NEW RECORDS OF LONG-LEGGED FLIES (DIPTERA: DOLICHOPODIDAE) FROM IRAN
In this study, the following six long-legged fly species (Diptera, Dolichopodidae) collected in the East Azerbaijan province during 2010-2013 are new records for the Iranian fauna: Chrysotimus molliculus (Fallén, 1823); Hercostomus apollo (Loew, 1869); Hydrophorus balticus (Meigen, 1824); Medetera meridionalis Negrobov, 1967; Orthoceratium lacustre (Scopoli, 1763) and Poecilobothrus principalis (Loew, 1861). General geographic distribution of the species and supplementary figures are provided

Collection of bark beetles (Curculionidae: Scolytinae) formed by Professor dr. Svetislav Živojinović
One of the major insect collections stored in the depots of the Chair of Forest Protection of the Faculty of Forestry University of Belgrade is the collection of bark beetles formed by Professor Dr. Svetislav Živojinović. It consists of 14 262 specimens collected in the area of the former Yugoslavia, mostly in the territory of Serbia. The collection includes 63 species from 15 tribus and 25 genera. The specimens of 61 species in the collection originate from Serbia, 28 species originate from Macedonia, 21 from Bosnia and Herzegovina, 15 from Montenegro, 12 from Slovenia, and four from Croatia. This paper presents a list of species in the collection. Based on the label data, each species in the list is described by the data on the locality, date, and host plants on which it was identified, and a number of specimens
The first record of the ant genus Strongylognathus (Insecta: Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in Bosnia and Herzegovina with notes on the distribution of the genus in the western part of the Balkan Peninsula
Species of the ant genus Strongylognathus Mayr, 1853 are social parasites of Tetramorium species. Strongylognathus species reported from the western part of the Balkan Peninsula belong to the following groups: (1) testaceus group, represented by the species S. testaceus (Schenck, 1852), and (2) huberi group, represented by S. alboini Finzi, 1924 and S. dalmaticus Baroni Urbani, 1969. Analysis of distribution of the Strongylognathus species in the western Balkan Peninsula showed that S. testaceus (Schenck) can be found in the continental part and the Pannonian basin. Lack of data [one record of species S. alboini Finzi in Slovenia, two records of S. dalmaticus Baroni Urbani on the island of Biševo (Croatia) and a new finding on locality Popovo poljice (Bosnia and Herzegovina)] make an insufficient basis for analysis of their distribution
A proposal of Serbian names for dragonfly species (Insecta: Odonata) of the Balkan Peninsula, with the checklist of Odonata of Serbia
This work presents suggestions for Serbian nomenclature for 92 Odonata species which can be found in the states of the Balkan Peninsula and adjacent territories of Hungary and Romania. Sixty-seven species are chosen in particular because of written notes about their discovery on the territory of Serbia. Comments on the names suggested are made with the previously existing Serbian vernacular names for this group of insects in mind
The diversity of the family Cetoniidae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea) of mountain Ozren: Bosnia and Herzegovina
From April to September of 2008 and 2009 samples of family Cetoniidae Leach, 1815 were collected on the vertical profile of the southern slopes of Mount Ozren near Sarajevo. Research was conducted at six selected localities: Orlovac, Nahorevo, Čavljak, Skakvac, Bukovik and Crepoljsko. After 41 field investigations, 594 individuals were collected and determined as representatives of seven species. Collected data were processed with statistical software Biodiversity Pro and with options Diversity/Compare diversities: Alpha index; Berger-Parker index; Simpsons index; Margaleff index; Mackintosh index; Bray-Curtis Cluster Analysis: Single Link. By comparison of data it was concluded that Skakavac represents the typical locality for southern slopes of Mount Ozren. The species Oxythyrea funesta (Poda, 1761) is the most numerous faunistic element that was found
The longhorn beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) of Rtanj mountain: Serbia
During several field trips organized between 1996 and 2012 a total of 94 species of longhorn beetles were captured on Rtanj Mt. in the vicinity of the village of Rtanj (eastern Serbia). Most specimens were collected by hand and with an entomological net, but a certain number were collected using wine and pitfall traps as well. Several different sites were investigated, including meadows near the asphalt road, the surroundings of the Rašinac Stream, limestone slopes, and deciduous and coniferous forests. Sixty-two species are recorded for the first time for Rtanj Mt., but eight of them are also recorded for the first time in eastern Serbia: Rhagium (Rhagium) inquisitor (Linnaeus), Grammoptera (Grammoptera) abdominalis (Stephens), Stictoleptura (Stictoleptura) erythroptera (Hagenbach), Obrium cantharinum (Linnaeus), Leioderes kollari Redtenbacher, Chlorophorus (Crassifasciatus) hungaricus Seidlitz, Phytoecia (Pilemia) tigrina Mulsant, and Agapanthia (Smaragdula) viti Rapuzzi & Sama. Among the identified taxa there are rare species, including Vadonia moesiaca (K. Daniel & J. Daniel) - an endemic species in the Balkan region; some of these rare taxa are protected both nationally and internationally
The longhorn beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) of the Đerdap National Park: Serbia
Over the period of 1991-2012 a total of 1,415 adult specimens of longhorn beetles were collected during 54 field trips to the territory of the Đerdap National Park (eastern Serbia). Most specimens were caught at Tekija, in the vicinity of the village of Miroč (Mt. Miroč), Donji Milanovac, and Kazan - Ploče, while a somewhat lower number was registered at sites in Kladovo, Golubac, Liškovac, Dobra, and Mt. Miroč (with no precise sublocality). The specimens were mostly collected by hand and entomological net, but a significant number of specimens were collected by wine and pitfall traps, a mercury-containing light bulb, and rearing. Several different sites were investigated in the studied area, including meadows, forest clearings, dense deciduous forest, numerous woodpiles, and cut trunks of deciduous trees. Altogether 104 species and 43 subspecies from 55 genera, 31 tribes, and six subfamilies of longhorn beetles were found to inhabit the investigated locality. The highest number of species and subspecies is registered within the subfamilies Cerambycinae (40 species and 16 subspecies), Lepturinae (32 species and 15 subspecies), and Lamiinae (27 species and 11 subspecies). One longhorn beetle species is cited as new for eastern Serbia. Data from eastern Serbia are recorded for seven species for the second time. Twenty-nine cerambycid species are recognized as rare in Serbia. A single subspecies is Balkan endemic. Thirty-six species are recorded for the first time for the Đerdap National Park. Seven species and two subspecies are protected both nationally and internationally. The cerambycids of eastern Serbia have been insufficiently studied until now and additional investigations are necessary in the area studied
True bugs (Heteroptera) of the Stara Planina mountain: Serbia
During summer 2011 and spring 2012 true bug specimens (Heteroptera, Insecta) were collected in the Stara planina Mountain area, at the sites of Jabučko ravnište and the surroundings of Temska village. Nine hundred and ninety-seven specimens were collected and the presence of 176 species from 25 families was confirmed. The most significant discovery was the finding of the species Velia (Plesiovelia) serbica Tamanini, 1951 in Temska village, which is the first record for Serbia of this species endemic to the Balkans. New species found for the fauna of Serbia are Heterocordylus (Heterocordylus) parvulus Reuter, 1881, Berytinus (Lizinus) crassipes (Herrich-Schäffer, 1835), Tropidophlebia costalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1850) and Drymus (Drymus) pilicornis (Mulsant & Rey, 1852). Also highly significant are the findings of the rare species Closterotomus reuteri (Horvath, 1882) and Elasmucha fieberi (Jakovlev, 1865), as well as a dozen relict species. Analysis of the bug fauna of Stara planina Mt. shows that 9% of fauna are classified as species of high conservation priority
Anatomy and ontogenesis of foliar galls induced by Odinadiplosis odinae (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) on Lannea coramandelica (Anacardiaceae)
Samples of healthy leaves and galls induced by Odinadiplosis odinae on Lannea coramandelica were submitted to routine techniques to investigate morphological and anatomical alterations taking place during gall development. The persistent galls on the midvein and the lateral veins are globose to subglobose/oval, hard, indehiscent, woody, sessile, solid, solitary and light brown in colour with a warty surface. Both palisade and spongy cells proliferate around the larval path. The neoformed parenchyma results from hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the spongy parenchyma cells initially but later the palisade also undergoes hyperplasia. Some of the cells bordering the larval path turn necrotic while certain other cells show meristematic activity due to the stimulus of wounding. The larvae seem to have settled either in the central parenchymatous region or sometimes in the lateral laminar region adjoining the midrib. The medullary cells surrounding the chamber are usually smaller and colourless and the cortical cells are filled with phenolic substances. Parenchyma cells between the vascular bundles also get neoformed and newly differentiated tracheary elements are distinctly observed
