    The first reliable data on the presence of Anacridium aegyptium (Orthoptera: Acrididae) in Serbia

    Although fauna of Serbian Orthoptera was studied in details during 19th and 20th century, a total number of species and their distribution is still insufficiently known. The area of southern Serbia is particularly interesting due to possible presence of species distributed in Mediterranean and sub-Mediteranean, such as Anacridium aegyptium (Linnaeus, 1764) found on a tarred road close to Macedonia. Although it was supposed to inhabit Serbia, no confirmed records have been known. As the specimen was observed out of its habitat, a more detailed study on its distribution and ecology is required. Also more attention should be given to fauna of Orthoptera of southern Serbia

    FIRST RECORD OF PYRGUS CINARAE (LEPIDOPTERA: HESPERIIDAE) IN SERBIA

    Pyrgus cinarae (Rambur, 1839) is currently known from eastern Spain, Albania, Macedonia, Greece, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Russia. At the end of June and beginning of July 2014 it was recorded in Serbia for the first time, expanding its known area of distribution in the Balkan Peninsula northwards. These records point out that southern Serbia may include several additional Mediterranean and Submediterranean species, and call for more systematic study and protection of butterflies in the region.     CONTRIBUTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GROUND BEETLE FAUNA FROM SERBIA (COLEOPTERA: CARABIDAE)

    During a two-year period of research on the ground beetle fauna in agroecosystems in northern Serbia 19,003 carabid specimens were collected. A total of 67 species from 29 genera were identified. Harpalus distinguendus (Duftschmid, 1812), Amara aenea (De Geer, 1774), Poecilus cupreus (Linnaeus, 1758), and Amara similata (Goeze, 1777) were the dominant species in the winter oilseed rape and winter wheat. The ground beetle genera richest in species were Harpalus, Amara, Calathus, Poecilus and Brachinus. Seven species were new for the ground beetle fauna of Serbia: Calathus cinctus Motschulsky, 1850, Laemostenus complanatus (Dejean, 1828), Brachinus nigricornis Gebler, 1829, Cychrus attenuatus (Fabricius, 1792), Patrobus septentrionis Dejean, 1828, Anchomenus cyaneus Dejean, 1828 and Pterostichus leonisi Apfelbeck, 1904. Three species were recorded for the first time for Vojvodina Province in Serbia: Harpalus signaticornis (Duftschmid, 1812), Harpalus taciturnus Dejean, 1829 and Patrobus atrorufus (Ström, 1768). Newly recorded species were collected in epigeic pitfall traps. Six of them were found in oilseed rape while one was found in winter wheat

    BIOLOGICAL INTERACTIONS WITHIN TOBACCO BIOCENOSIS

    Predatory hoverflies are useful pollinators in their adult stage and present a natural enemy of plant pests, especially of aphids in their larval stage.The observations were made with the application of the following methods of catching: check of all leaves of 20 tobacco stalks; and check of 100 tobacco leaves in 10-day intervals during the entire period of vegetation of the tobacco. The collected material was further nourished and analysed under laboratory conditions. The tobacco crop was attacked only by Myzus persicae Sulzer and larvae were reared on tobacco leaves infested with M. persicae in Petri dishes.During a period of three years Sphaerophoria scripta Linnaeus, Sphaerophoria rueppelli Wiedemann and Scaeva pyrastri Linnaeus are represented in great numbers. Under laboratory conditions the larvae from the species S. scripta consumed from 300 up to 365 aphids from the species M. persicae; the larvae from the species S. rueppelli, 280-321 aphids; and those of the species S. pyrastri, 280-563 aphids. These data show their great capacity for eating aphids. With their great voracity, and to preserve their own kind, they control the population of aphids on tobacco, and so have a great impact on the tobacco biocenoses. The aphidophagous Syrphidae are the main predators and they are ranged on the third trophic level of the food chain: tobacco leaf - aphids - aphidophagous hoverflies. In the complex food chain the aphidophagous Syrphidae are being parasitized by many species of parasites and because of that their ecological and economic use is lesser.During the laboratory analyses from 2003-2005 we detected ten parasitic species of the order Hymenoptera, ecloded in the pupae of the aphidophagous Syrphidae: Pachyneuron grande Thomson, Pachyneuron cf. grande Thomson, Syrphophagus aeruginosus Dalman, Diplazon laetatorius Fabricius, Diplazon sp. 2, Diplazon sp. 3, Homotropus sp. 1, Homotropus sp. 2, Sussaba sp. 1, Promethes sp. 1.The parasitism has a negative impact on reducing the population of the future generation of the species Syrphidae. The species S. scripta, S. rueppelli and S. pyrastri can be used as integral protectors of the tobacco leaf aphids, because of their great numbers and their great voracity

    CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE OF THE FAUNA OF CYNIPID GALL WASPS (HYMENOPTERA: CYNIPIDAE) OF MT. JASTREBAC (SERBIA)

    Thirty-four species in all were recorded in investigation of the fauna of cynipid gall wasps on Mt. Jastrebac. That number includes 30 species from seven genera (Andricus, 20 species; Cynips, four; Neuroterus, two; Aphelonyx, one; Biorhiza, one; Dryocosmus, one; and Pseudoneuroterus, one) of the tribe Cynipini; and four species from one genus (Diplolepis) of the tribe Diplolepidini. The species Andricus conificus (Hartwig 1843) and Cynips cornifex Hartwig 1843 are here reported for the first time for the fauna of cynipid gall wasps of Serbia.     ALLOMETRIC SHAPE CHANGES INDICATE SIGNIFICANT DIVERGENCE IN THE WING SHAPE BETWEEN ASEXUAL AND SEXUAL LINEAGES OF LYSIPHLEBUS FABARUM (MARSHALL) (HYMENOPTERA: BRACONIDAE)

    We used landmark-based geometric morphometrics to explore and quantify the forewing shape variation between asexual and sexual lineages of Lysiphlebus fabarum aphid parasitoids. We found a significant divergence in wing size and wing shape between the two reproductive lineages. Static allometry, which denotes size-related shape changes measured in different individuals at the same developmental stage within a population or species, accounts for the significant amount of variation in wing shape within each lineage (11.16 % in asexual, 7.5% in sexual). The allometric shape changes appear to be lineage specific, i.e., the allometric slopes of wing shape significantly diverge between lineages. Such a pattern indicates that asexual and sexual lineages differ in the covariation pattern of the wing shape. Further studies on larger datasets, including other Lysiphlebus taxa and closely related groups, would shed more light on the pattern of morphological variation and the significance of the reproductive mode on the morphological evolution of parasitoid wasps

    Gall Midges Gall Illustration Book (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae: Cecidomyiinae). The present paper cites 153 species out of 350 established in Serbia. The galls were collected and illustrated in a period of about 15 years, mostly in wider area of Belgrade. Herbarized plants with galls are stored in the collection “Herbarium cecidologicum Duške Simove” in the Natural History Museum in Belgrade. For each gall midge species the following data are given: host plant species and its family, valid name of the gall midge species and attacked plant part. The species are arranged by alphabetical order. Nomenclature of gall midge species is based on: SKUHRAVÁ (1986, 1989, 1997) and GAGNÉ (2004, 2010)

    EFFECT OF BOTANICAL INSECTICIDES NEEMAZAL-T/S AND PYRETHRUM APPLIED ALONE AND IN COMBINATION WITH DIFFERENT ORGANIC PRODUCTS ON THRIPS TABACI POPULATION DENSITY

    The trial was conducted with spring forage pea (Pisum sativum L.) from 2011-2013 in the experimental field of the Institute of Forage Crops, Bulgaria. The effect of three insecticides was studied:  NeemAzal T/S®, Pyrethrum FS EC (botanical insecticides) and Nurelle D (synthetic insecticide) applied alone and in combination with the growth regulators Polyversum (biological growth regulator and fungicide) and Flordimex 420 (synthetic growth regulator); and an organic foliar fertilizer known as Biofa on Thrips tabaci population density. The treatment was conducted once (at budding stage) and twice (at budding and flowering stages). Between the studied biological insecticides against Thrips tabaci (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) Pyretrum FS EC was distinguished by its higher protective effect and fast initial activity, while NeemAzal-T/S exhibited slow initial activity and a relatively weak increasing after-effect. Combined use of the bioinsecticides with the organic foliar fertilizer Biofa and growth regulator Polyversum established synergism. The synergistic effect was more pronounced in combinations with Biofa. The highest efficacy among the organic products was found under combined use of Pyrethrum FS EC and Biofa whose protective effect approximated that of Nurele D Chlorsyrine 550 EC. The double treatment of plants (at budding and flowering stages) with Pyrethrum and NeemAzal reduced the density of thrips by 28.9% and 20.1% respectively compared to the single application, without consideration of the method of use. The most efficient combination among organic products was the use of Pyrethrum with Biofa where the density of thrips decreased by 53.7%, followed by Pyrethrum with Polyversum (by 44.0%) and NeemAzal with Biofa (by 39.5%) irrespective of the stage of treatment
