Paradox of the path dependence in the dynamic capability framework
This paper focuses on the paradoxical relationship that exists between the concepts of dynamic
capability(DC) and path-dependence. In dynamic capability framework (DCF), the concept of
path dependence has existed with two conflicting implications for DC. The concept is an important
differentiating factor that can contribute to gaining sustainable competitive advantage, reflecting the
unique formation process (historical background) of DC. However, simultaneously the concept of path
dependence, which refers to the phenomenon of initial conditions and previous decisions continuing to
constrain present and future choices, can also become an obstacle to necessary change that should be
overcome by DC. We therefore search for solutions to resolve this paradox in DCF. First, we identify this
paradox as a matter of the nature of DC, based on its correspondence with the shift in Teece's view from
routine-based DCs to DCs that include non-routine ad hoc elements as significant entities. Then, We
focus on prescriptions for the 'path dependency trap' proposed in existing DC theory, classifying them
into the 'external intervention' approach (path change through conscious intervention by management
entity from outside the routine) and the 'endogenous change' approach (finding the opportunity and
source of path change in the routine), and identify their characteristics which differ considerably in their
views on routines and DCs. Finally, we propose that 'pragmatic reconciliation' of the two approaches and
the associated modification of the role of management entity are effective solutions to the paradox of
path dependence in DCF.departmental bulletin pape
Comparison of muscle mass between right-handed and left-handed pitchers. – Correlation between muscle mass and ball speed –
The purpose of this study was to compare the muscle mass between right-handed and left-handed pitchers
and to investigate the relationship between muscle mass and ball speed.
The subjects of this study were 67 male college baseball pitchers (49 right-handed pitchers and 18 lefthanded
pitchers). Body weight, body fat mass, lean body mass, skeletal muscle mass, and the muscle mass of the
upper limbs, trunk, and lower limbs were measured using a body composition analyzer. BMI, FFMI, and SMI were
calculated by dividing body weight, fat-free mass, and limb muscle mass by the square of height. The muscle
thicknesses of 12 areas (forearm anterior, upper arm anterior and posterior, chest, subscapular region, abdomen,
lateral abdomen, thigh anterior and posterior, and lower leg anterior and posterior) were measured using an
ultrasound diagnostic device. A speed gun was used to measure ball speed. The pitcher threw five maximum-effort
pitches to the catcher, and the highest value recorded was taken as the ball speed. To compare each measurement
index between right-handed and left-handed pitchers, an independent t-test was used. Additionally, Pearson's
correlation coefficient was calculated to examine the relationship between each measurement index and ball speed.
Ball speed was significantly higher in right-handed pitchers compared to left-handed pitchers (Right-handed:
136.6 ± 5.9 km/h, Left-handed: 132.2 ± 6.2 km/h). In right-handed pitchers, height, weight, fat-free mass, skeletal
muscle mass, and muscle mass in various areas (pitching arm, non-pitching arm, trunk, stride leg, and pivot leg)
showed significant correlations with ball speed. On the other hand, for left-handed pitchers, none of the metrics
showed a significant correlation with ball speed.
In the comparison of muscle thickness, right-handed pitchers showed significantly higher values than lefthanded
pitchers in the forearm anterior, upper arm posterior, and chest regions. In the relationship between muscle
thickness and ball speed, right-handed pitchers showed significant correlations between ball speed and muscle
thickness in the upper arm anterior and subscapular regions.
In conclusion, differences were observed between right-handed and left-handed pitchers in ball speed as well
as in muscle mass and thickness of the upper limbs and trunk. In right-handed pitchers, correlations were observed
between muscle mass and thickness in various regions and ball speed, whereas such correlations were not observed
in left-handed pitchers. On the other hand, FFMI and SMI were suggested to be important factors in determining
ball speed for both right-handed and left-handed pitchers.departmental bulletin pape

Development of morphology and muscles of the lower limbs and psoas major in children aged 6 to 8
This study aimed to elucidate the quantitative changes in morphology and muscle thickness of the
lower limbs and the psoas major muscle in children aged 6 to 8 years during early childhood. The same
subjects were longitudinally measured over three years for both morphology and muscle thickness.
Morphological measurements included height, weight, thigh circumference, and calf circumference.
Muscle thickness was measured at four sites: the anterior thigh, posterior thigh, posterior calf, and psoas
major, using an ultrasonic measuring device. The results showed that:
1. The thickness of the lower limb muscles and the psoas major muscle increased annually from
ages 6 to 8.
2. The muscles of the posterior thigh and calf showed a significant increase in relative values to
height, suggesting that these muscles develop more than other muscles during childhood.
3. It is suggested that the daily activity level of children during childhood does not provide enough
stimulation to promote muscle development that exceeds the growth of height in the anterior
thigh and psoas major.
4. The rapid increase in muscle mass of the anterior thigh, posterior thigh, and psoas major at
ages 6 to 7 is thought to be influenced by MGS.departmental bulletin pape
The Relationship Between Subject Views and Lesson Analyses of Prospective Physical and Health Education Teachers : An Analysis Based on Descriptions Following the Viewing of School Health Education
The objective of this study was to elucidate the subject views held by prospective physical and
health education teachers and to identify the specific tendencies in their lesson analyses associated with
each subject view. To achieve this, the relationship between the subject views and lesson analyses of
these prospective teachers was examined. Specifically, videos of school health education were shown
to the students, and these videos were analyzed by them. Three significant findings were revealed as
a result. First, the subject views of the analyzed prospective physical and health education teachers
were found to be skewed towards the development of individual-oriented competencies. Second, while
most participants referred to teaching methods in their lesson analyses, very few mentioned teaching
objectives. Third, notable differences in lesson analyses were observed depending on the subject views.departmental bulletin pape
Academic Writing Education as The First-Year Experience Program: An Analysis of Practice in “Japanese Expression Ⅰ and Ⅱ” Classes at Kyushu Kyoritsu University
This paper is intended as an analysis of practice in “Japanese Expression I and II” at Kyushu
Kyoritsu University. Until now, research on “Japanese Language Expression” classes in university
education has often been conducted in the field of Japanese language education. However, the majors
of the teachers in charge of such classes cannot be reduced to Japanese language education or Japanese
linguistics. In fact, all three authors of this paper majores in literature; comparative literature (Oba),
modern Japanese literature (Okawachi), and classical Japanese literature (Ninomiya). Therefore, it would
be possible to practice and analyze “Japanese Expression” classes from a broader perspective, such as
general education including literature, or the First-Year Experience (FYE) program. Therefore, this paper
analyzes our practice of "Japanese Expression I and II" classes.departmental bulletin pape
Analysis of viewing status and interest in international sports tournaments -Survey targeting university students
This study is a follow-up study on university students' TV watching and interest in international
sports tournaments, using the 2023 Men's Volleyball World Cup and Rugby World Cup as research
materials. In addition to the survey results for the soccer World Cup and baseball WBC, viewing levels
for the four tournaments were compared and trends in interest were analyzed. As a result, viewership
rates for the Volleyball World Cup and Rugby World Cup were significantly lower than those for the
Soccer World Cup and Baseball WBC. The final matches of both the Volleyball World Cup and Rugby
World Cup had high viewership rates, with rugby in particular being particularly high. Regarding the
media used, over 85% of students watched volleyball on TV, while about 70% watched rugby on TV,
with a higher percentage of students who watched rugby using the Internet. The correlation coefficient
for volleyball and rugby and the correlation coefficient for soccer and baseball both had a weak positive
correlation.departmental bulletin pape
Shionoya-On's Study in Germany as Seen in Historical Documents
It is a well-known fact that the famous Japanese sinologist Shionoya-On(塩谷温) (1878-1962), who
made a remarkable achievement in the study of Chinese fiction and opera, wrote his “Lectures on the
Introduction to Chinese Literature(支那文学概論講話) ” (1919), which had a profound influence on Lu
Xun's “A Brief History of Chinese Fiction(中国小説史略)” (1923). In his early years, Shionoya-On(塩谷温)
studied at the University of Leipzig from October 1906 to August 1909 in order to learn the methods of
German and European sinological studies.
This essay examines the influence of German sinology, particularly that of the sinologist Wilhelm Grube,
on Shionoya-On(塩谷温) 's study of Chinese literature, and explores the reasons for his study in Germany and
his exchanges with European sinologists from the perspective of modern Japanese acceptance of Western
approaches to sinological research.
