The Meaning of Sarong in Madurese Culture: A Symbolic Analysis of Films on YouTube Mata Pena
Get PDFThe purpose of this research is to examine the symbolic meaning of the Madurese sarong as a cultural symbol in short films featured on the YouTube channel Mata Pena. The background of this research highlights the significance of the sarong as a symbol of identity and a representation of cultural values in Madurese society. The sarong is not only viewed as an item of clothing but also as a marker of social status, tradition, and honor passed down through generations. This research employs a qualitative method with a semiotic analysis approach based on Charles Sanders Peirce's theory, focusing on three main elements: sign, object, and interpretant. This framework is used to understand how the meaning of the sarong is constructed within cultural and social contexts. The findings reveal that the Madurese sarong carries profound meaning, both as a symbol of social status and cultural identity and as a representation of tradition, politeness, religion and honor in Madurese society.

Communication as Therapy: The Role of Interpersonal Interaction in Reducing Stress Among College Students
Get PDFThis study examines the therapeutic role of interpersonal communication in addressing mental health challenges college students face. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, involving in-depth interviews with students to examine the therapeutic role of interpersonal communication in addressing mental health challenges. The findings reveal that interpersonal communication, both with peers and family, serves as a primary support mechanism for alleviating stress and anxiety. Emotional support gained through these interactions fosters social connectedness and emotional relief and aids students in managing academic and personal pressures. However, privacy concerns often pose significant barriers. The study highlights the importance of creating supportive communication environments to enhance the therapeutic potential of interpersonal communication as an informal tool for addressing mental health challenges
Level Up Your English: Exploring the Power of Online Games in Indonesian High Schools
No full textThis systematic literature review investigated the potential of online games to enhance English language learning among Indonesian high school students in the EFL (English as a Foreign Language) context. The review focused on research articles published between 2018 and 2023 that employed qualitative, quantitative, and experimental methodologies. From an initial pool of 103 articles, 18 were ultimately selected for analysis. The research explored four key areas: (1) the pedagogical implications of integrating online games into English language teaching, (2) the types of mobile game applications most suitable for this purpose, (3) the impact of online games on students' English language proficiency, and (4) the potential challenges associated with using online games in the classroom. The review revealed that online games can foster students' motivation, vocabulary acquisition, reading comprehension, writing skills, and grammatical understanding. However, the research also highlights the importance of teachers developing effective strategies for integrating online games into their curriculum to maximize their learning potential
Comparison of the Vowel Formant Measurements in Karo and Simalungun Language
No full textThe study aims to discuss the vowel formant of the Karo and Simalungun languages. This study uses qualitative methods with the data described as numeric tables. In collecting data, the researcher involved three native speakers from both sides. The native speakers are three females from the Karo and Simalungun areas between 17 and 45 years old. The data was obtained by recording in a convenient location, and the syllables were naturally uttered. This study found that the Karo language has six vowels such as /a/, /i/, /u/, /e/, /É™/, and /É”/, and is similar to the Simalungun language except vowel /É™/. To compare the vowels, the researcher placed similar vowels to compare the form between both languages. The syllables's position, /a/, /i/, /u/, and /e/, is put at the beginning to make the syllable manageable, and the syllable /É”/ is placed at the end of the word. This study uses the software Praat to measure the vowel formant. Afterward, the data are calculated using the F1 and F2 from the spectrogram in Praat software. The results data shows that the highest formant in vowel /a/, /i/, /u/, and /e/ comes from KL, and the highest vowel /É”/ from SL
Improving Collaboration Skills of Students in Class V through Math Puzzle Games at UPT SDN 066054 Medan
No full textStudents are less enthusiastic when given tasks in groups. They are not used to dividing tasks and roles in their discussion groups because they are not used to collaborating in their discussion groups. At the same time, collaboration skills are critical in 21st-century learning. From the problems found, a Classroom Action Research (PTK) was conducted to find out the improvement of collaboration skills of class V UPT SDN 066054 Medan students through math puzzle games on the material of FPB and KPK. The treatment results over two cycles showed a significant increase in collaboration skills. In the pre-cycle, the percentage of students' collaboration skills was 53%. Furthermore, the sample was given treatment by working on math puzzle games in groups so that the percentage of students' collaboration skills in cycle I increased by 28% to 81%, and in cycle II also increased by 8% to 89%. Thus, it can be concluded that puzzle games positively and effectively impact students' collaboration skills in mathematics subjects

No full textThis study aims to shed light on piety cultivation among Salafi women through their engagement in studies hosted by the Nurul Iman Mosque in Blok M Square. This study investigates Salafi women's experiences after attending regular studies at Nurul Iman Mosque as a center for spirituality and Sunnah studies for urban areas in nurturing Salafi women's piety. This study argues that Salafi women who actively participate in mosque studies have a profoundly positive impact on their own piety, spirituality, and overall well-being. The study reveals that mosque studies act as a catalyst for change, nourishing the soul and creating a strong bond with the God. These women receive comfort, inspiration, and information that strengthens their religious commitment through the numerous studies offered. Mosques serve as social gathering places that promote a sense of sisterhood and belonging while providing a safe area for spiritual inquiry and self-improvement. This study also emphasizes the value of mosque studies in motivating urban Salafi women to reflect on and enhance their lives. Critiques Towards Family Law in Egypt Through the Work of Nawal El Saadawi
Get PDFThe history of family law reform in Islamic World can't be separated from contributions of the thoughts of the Islamic scholars from time to time. One of them is Nawal el Saadawi's contribution through her criticism of family law in Egypt. This article aims to discuss some of Nawal's criticisms based on two questions. First, what is Nawal el Saadawi's criticism of family law in Egypt? Second, what solution does Nawal offer to realize a family law that - she calls - is just? By answering both of the questions, it is hoped that this study will provide inspiration for academics and legal practitioners in their efforts to find a gender-just family law format. The method used in this research is qualitative with library research, namely by examining library sources that are relevant to the research theme. The results of this research are, first, material in Egyptian family law relating to divorce procedures, polygamy, bait at tho'ah, living and hadhanah, which Nawal considers is still discriminatory towards women. This discrimination occurs because the state ignores patriarchal culture in society. Second, in Nawal's view, efforts to realize just family law must be started from strengthening the principle of freedom of thought among Islamic scholars and legal practitioners
State and Fiqh: Examination of the Legal Status of Divorce in Verstek Decision Number 2939/Pdt.G/2023/PA.Mdn
Get PDFThis research is grounded in Decision Number: 2939/Pdt.G/2023, wherein the presiding magistrate rendered a verdict of Verstek in his consideration of the case. In such cases, the decision is rendered by the court in the absence of either the defendant or their legal representative. The validity of a verstek verdict in the context of the legitimacy of a marriage may be contingent upon the applicable legislation within the jurisdiction in question; thus, this investigation will consider both positive law and Islamic law. The objective of this article is to undertake a critical analysis of the decision rendered in Decision Number: 2939/Pdt.G/2023, which pertains to the use of a verstek decision to terminate a marriage due to childlessness, followed by disputes and quarrels. This research is a normative legal study with a case-based approach. The principal data source is derived from court decisions in the field of marriage law. The analysis reveals that, in Decision Number: 2939/Pdt.G/2023, a verdict of divorce by verstek is considered valid if the stipulated procedures have been followed correctly and the party who is required to be present or provide a defence does not do so without a valid reason. Islamic law also establishes principles of justice and protection of individual rights, including in the marriage process. Accordingly, the legitimacy of a marriage concluded through a verstek verdict may be contingent upon the interpretation of Islamic schools of thought and the legal principles that are embraced. Likewise, in the context of marriage law in Indonesia, a verstek decision in a verstek divorce case can be recognized as valid if it has fulfilled the requirements stipulated in the law. Thus, to determine whether a verstek decision in a marriage is valid or not, it is necessary to consider the applicable legal context, both in terms of civil law and in terms of Islamic law (fiqh) or the applicable marriage law
Challenges of Parenting in the Digital Era: A Review from the Perspective of Islamic Family Law
Get PDFThis study examines the challenges of child-rearing within Muslim families in the digital era, focusing specifically on the perspective of Islamic family law. The research addresses Muslim parents' complex issues in adapting Islamic family law principles to parenting practices compatible with digital realities. The study aims to identify significant challenges encountered in digital parenting and to propose relevant legal recommendations to support Muslim families. Using a qualitative approach with data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, observations, and focus group discussions, the study involved 30 Muslim families, Islamic scholars, and legal experts. The findings reveal that critical challenges include difficulties in the digital supervision of children, low digital literacy among parents, and value conflicts between Islam and digital culture. The study highlights the need for supportive legal adaptations that preserve Islamic character education within the digital context, helping safeguard children's ethics and morals. Effective strategies include balanced surveillance technology aligning with Islamic values and implementing digital use guidelines. The study's implications emphasize the importance of collaboration among legal experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to establish a responsive legal framework addressing digital challenges and supporting Muslim families in integrating child-rearing with religious teachings
Maqashid Sharia as the Foundation of Religious Moderation and Resilience in Aceh's Border Communities
Get PDFThe implementation of Islamic law in Aceh over the past two decades has not only reflected the enforcement of Sharia but also illustrated the cultural and political dynamics of Acehnese society. As a region rich in customary law traditions and social pluralism, the response of Acehnese communities, particularly in multicultural border areas, to violations of Islamic law and its existence varies widely. Islamic law in Aceh is often interpreted through the lens of political identity and local culture, while the maqashid sharia values, such as the protection of life, property, and security have yet to be fully integrated into daily practices. This study employs an anthropological approach with qualitative methods. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and narrative analysis of the experiences and perspectives of local communities. The study focuses on how communities construct, understand, and respond to Sharia as part of their social lives. The findings reveal that border communities in Aceh perceive Islamic law not only as a religious rule but also as a political identity symbol to reinforce their social standing, including in rejecting the construction of non-Muslim places of worship. However, the study also highlights a gap in understanding and applying maqashid sharia, attributed to limited socialization and cross-cultural dialogue.
