need to be studied; particularly in land use and water supply in agricultural production. The objectives of this research were to: (i) evaluate the situation of As contain in soil and well water from cultivated lands in An Phu district, An Giang province; (ii) evaluate the impact of coconut fiber and liming methods on the uptake and accumulation of As in peanuts. The survey studies indicated that all of deep-well water samples were contaminated with As from 97,5 μg/l to 469 μg/l in An Phu district. These levels exceed Vietnamese and WHO standards (<10 μg/L), and all studied communes used deep-well water for watering their crops (69,6%). The As averages of soil samples inside dikes were higher than outside dikes from 1,5 to 2 times. As concentration of all soil samples for planting peanuts inside the dike are always higher than outside the dike from 1,5 to 2 times. The averages of As levels of arable land samples inside dikes of An Phu district were from 40,1 to 47,8 mg/kg. When applied 5 tons of lime and coconut fiber per ha reduced As levels at 55,3% compared with treatment without lime and coconut fiber. The results also showed that, when applied lime 5 tons of lime and coconut fiber per ha had a significant effect on the growth and yield of peanuts. Productivity of the peanut that increased from 9,10% to 30,4%, compared without liming and coconut fiber. When applied lime, coconut fiber had a significant effect on amount of As in grains and bodies of peanuts was lower than without lime and coconut fiber treatments. The yield components indicated, peanuts were planted with coconut fiber and l liming, that had the best result and the the lowest was without liming and coconut fiber. When applied 5 tons of liming combined with coconut fiber per ha had the highest results, both level of As reduction in peanut grains and productivity. Necessary to study many levels of liming and coconut fiber and residual lime in the soil for the next crops. It recommend that people have safe farming methods and effects on soils of as contamination

The substitution from domestic to foreign currency as a way of holding wealth and a mean of payment for goods and services still robust in many developing countries. In dollarized economy commonly dollars’ currency dominated national currency, particularly in banking’s deposit and loans. As in Cambodia, commercial banks allow accepting for foreign currency’s deposit from account holders. The increasing share of foreign currencies over the domestic currency causes the instability of the exchange rate. Therefore, this paper examines the issue of dollarization and the exchange rate volatility movement in Cambodia over the period pre, and post global crisis. It uses series monthly data from June 1998 to September 2017 while Cambodia’s economy is likely stable and dominated by dollarization. We estimate only not with GARCH (1,1) symmetric model but also with asymmetric GJR-GARCH (3,1) model with different residual distributions to capture the appropriated volatility model estimations. The finding suggests that the asymmetric GJR-GARCH (3,1) under GED is the best fit model compares to others and shows that dollarization does depreciate of Riel per US dollar and induces the exchange rate volatility. This paper also gives a situation of dollarization processe

Cooperation among health workers need to be increased in order to provide better health services in Indonesia as well as develop good cooperating skills among professions. Collaborative services given by health workers will give positive impacts to patient outcome. Good collaboration among health workers can be prepared starting from education level through IPE (Interprofessional Education). IPE is applied to undergraduate students such as medical students, dentistry students, pharmacy students, nutritionist students, public health students, and midwifery students. For literature review and condition analysis, the writer applied a method that requires collecting and analyzing sources such as research articles and other literatures on IPE. IPE itself is an education process with two or more different disciplines used to apply interactive learning process in increasing collaboration and quality of health services and practices of each discipline. By applying IPE on students, it aims to make them learn how to give contribution in a team interprofession through knowledge, skills, and cooperation among teams in providing patients with satisfying health services. Students’ ability to handle conflict and good attitudes in problem solving indicates whether the application of IPE succeeds or not. There are several obstacles in applying IPE on institutions, such as difficulties in time management among health professional students due to differences of the schedule; the lack of academic regulation regulating aligned IPE application; problems in communication among professions; and the lack of interdisciplinary teachers. In conclusion, IPE is an important method that needs to be applied on health students in order to improve collaboration skills among professions and health workers. The methods that can be used in applying IPE are classic lectures, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and Team Collaboration Health Care (TCHC)

The Role Of Civil Society Organization In Shaping An Asean Identity

    Get PDF
ASEAN is a gathering of 10 countries with diverse political, developmental, religious and ethnic backgrounds, hence, it is hard for this Association to find its identity. If the EU has three common identities, including Christianity, democratic principles and free economic institutions, ASEAN has only one thing in common, which is anti-communism. However, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, this common point has come to an end. Now, ASEAN must build on its new identity. ASEAN leaders have chosen to build the “we” feeling by building ASEAN Community. It is believed that besides economic and institutional progress, any community must build an open society that must ensure social cohesion. It is also necessary to build a society where people have confidence, always participate in the process of development and policy-making. ASEAN now has not achieved it yet, although ASEAN is oriented towards people-oriented and people-centered communities. The tool to make this possible is the civil society because civil society always deals with grassroots problems where the government is sometimes helpless and at the same time reflects the immediate response of public needs. This paper focusing on tackling the research question is: “Why engaging civil society in ASEAN is necessary for enhancing the intra-integration and the shaping of identity, although ASEAN still operates primarily as an elite club?”. This is an important issue as civil society is playing an increasingly important role, whereas previous studies have only assessed the role of civil society at the national level rather than the regional level. Besides, a proper assessment of the role of civil society can help policymakers find appropriate coordination between civil society and ASEAN in the future
