Implementation of the CTL (Contextual, Teaching, and Learning) Learning Model to Instill Religious and Socially Caring Characters in Class IIIA Students at Mojosongo III Elementary School, Surakarta
This study aims to describe the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model in instilling religious and social care character among third-grade students at SD Negeri Mojosongo III Surakarta. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the teacher implemented most CTL syntax, including constructivism, inquiry, questioning, and learning community. However, reflection and authentic assessment components were not fully applied. Religious character was developed through daily prayers, teacher role modeling, and integration of values such as honesty and responsibility. Social care character was fostered through group work, sharing habits, and simple social activities in class. Supporting factors included a strong school culture, teacher commitment, and parental involvement. Constraints included limited teacher understanding of all CTL syntax, restricted instructional time, and lack of contextual learning media. The study concludes that the CTL model is effective in character development when applied contextually, but its success depends on teacher training, institutional support, and collaboration between school and family
The Strategy of Islamic Boarding School-Owned Enterprises in Supporting Economic and Educational Sustainability at the Nurul Jadid Paiton Probolinggo Islamic Boarding School
This study aims to identify the role of BUMP (Pesantren-Owned Enterprises) in supporting the economic independence of Islamic boarding schools, analyze the forms of BUMP’s contribution to the sustainability of education at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Jadid, and examine the management strategies of BUMP in ensuring the sustainability of both the economic and educational aspects of the pesantren. This study employs a naturalistic qualitative approach with phenomenological analysis, supported by the theoretical frameworks of Sustainable Development Theory, Human Capital Theory, and the Triple Bottom Line. These three theories are applied to examine the relationship among the economic, educational, and social dimensions that are integrated within BUMP’s management system. Thus, this research not only evaluates business success from an economic standpoint but also its contribution to the continuity of education. The findings of the study highlight six main strategies in BUMP management: strengthening Sharia-based governance through SOPs and financial report digitalization; business diversification encompassing trade, laundry, agribusiness, and digital platforms; integrating business with education through skill laboratories and student internships; strengthening alumni networks and strategic partnerships; digitizing financial management with Accurate and IPOS Ultimate applications; and developing a grand design for sustainability that synergizes economic, educational, leadership development, and physical infrastructure aspects. These findings affirm that BUMP can serve as a model for pesantren economic independence that is relevant to the challenges of the modern era while maintaining the identity of Islamic values
Political and Public Policy Challenges in Addressing the National Debt Burden and New Tax Policies in Indonesia 2025
2025 will be a crucial phase for Indonesia in maintaining fiscal sustainability amidst the increasing need for development financing and new tax policies, particularly the adjustment of the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate to 12% and the planned implementation of a carbon tax. This situation occurs when the government debt ratio is approaching 40% of GDP, thus creating political challenges as well as demands for effective public policy. This study aims to analyze the political dynamics accompanying the implementation of the new tax policy and public policy strategies in managing the national debt burden sustainably. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive-analytical approach through literature studies, analysis of official documents (the 2025 State Budget, Financial Notes, tax regulations), and interviews with key informants. The results show that the success of fiscal consolidation in 2025 depends on three main factors: (1) the design of a selective VAT policy that takes into account aspects of social justice and purchasing power protection, (2) credible debt management through fiscal rule discipline and fiscal risk transparency, and (3) political legitimacy built through public communication and social compensation. The conclusion of this study confirms that the new tax policy can only be effective if supported by political stability, central-regional coordination, and an inclusive communication strategy. These findings are expected to provide academic and practical input in formulating Indonesia's fiscal policy in the consolidation era
Modernization of Islamic Boarding School Education Institutions According to Azyumardi Azra
Islamic boarding schools have made a significant contribution to efforts to educate the nation's generation. However, in the contemporary era, Islamic boarding schools cannot avoid the influence of modernization, especially with advances in science and technology. Islamic boarding schools are faced with challenges that arise due to changing times and modern life. The ability of Islamic boarding schools to respond to this challenge is a benchmark for the extent to which they can follow the flow of modernization. Azyumardi Azra presents solutions to overcome these problems. For the first issue, he suggested updating management and leadership systems by transforming centralized leadership into collective management. The second problem can be addressed through the contextualization and improvisation of learning methods, even by building new paradigms that adopt emancipatory paradigms. The third problem can be addressed by a similar approach, namely linking the curriculum to the needs of the times. Finally, the fourth problem can be overcome by implementing the legal rule "Al-Mukhafazatu 'ala al-qadim al-ashalih wa al-akhzu bi al-jadid al-ashlah," which means preserving good Islamic values while taking new values that are in accordance with the context of the times, in order to achieve methodological accuracy in enlightening the nation's civilization

The Primacy of Life and Property in Islam and the Boko Haram Version of Jihad in Nigeria
Like many countries, Nigeria faces serious security challenges due to heinous activities of the deadly group known as Boko Haram (lit. Western Education is Prohibited (Haram)). Right from her emergence till date, this militant group has been terrorizing lives and properties of innocent citizens of the country under the guise of Jihad. But, this jihad claim is baseless in the light of the group’s wanton violation of life and property, the two of the five necessary human interests (maqāsid daruriyyah) which the Shari’ah seeks to protect. Therefore, this paper studies the Boko Haram Jihad claim viz-a-viz her wanton violation of life and property which are regarded by the Islamic law as inalienable human rights as underscored in the theory of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah (Objectives of Shari’ah). Relevant materials were consulted in libraries to carry out the research. Inter alia, it becomes clear from the findings that the concept of Jihad is a sacred duty in Islam, but it has been abused by Boko Haram as evident in her unjustifiable violation of life and property of innocent citizens. This is against the principles of the Qur‘an and the Sunnah, which the group always claims to defend. The paper argues that, while Jihad is sanctioned in Islam, it is guided by rules and regulations. In addition, life and property are sacrosanct in Islam and nothing can justify their violation as being perpetrated by Boko Haram in Nigeria. Hence, the group’s jihad claim is far from the truth because her activities contradict the lofty objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharīʿah) which seek to protect life and property etc. The paper recommends that groups and individuals must have proper understanding of Islam in order to propagate it correctly. Otherwise, the religion of peace would be mistaken for violence and terrorism. Also, the government of Nigeria should ensure fair hearing and justice in dealing with any insurgent groups. This is necessary in view of unfortunate extra-judicial killing of the Boko Haram leader which turned out to be a seed of violence in the northern part of the countr
Mulla Sadra's Philosophical Concept
Mulla Sadra named Islamic philosophy as al-Hikmah al-Muta'aliyah. According to him, al-hikmah al-muta'aliyah is knowledge based on intellectual intuition (irfan or isyraqi dzawq), rational proof ('aql or istidlal), and sharia (burhani). Al-Hikmah al-Muta'aliyyah is a synthesis of three styles of thought, namely: theology with a dialectical, polemical pattern (jaddaly), philosophy with a demonstrative pattern (burhany), and theosophy with an illuminationist and gnostic pattern (dzawq). This research uses descriptive analysis methods to explore Mulla Sadra's philosophical thinking. The results of this research reveal that the building of thought that was successfully built by Mulla Sadra through his synthesis of thought had a major influence on the development of philosophy in Persia, India and Iraq. However, the interesting thing is that Sadra brought him into contact with the truth of the Koran and Hadith. The harmonization he carried out resulted in a synthesis, namely integrating it through the three paths of Al-Qur'an (revelation), Burhan (demonstration or intellect), Irfan (spiritual or mystical). Because the three of them are not contradictory in their aim of achieving truth. The depiction of Mulla Sadra's philosophy can be done well by referring to his Ontology, Theology, Physics and Eschatology
