The Relationship Between Frailty and Psychosocial Adjustment in Older Adults with COPD
Objective: Frailty in older adults can manifest through various symptoms; reduced oxygen capacity is one of its prominent indicators. As individuals age, the prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a condition characterized by diminished oxygenation, also tends to increase. COPD and frailty can cause psychosocial adjustment difficulties. The study investigated the relationship between frailty and psychosocial adjustment in older adults with COPD. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted with 137 older patients who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a patient identification form, the Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale-self report (PAIS-SR), and the Edmonton Frail Scale (EFS). Results: Participants had a mean PAIS-SR score of 54.37 +/- 12.91. They had a mean EFS score of 6.79 +/- 3.83. Age and COPD stage affected their median PAIS-SR scores (p<0.05). Age, education, occupation, and hospitalization also affected their EFS scores (p<0.05). There is a negative correlation between frailty and psychosocial adjustment. Moreover, the COPD stage and frailty are associated with psychosocial adjustment. Conclusion: The frailer the older COPD patients are, the lower their psychosocial adjustment. Poor psychosocial adjustment is associated with COPD stages and frailty. Age, education, hospitalization, and psychosocial adjustment are predictors of frailty. Older COPD patients with low education levels, advanced disease stages, and frequent hospitalizations should be assessed for frailty and psychosocial adaptation. Evaluating patients may help us detect frail patients with low adaptation levels. In that way, we can meet patients' monitoring and care needs in the early period
The foreign operation authority of the National Intelligence Agency in the transformation of Turkish foreign policy
Bu çalışma, Türk dış politikasındaki değişim süreçlerini anlamak ve güvenlik stratejileri ile istihbarat faaliyetlerinin uluslararası ilişkilerdeki yerini değerlendirmek adına literatüre önemli katkılar sağlamaktadır.MİT, which plays a critical role in Turkey's national security strategies, was established in 1965, replacing the National Security Service (MEH). Since its inception, MİT has been a key component of both domestic and foreign security policies. In the post-Cold War era, MİT underwent a comprehensive transformation in response to increasing international threats and shifting security dynamics. Particularly after 2002, its operational capacity was enhanced, enabling it to assume a more active role on the international stage. The thesis delves into MİT's historical development, the transformation process after 2002, and the legal basis of its foreign operation authority. In this context, the study analyzes MİT's foreign operations in regions such as Syria, Iraq, and Libya, and evaluates the contributions of these activities to Turkey's regional and international role. MİT's transformation has allowed Turkey to adopt a more proactive and security-oriented approach in foreign policy, using intelligence activities as a strategic tool in areas ranging from counter-terrorism to international crisis management. This study examines the impact of the National Intelligence Organization's (MİT) foreign operation authority on the transformation of Turkish foreign policy. The findings indicate that MİT's foreign operation authority plays a central role in the transformation of Turkish foreign policy and the protection of national interests. This study provides significant contributions to the literature by enhancing the understanding of the transformation processes in Turkish foreign policy and assessing the place of security strategies and intelligence activities in international relations
Tempered fractional version of trapezoid-type inequalities
In this article, trapezoid-type inequalities are proved by means of convex functions according to tempered fractional integral operators. The resulting trapezoid-type inequalities generalize several studies on this subject, including those involving Riemann-Liouville fractional integrals. To obtain these types of inequalities, we utilize the H & ouml;lder and power-mean inequalities. Finally, new results are obtained through specific parameter choices
Thermal design for a communications satellite payload module
Satellite design and manufacturing studies have become crucial due to their exposure to extreme thermal conditions in outer space. Thermal management systems are necessary to maintain acceptable temperatures for equipment on satellites' structural panels. Accurate modeling, simulation, and testing are necessary to handle high-gradient temperature cycles, considering worst-case scenarios. The study aimed to design, model, and simulate a geostationary communication satellite using finite element method-based software, analyzing thermal modeling, and extraterrestrial satellites. The literature on controlling satellite temperature is limited, with most studies on cube and nano satellites. No scholarly work combines geosynchronous satellite thermal modeling with finite element analysis, which is crucial for understanding satellite thermal dynamics and solving structural and thermal problems in satellite design. A heat pipe network and MLI are placed on the panel, ensuring a homogeneous temperature distribution. In the worst-case scenario, a 2.8 m2 radiator area is used to eliminate heat dissipation from equipment. Analytical investigation is conducted to assess heat rejection capabilities of payload panels, followed by creation and implementation of reduced thermal mathematical models using commercial software. The worst hot-case analysis shows all equipment remains below upper-temperature limits, with heat pipes preventing excessive hot areas. The worst cold-case analysis requires a heater power of 480 W, with a 50% duty ratio aiming for 960 W. The FEM analysis reveals a duty ratio of 55% for panel heaters. Finally, the thermal design of the satellite can be used to maintain the equipment within its temperature limits.European Union [101130406]UKRI Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council [EP/Y036662/1]The author(s) disclosed receipt of the following financial support for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article: The last author, Ahmet Selim Dalk & imath;l & imath;cx would like to acknowledge the support from by European Union's Research and Innovation Program Horizon Europe under the Marie Sk1odowska-Curie grant agreement (No. 101130406) and UKRI Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EP/Y036662/1)
Efficiency assessment and ses applicability analysis in energy intensive processes in the chemical industry
The chemical industry ranks among the most energy intensive sectors due to its reliance on high temperature, high pressure processes and continuous operation of complex units. This intensive energy use drives up production costs and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions when fossil fuels are the primary energy source. Consequently, the adoption of renewable energy solutions and the implementation of energy efficiency measures have become both an economic imperative and an environmental necessity for modern chemical plants. An energy audit systematically examines existing consumption points and process streams to identify losses and opportunities for improvement. Complementing this, the energy intensity metric—expressed as energy consumed per unit of product—provides a benchmark for performance tracking and target setting. Time series forecasting, particularly using ARIMA models, leverages historical consumption data to generate reliable projections of future energy needs, thereby supporting strategic planning and budget optimization. Integrating a solar photovoltaic (PV) system offers a pathway to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower long term energy expenditures, and curb the facility's carbon footprint. Recent declines in PV module costs and the availability of government incentives have shortened payback periods and enhanced project viability. In this study, a comprehensive energy audit and energy intensity analysis of a chemical manufacturing plant's five year consumption data are first conducted. Next, ARIMA based forecasts inform the sizing and financial evaluation of a prospective solar PV installation, assessing its technical feasibility and economic benefits

New approaches to corrected Euler-Maclaurin-type inequalities involving Riemann-Liouville fractional integrals for different function classes
This paper investigates several Corrected Euler-Maclaurin-type inequalities for different function classes using Riemann-Liouville fractional integrals. The results, which are derived from special cases of theorems and illustrative examples, are subsequently presented. Furthermore, the authors have developed fractional Corrected Euler-Maclaurin-type inequalities for bounded functions. In addition, the research has acquired fractional Corrected Euler-Maclaurin-type inequalities for Lipschitzian functions. Finally, the study concludes with the derivation of fractional Corrected Euler-Maclaurin-type inequalities for functions of bounded variation
Psychometric evaluation of the birth participation scale for fathers (BPS-F): a methodological study
BackgroundThe participation of fathers in childbirth contributes primarily to the improvement of maternal and infant health and, consequently, to public health. To increase the participation of expectant fathers in childbirth, an appropriate screening tool is needed. This study was conducted to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Birth Participation Scale developed for expectant fathers.MethodsThe research involved a total of 250 expectant fathers who submitted applications to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Polyclinic of a university hospital. After translating the scale into a methodological and cross-sectional investigation, psychometric properties were evaluated. The validity of the scale was assessed by evaluating the content, construct, and face validity. Cronbach's alpha, McDonald's Omega, Spearman-Brown split-half and test-retest reliability coefficients were calculated to determine the item's reliability.ResultsThe average content validity index (CVI) values for relevance, clarity, and simplicity were found to be 0.99 for each. The impact score of the items was 1.5 and above. A factor structure with 17 items, and 3 sub-dimensions was obtained through Exploratory Factor Analysis. The factor loadings of the items ranged between 0.55 and 0.85. The validity of this structure was assessed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis and the model fit indices were acceptable or good fit. The reliability coefficients for Cronbach's alpha, McDonald's Omega, and Spearman-Brown split half were 0.89, 0.92, and 0.81, respectively. Moreover, the test-retest correlation was 0.96.ConclusionsThe Birth Participation Scale for Fathers has a suitable validity and reliability for assessing fathers' participation in birth. It is a simple reporting tool that healthcare professionals in Turkey can easily implement.Napier University's School of Nursing, MidwiferyWe would like to convey our sincere appreciation to every participant who assisted us in conducting this research. Prioritization of Industrial Symbiosis Enablers Using a Hesitant Fuzzy SWARA Approach
Industrial symbiosis (IS), a crucial tool for reducing industrial waste, preventing pollution, and enhancing resource efficiency, is emerging as one of the sustainable approaches. IS is a network structure in which independent industrial enterprises cooperate and use the waste or by-products of one as raw material for the other. This synergistic network structure can help companies reduce costs, boost efficiency, and lessen negative environmental impacts. However, successful IS implementation relies on key enabling factors facilitating collaboration and ensuring mutual benefits among participants. This study focuses on Türkiye, where the development of IS networks holds significant potential due to its industrial diversity and growing emphasis on sustainability. It aims to rank the critical enabling factors in fostering these networks. To achieve this aim, Stepwise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA), a subjective multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) technique that systematically evaluates and ranks criteria based on expert judgments, was employed. This approach was integrated with hesitant fuzzy sets to account for uncertainty and hesitation in expert opinions, ensuring a more robust assessment of the enabling factors. In the present study, a comprehensive literature review and expert opinions were employed to identify 23 sub-enablers falling under five main dimensions. The hesitant fuzzy SWARA method was then applied to calculate their importance weights. The results of the study indicate that the five most critical sub-enablers are, in descending order of importance: "reduction of raw material costs," "interest and support from top management," "reduction of waste disposal costs," "geographical proximity," and "openness to new business ideas.
