The effect of effective communication skills training on the social emotional learning skills of secondary school 7th grade students
Günümüzde çağdaş eğitim anlayışı, bireyin çok yönlü gelişimini merkeze almaktadır. Öğrencilerin yalnızca akademik başarıları ile değil, aynı zamanda sosyal ve duygusal açıdan da desteklenmeleri gerektiği vurgulanmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, bireyin çevresi ile sağlıklı ilişkiler kurabilmesi, duygu ve düşüncelerini ifade edebilmesi, sosyal ortamında iş birliğinde bulunabilmesi önemli beceriler arasında yer almaktadır. Tüm bu yeterliklerin temelinde ise iletişim becerileri bulunmaktadır. Öğrencilerin sosyal duygusal öğrenme becerilerinin geliştirilmesinde iletişim becerilerinin önemli bir nokta olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu kapsamda araştırmanın amacı hazırlanan iletişim becerileri eğitiminin sosyal duygusal öğrenme becerilerine etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Batı Karadeniz Bölgesi'nde bulunan bir ortaokulun 7. sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada ön test-son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Deney grubuna 8 oturum iletişim becerileri eğitimi uygulanmış, kontrol grubuna herhangi bir müdahalede bulunulmamıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak "Sosyal Duygusal Öğrenme Becerileri Ölçeği" ile araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen Yarı Yapılandırılmış Görüşme Formu kullanılmış; karma yöntem yaklaşımı benimsenmiştir. Nicel veriler Mann-Whitney U ve Wilcoxon İşaretli Sıralar Testi ile analiz edilirken, nitel veriler betimsel analiz yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmanın nicel sonuçlarına göre, iletişim becerileri eğitiminin sosyal duygusal öğrenme becerilerinin alt boyutları olan problem çözme becerileri, stresle başa çıkma becerileri, iletişim becerileri ve kendilik değerini arttıran beceriler üzerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir etkisi bulunmamıştır. Ancak nitel veriler, öğrencilerin bu becerilere ilişkin görüşlerinde olumlu yönde değişim yaşandığını ortaya koymuştur. Bu doğrultuda, iletişim becerileri eğitimlerinin daha uzun süreli ve sistematik biçimde uygulanması; sosyal duygusal öğrenme becerilerinin desteklenmesinde nicel ve nitel yöntemlerin birlikte değerlendirilmesi önerilmektedir.Today, the contemporary understanding of education focuses on the multifaceted development of the individual. It is emphasized that students should be supported not only with their academic success but also socially and emotionally. In this context, the ability of the individual to establish healthy relationships with their environment, to express their feelings and thoughts, and to cooperate in their social environment are among the important skills. The basis of all these competencies is communication skills. Communication skills have been seen as an important point in the development of students' social emotional learning skills. In this context, the aim of the research is to examine the effect of the prepared communication skills training on social emotional learning skills. The study group of the research consists of 7th grade students of a secondary school located in the Western Black Sea Region. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test control group was used in the research. Eight sessions of communication skills training were applied to the experimental group, and no intervention was made to the control group. The "Social Emotional Learning Skills Scale" and the Semi-Structured Interview Form developed by the researcher were used as data collection tools; a mixed method approach was adopted. Quantitative data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Tests, while qualitative data were evaluated using descriptive analysis. According to the quantitative results of the study, no statistically significant effect of communication skills training on the sub-dimensions of social emotional learning skills, namely problem-solving skills, stress coping skills, communication skills, and skills that increase self-esteem, was found. However, qualitative data revealed that there was a positive change in students' views on these skills. In this context, it is recommended that communication skills training be implemented more systematically and for a longer period of time; and that quantitative and qualitative methods be evaluated together in supporting social emotional learning skills
Reconfigured single- and double-diode models for improved modelling of solar cells/modules
Proper modeling of PV cells/modules through parameter identification based on the real current-voltage (I-V) data is important for the efficiency of PV systems. Most related works have concentrated on the classical single-diode model (SDM) and double-diode model (DDM) and their parameter extraction by various metaheuristic algorithms. In order to render more accurate and representative modeling, this paper adds a small resistance in series with the diodes in SDM and DDM. The new models are named reconfigured SDM (Reconfig-SDM) and reconfigured DDM (Reconfig-DDM), and they have not been studied so far as we know. A squirrel search algorithm (SSA) is employed to globally find the parameters of the new models. The performance achieved is experimentally tested on both a commercial RTC France solar cell and a CS6P-220P polycrystalline PV module located at D & uuml;zce University in T & uuml;rkiye. A vivid comparison of experimental findings, observation, and analysis clearly demonstrates that the proposed Reconfig-SDM and Reconfig-DDM tuned by the SSA have better capacity and effectiveness for modeling PV devices than some cutting-edge approaches. Enhanced Coati Optimization Algorithm for Static and Dynamic Transmission Network Expansion Planning Problems
The power systems are becoming more and more complex due to the inclusion of new components and increasing load demand. Consequently, it is imperative to incorporate additional generation units and transmission links into the system. Transmission Network Expansion Planning (TNEP) seeks to include generation units and transmission lines into the system at optimal locations and minimal costs. Mathematical techniques are extensively employed to address the problem. Nonetheless, mathematical methods necessitate extensive computation durations. Consequently, novel solution strategies are under investigation. The TNEP problem is characterized by an innovative and effective metaheuristic optimization techniques. This study presents a novel Opposition Based Learning and Fitness Distance Balance based Coati Optimization Algorithm (FDBCOA-OBL) designed to address Static and Dynamic TNEP problems. An extensive experimental investigation was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of the suggested method in addressing the benchmark test suites and the TNEP problem. The FDBCOA-OBL algorithm, utilizing the Elite OBL approach, surpassed all other comparative versions in addressing the benchmark test problems. The Wilcoxon analysis indicates that it lost 6 problems, tied in 110, and won 166 problems. The proposed approach resolved the TNEP problem in 6, 25, and 93-bus test systems. The Static TNEP solution was applied to the 6 and 25 bus test systems, while the Dynamic Multistage TNEP method was utilized in the 93-bus test system. The acquired investment expenses were compared to the research already documented in the literature. The findings indicate that the suggested method demonstrates robust performance
Investigation of the relationships between 50m freestyle swimming speed and reaction time, balance, strength and anthropometric characteristics in 8-12 year old swimmers
Bu çalışmanın amacı, 8-12 yaş (10,57 ±1,21 yıl) arasındaki yüzücülerde 50 metre serbest stil yüzme hızı ile reaksiyon zamanı, denge, kuvvet ve antropometrik özellikler arasındaki ilişkileri incelenmektir. Çalışmanın örneklemi, Düzce ilinde spor kulüplerinde yer alan 35 lisanslı erkek (n: 18) ve kız (n: 17) yüzme sporcusu- öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Katılımcılar, en az 1 senelik yüzme lisansı olan sporculardan seçilmiştir. Antropometrik özellikler için boy, vücut ağırlığı, el-kulaç uzunluğu, oturma yüksekliği ölçümleri alınmıştır. Reaksiyon zamanı için seçmeli görsel reaksiyon zamanı, denge için dinamik denge, kuvvet için el kavrama, patlayıcı kuvvet testleri (yatay ve dikey sıçrama) ve 50 m serbest stil yüzme hızı için su içinden kayarak başlayacak şekilde yüzme testi yapılmıştır. Ölçüm verilerinin analizi için SPSS 25 programı kullanılmıştır, minumum, maksimum, ortalama, standart sapma değerleri ve korelasyon analizleri yapılmıştır. Verilerin normal dağılıp dağılmadığı, Shapiro-Wilk testi ile belirlenmiştir. Veriler normal dağılım gösterdiği için Pearson korelasyon analizi yapılmıştır. Anlamlılık değeri başlangıçta, p0,05) tespit edilmiştir. 50 m serbest stil yüzme hızı ile görsel seçmeli reaksiyon zamanı arasında anlamlı ilişki olmadığı saptanmıştır (p>0.05). 50 m serbest stil yüzme hızı ile çift ayak denge değerleri arasında negatif korelasyon olduğu (r= -,453 ; p= ,006) (p0,05) tespit edilmiştir. 50 m yüzme hızı ile dikey sıçrama (r= -,450 ; p= ,007), sağ el kavrama kuvveti (r= -,340 ; p= ,029) ve sol el kavrama kuvveti değerleri arasında negatif korelasyon (r= -,439 ; p= ,008) (p0.05) bulgulanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, 8-12 yaş grubu yüzücü çocuklarda, bazı antropometrik, motorik özelliklerin ve dinamik denge becerilerinin, serbest stilde 50 m gibi kısa mesafelerde yüzme performansı üzerinde belirleyici rol oynadığı anlaşılmaktadır. Yüzme performansını olumlu etkilemesi nedeniyle bu çalışma sonuçlarının, antrenörlerce dikkate alınarak yetenek seçimi ve antrenman planlamalarında kullanılması önerilmektedir.The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between 50-meter freestyle swimming speed and reaction time, balance, strength and anthropometric characteristics in swimmers aged 8-12 years (10.57 ± 1.21 years). The sample of the study consisted of 35 licensed male (n: 18) and female (n: 17) swimming athletes-students in sports clubs in Düzce province. Participants were selected from athletes with at least 1 year of swimming license. For anthropometric characteristics, height, body weight, hand-arm length, sitting height were measured. Selective visual reaction time for reaction time, dynamic balance for balance, handgrip and explosive strength tests (horizontal and vertical jump) for strength, and 50 m freestyle swimming speed for swimming speed were performed. SPSS 25 program was used for the analysis of the measurement data, minimum, maximum, mean, standard deviation values and correlation analysis were performed. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to determine whether the data were normally distributed. Since the data were normally distributed, Pearson correlation analysis was performed. The significance value was initially accepted as p0,05). There was no significant relationship between 50 m freestyle swimming speed and visual selective reaction time (p>0.05). 50 m freestyle swimming speed had a negative correlation (r= -,453; p= ,006) (p0,05) between single foot (left and right foot) balance values. 50 m swimming speed was negatively correlated with vertical jump (r= -,450 ; p= ,007), right hand grip strength (r= -,340 ; p= ,029) and left hand grip strength (r= -,439 ; p= ,008) (p0.05). In conclusion, it is understood that some anthropometric, motoric characteristics and dynamic balance skills play a determinant role on swimming performance at short distances such as 50 m in freestyle in 8-12 years old children. It is recommended that the results of this study should be taken into consideration by coaches and used in talent selection and training planning due to its positive effect on swimming performance
High efficiency green and red emitting CdSeTe quantum dots: Synthesis and PLQY improvement for optical applications
Obtaining stable QDs with different emission colors and high PLQY values for optoelectronic applications is important. There are currently applied treatment methods to increase the PLQY value and stabilization of QDs. On the other hand, variations in the surface-to-volume ratio associated with changes in QD size indicate that the treatment methods applied must be optimized according to the specific size of the QDs. This study focuses on the optimization of the synthesis and treatment processes of green and red emission CdSeTe QDs with high PLQY for use in optoelectronic devices. Initially, the synthesis processes for green and red emission QDs were optimized according to precursor molar amounts, synthesis time and synthesis temperature. Then, chloride treatment, CdS and ZnS shell coating methods were optimized and applied separately to increase the PLQY values of these QDs. The results showed that the PLQY value increased up to 95.23 % with 30 % CdCl2 treatment by mass for green emitting CdSeTe QDs and up to 96.31 % with 40 % CdCl2 chloride treatment by mass for red emitting QDs. Öğretmen Adaylarının Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma Hedeflerine Yönelik Bilgileri ve Sürdürülebilir Tüketim Davranışlarının İncelenmesi
Tübitak 2209-A 1919B012301894The knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of teachers and pre-service teachers about sustainable development will affect their implementation of sustainable development (SD) education in their classrooms. From this point of view, in this study, pre-service teachers' knowledge of sustainable development goals (SDGs), the sources of this knowledge and their sustainable consumption behaviors (SCBs) were determined as a product of the project supported by Tubitak 2209-A. Survey model was used and data were collected from a total of 1028 pre-service teachers studying in 8 different undergraduate programs at a Faculty of Education. Data collection tools; Sustainable Development Goals Knowledge questions and Sustainable Consumption Behaviors Scale. The data were analyzed using chi-square test of independence and ANOVA. Pre-service teachers' SDGs knowledge levels are low and differs according to gender at low effect size. The knowledge levels of pre-service primary teachers and psychological counseling and guidance teachers are statistically significantly higher than those of pre-service teachers in all other branches. The SDG knowledge scores of pre-service teachers statistically differed between the ones who complete the "Sustainable Development and Education" course and those who not completed, however their consumption behaviors did not differ between them. The SCBs of female pre-service teachers are significantly higher than males in the reuse sub-dimension. A differentiation in the sub-dimensions of pre-service teachers' SCBs is determined according to some of their departments. Based on the findings, it can be suggested that "SD and Education" course should be a must-course in all teacher training programs in order to increase pre-service teachers' knowledge of SDGs and to develop SCBs.Öğretmenlerin ve öğretmen adaylarının sürdürülebilir kalkınma hakkındaki bilgi, tutum ve davranışları, sınıflarında sürdürülebilir kalkınma (SK) eğitimini uygulamalarını etkileyecektir. Tarama modeli kullanılmış ve eğitim fakültesi'nde 8 farklı lisans programında öğrenim gören toplam 1028 öğretmen adayından veri toplanmıştır. Veri toplama araçları; Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma Hedefleri Bilgi Soruları ve Sürdürülebilir Tüketim Davranışları Ölçeğidir. Veriler ki-kare bağımsızlık testi ve ANOVA kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Öğretmen adaylarının SKH bilgi düzeyleri düşük seviyededir ve cinsiyete göre düşük etki büyüklüğünde farklılık göstermektedir. Sınıf öğretmeni adayları ile psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik öğretmen adaylarının SKH bilgi düzeyleri diğer tüm branşlardaki öğretmen adaylarından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde yüksektir. “Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma ve Eğitim” dersini alan öğretmen adaylarının SKH bilgi puanları almayanlardan istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde farklılık göstermiş ancak tüketim davranışları almayanlardan farklılaşmamıştır. Kadın öğretmen adaylarının STD’nin yeniden kullanım alt boyutu ortalamaları erkeklerden anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksektir. Öğretmen adaylarının STD alt boyutlarında bölümlerine göre farklılaşma vardır. Hydroxylated polymeric linolenic acid containing cytocompatible cryogels with antibiofilm activities
Essential oils and their acids can possess various beneficial properties, such as antioxidant, antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial activities. Therefore, we conducted a comprehensive examination of the biological activities of HEMA-based cryogels containing hydroxylated polymeric linolenic acid (PLinoOH). First, linolenic acid underwent autoxidation for three months to yield macroperoxide linolenic acid. This macro peroxide fatty acid, distinguished by its peroxide, epoxide, and hydroperoxide functional groups, reacted with diethanolamine to synthesize hydroxylated polymeric linolenic acid (PLinoOH). The resulting PLinoOH was then utilized to prepare the HEMA-based cryogel series. These cryogels were physically and chemically characterized. The cytocompatibility of the cryogel series and its potential genotoxic effects on cellular DNA were examined using human embryonic kidney cells. The antifungal and antibacterial effects of the cryogel series were evaluated against Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast and Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterial strains. Additionally, total sugar, uronic acid, and protein analyses were performed to understand their effects on the exopolysaccharide substance in the biofilm structure. The fabricated cryogels exhibited considerable antibiofilm effects along with their remarkable biocompatibility. They showed varying effects were observed on the structure of exopolysaccharide substance according to the bacterial species and cell wall structure. Investigation of service quality expectations of parents of children participating in sports club activities according to various demographic variables
Futbol on birer oyuncudan oluşan iki takım arasında kendine özgü bir topla oynanan takım sporudur. 21. Yüzyıl itibarıyla, 200'ün üzerinde ülkede 250 milyonu aşkın oyuncu tarafından oynanmakta olup, dünyadaki en popüler spor dalıdır. Futbol okulları çocukları futbola alıştırmak ve çocukları futbola yetiştirmek amacıyla kurulmuş sportif kuruluşlardır. Bu çalışmada, İnegöl spor kulübünün futbol faaliyetlerine katılan çocukların velilerinin hizmet kalitesi beklentilerinin çeşitli demografik değişkenlere göre incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada çıkacak olan sonuçlara göre İnegöl spor Kulübü'nün gelecekteki stratejilerine öngörü sağlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden betimsel tarama modeli kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmada, amaçsal örnekleme yöntemine göre belirlenen Bursa İl'inin İnegöl İlçesi'nde bulunan İnegöl spor Kulübü'nün Futbol Okuluna giden çocukların velileri çalışma grubu olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada verilerin analizinde SPSS istatistik paket programı kullanılmıştır. Anket tekniği yöntemiyle 203 katılımcıdan veri toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizlere hazır hale getirilmesi için kayıp değerler ve uç değerler incelenmiş, Skewness ve Kurtosis değerlerine bakılarak parametrik testlerin uygulanmasına karar verilmiş olup betimleyici istatistikler yapılmıştır, ikili karşılaştırmalarda t-testi ve çoklu karşılaştırmalarda One-Way Anova/Turkey analizlerine yer verilmiştir. Araştırma ölçeklerinin güvenilirliği Cronbach Alfa iç tutarlılık katsayısı hesaplanarak incelenmiştir. Cronbach Alfa (α) değerleri, 0,60 ≤ α < 0,80 arasında ise oldukça güvenilir, 0,80 ≤ α < 1,00 arasında ise yüksek derecede güvenilir olarak kabul edilmiştir. Çalışmadaki çıkan sonuçta ise 0,93 ile yüksek derecede güvenilir olarak elde edilmiştir.Football is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players with a distinctive ball. As of the 21st century, it is played by more than 250 million players in over 200 countries and is the most popular sport in the world. Football schools are sportive organizations established to accustom children to football and to train children for football. In this study, it is aimed to examine the service quality expectations of the parents of children participating in the football activities of Inegol Sports Club according to various demographics variables. According to the results of the research, it aims to provide insight into the future strategies of Inegol Sports Club. The study was conducted using descriptive survey model from qualitative research methods. In the study, the parents of the children attending the football school of Inegol Sports Club in Inegol District of Bursa Province, determined according to the purposive sampling method, were determined as the study group. SPSS statistical package program was used to analyze the data in the study. Data was collected from 203 participants with the questionnaire technique. To make the date ready for analysis, missing values were examined, it was decided to apply parametric tests by looking at Skewness and Kurtosis values, descriptive statistics were made, t-test was used in multiple comparisons. The reliability of the research scales was examined by calculating Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency coefficient. Cronbach's Alpha (α) values are considered highly reliable if they are between 0.60 ≤ α < 0.80 and highly reliable if they are between 0.80 ≤ α < 1.00. Hydro-Hegemony, Counter-Hegemony and Neoclassical Realism on the Nile Basin: An Analysis of Egypt’s Response to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD)
The Framework of Hydro-Hegemony (FHH) has been applied several times to transboundary water disputes. Since it defines Egypt as a hegemon and Ethiopia as a counter-hegemon, many studies have focused on the hegemonic and counter-hegemonic activities in the Nile Basin. However, this article argues that Egypt has also deployed counter-hegemonic tactics to deal with the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) from Neoclassical Realist perspective. In this context, it questions why and how Egypt has deployed hegemonic and counter-hegemonic tactics to respond to the GERD through process-tracing and utilising primary and secondary sources such as official statements, books, articles and journals. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
Examination of concept maps studies in terms of bibliometric features
Concept maps are visuals that present the relationships between concepts on a hierarchical level. This hierarchical order is expected to be more easily adopted by learners. The aim of this study is to systematically analyze the studies on concept maps in Web of Science (WoS). For this purpose, bibliometric characteristics such as type of publication, language of publication, most cited publications, keywords, productive institutions and countries were analyzed for studies on concept maps between 1979 and 2025. The descriptive design of the quantitative method was used in the study. Map networks were created with the VOSviewer program from the data compiled with the keyword concept maps in the WoS database. The results of the research show that concept maps are a powerful tool to increase knowledge retention and transfer in learning processes. Another result obtained from concept maps research is that linguistic and cultural influences have an expanding or limiting effect on scientific studies
