    Güngör Dilmen’in Kurban Oyununun Kurgusal Yapısı

    Kurban is a work of rebellion against tradition and authority based on mythological and religious elements. Written by Güngör Dilmen in 1967, Kurban reinterprets the Medea story as a modern tragedy by adding Anatolian traditions. Bearing the characteristics of ancient Greek tragedy, Kurban combines the local with the universal. It tells the story of Zehra's rebellion in a male-dominated society and her tragic end. Zehra's struggle is not an individual one, but a universal one in which the conscience of society is questioned. In the village, where social justice and equality do not exist, Zehra is expected to accept her husband Mahmut's imposition of a woman as a wife. Women have been forced to submit to the tradition of kuma for thousands of years before. Therefore, what happened to Zehra is not the first time and will not be the last. Zehra's rebellion is not approved by anyone, including the women in the village. Although Zehra thinks that she will get support from the people around her, especially women, Zehra is alone in her struggle. Even though the other women are unhappy with this tradition, they have no choice but to accept it and advise Zehra to submit to it. With the religious stories, dreams and narratives used, Zehra's dramatic situation, her helplessness is put in the centre and the character experiences her tragic fate that cannot be changed.Kurban, mitolojik, dinî öğelerle kurulu töreye, otoriteye bir başkaldırı eseridir.     Innovative CuLaSe2 and ZnCuLaSe2 quantum dots: advancing quantum dot sensitized solar cell applications

    The utilisation of quantum dots (QDs) as promising materials for next-generation photovoltaics is a recent development. The optical properties of QDs can undergo tuning, and they enhance energy conversion efficiencies. In this study, CuLaSe2 and Zn-doped CuLaSe2 (ZnCuLaSe2) QDs, specifically tailored for quantum dot-sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs). These QDs, which are environmentally friendly as they are free of toxic Cd and Pb elements, exhibit adjustable energy band gaps and improved photoluminescence quantum yields. The incorporation of Zn into CuLaSe2 QDs led to a significant blue shift in optical properties and enhanced photovoltaic performance. The highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) achieved was 2.52% for ZnCuLaSe2 QDs, compared to 1.94% for CuLaSe2 QDs. This improvement is attributed to Zn doping, which enhances charge separation, suppresses surface trap states, and facilitates better electron transfer by modifying the energy band alignment. The synthesis methods have been developed in such a way that they are scalable, and are also compatible with low-cost, eco-friendly production processes; this underscores their feasibility for industrial applications.     On-board hydrogen-rich syngas production via waste heat recovery from compression-ignition engines: maximizing hydrogen content with novel multi-objective algorithms

    A significant portion of fuel energy in internal combustion engines is lost as waste heat, yet limited efforts have been made to recover it effectively. This research explores the utilization of exhaust heat from a diesel engine to produce H2-rich syngas through the methanol-steam reforming (MSR) process. The engine operates at varying loads (15, 30, 45, and 60 Nm) while maintaining a constant speed of 2000 rpm. Exhaust heat is redirected to an MSR reactor, where the methanol-to-water (MtW) molar ratio is adjusted (0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2). Results reveal that the highest hydrogen content in syngas (70.3 %) is achieved at an engine load of 30 Nm and an MtW ratio of 1. To further optimize hydrogen production, three novel algorithms (DSC-MOPSO, MOSPO, and MOGWO) are applied to key operation parameters.     Evaluation of scout leaders' tendency to teamwork in search and rescue operations

    Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye izcilik federasyonu arama kurtarma ve insani yardım enstitüsü üyesi izci liderlerinin arama kurtarma ve insani yardım faaliyetlerinde gösterdikleri ekip çalışmasına yatkınlığını incelemektir. Bununla birlikte izci liderlerinin arama kurtarma ve insani yardım çalışmalarında ekip çalışmalarına yatkınlıklarının cinsiyet, yaş aralığı, medeni durum, eğitim durumu, liderlik branşı, liderlik yılı, operasyon sayısı ve operasyon yılı değişkenlerin etkileri incelenmiştir. Araştırmada ekip çalışmasına yatkınlık ölçeği ve demografik bilgi formu kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırmanın örneklem grubu arama kurtarma ve insani yardım faaliyetlerine katılım göstermiş 252 izci liderinden oluşmaktadır. Yapılan araştırmada verilerin incelenmesi ve analiz işlemlerinde istatistik programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada genel olarak izci liderlerinin ekip çalışması, sorumluluk, problem çözme, liderlik faktör boyutları ortalama olarak yüksek gözlemlenmiştir.The purpose of this study is to examine the teamwork tendency of scout leaders who are members of the Search and Rescue and Humanitarian Aid Institute of the Turkish Scout Federation in search and rescue and humanitarian aid activities. In addition, the effects of variables such as gender, age range, marital status, education level, leadership branch, leadership year, number of operations and year of operations on the teamwork tendency of scout leaders in search and rescue and humanitarian aid activities were examined. The teamwork tendency scale and demographic information form were used in the study. The sample group of this study consists of 252 scout leaders who participated in search and rescue and humanitarian aid activities. In the study, a statistical program was used in the examination and analysis of the data. In the study, it was generally observed that the teamwork, responsibility, problem solving and leadership factor dimensions of scout leaders were high on average

    MOPDO: a multi-objective prairie dog optimizer for engineering design problems

    This research introduces a novel multi-objective version of the recently proposed prairie dog optimizer, the multi-objective prairie dog optimizer (MOPDO). Inspired by the foraging and burrowing activities of prairie dogs, which entail search exploration and particular responses to distinctive alarms for exploitation, MOPDO is proposed. This is a Pareto dominance-based approach to a modified and enhanced version of its single objective counterpart. MOPDO is able to deal with multiple objectives, explore, and exploit promising regions in the optimization landscape, and identify non-dominated solutions, providing decision makers with valuable trade-off choices. To demonstrate its practical applicability, MOPDO is applied to tackle five challenging structural design problems, each characterized by two conflicting objectives: two objectives, minimizing structure weight and minimizing maximum nodal displacement. The algorithm is compared against two other state-of-the-art multi-objective algorithms and rigorous evaluation is conducted using Hypervolume testing. The results show that MOPDO performs better than the comparison algorithms and is able to find a diverse set of non-dominated solutions. Statistical analysis of the experimental results using Friedman's rank test is conducted to further investigate the experimental results. MOPDO's solutions and convergence behaviour show that MOPDO is a very efficient method to solve complex design problems and is superior to the existing multi-objective algorithms in terms of effectiveness and efficiency

    Beyond pelvic pathology: retinal microvascular rarefaction as a systemic marker in endometriosis

    Objective This study aimed to quantitatively assess retinal microvascular alterations in women with pelvic endometriosis using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA), and to explore whether these subclinical findings may reflect early signs of systemic microvascular alterations in this population. Methods In this retrospective cross-sectional study, 100 eyes were analyzed-50 from women with laparoscopically or ultrasonographically confirmed pelvic endometriosis and 50 from age-matched healthy female controls. All participants underwent comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and macular OCTA imaging using the Heidelberg Spectralis system. Quantitative parameters, including vessel area density (VAD), foveal avascular zone (FAZ) metrics (area, perimeter, circularity), and FD-300 values, were extracted from the superficial and deep capillary plexuses using the OCTAVA software. Segmental parafoveal VAD values (nasal, temporal, superior, and inferior) were also assessed. Axial length measurements and endometriosis staging were not available in this retrospective dataset. Hormonal therapy use was not systematically documented. Results Compared to healthy controls, women with endometriosis demonstrated significantly lower total and parafoveal VAD and FD-300 values in both retinal plexuses (p < 0.05 for all). FAZ perimeter showed a modest but statistically significant difference, whereas FAZ area and circularity index remained comparable between groups. No participant in either group exhibited clinically visible retinal pathology. These alterations occurred despite preserved visual acuity and in the absence of systemic comorbidities known to affect microcirculation. Conclusion Although causality cannot be inferred from this cross-sectional design, our findings indicate that pelvic endometriosis is associated with region-specific subclinical reductions in retinal capillary perfusion, particularly within the foveal and parafoveal regions. OCTA-derived metrics, especially FD-300 and parafoveal VAD, may offer insight into microvascular integrity in this patient group. These results support further investigation into the systemic vascular aspects of endometriosis and highlight the potential utility of retinal imaging in exploring such associations

    Can the Fluctuation Observed in the Endotracheal Tube with Compression Applied to the Epigastric Region be Used as a Confirmation Method for Endotracheal Intubation?

    Background: The traditional methods are mostly used to detect tracheal localization and to exclude esophageal localization. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the usefulness of epigastric manual compression in the confirmation of esophageal placement of the tube. Methods: Out-of-hospital ETE was performed by experienced paramedics working in the emergency ambulance service, while ETE in the emergency department was performed by emergency medicine residents or emergency medicine specialists with at least 2 years of emergency department experience. Epigastric compression was performed by applying pressure to the epigastric region at least three times (in 5 sec) with the volar side of the intubated patient while the patient was ventilated with a balloon-valved mask. Immediately after ETI was performed, Ultrasonography (USG) was performed as the gold standard confirmation method. If a double path sign was observed and the pleural sliding motion was not seen, it was considered unsuccessful. Results: A total of 78 patients were included in the study (an equal number of successful and unsuccessful ETE applications). Approximately 59% (n=46) of the patients were female, median age was 73 years (64-80), and 22(28.2%) patients were intubated due to traumatic etiology. The specificity and sensitivity of epigastric fluctuation for esophageal intubations were 83.33% and 60%, respectively. The positive predictive value was 92.31%, and the negative predictive value was 38.46%. Epigastric auscultation airflow sound had a specificity of 86.96% and a sensitivity of 65.45% for esophageal intubation. Conclusion: Although the fluctuation that occurs in the tube with epigastric compression is not as sensitive and specific as USG, it is a better method than lung auscultation. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

    The Effects of Social Risk Conditions on Pediatric Type 1 Diabetes in Terms of Bibliometric Analysis

    Objective: This study aims to deeply investigate the literature about effects of deprivation, poverty, inequality, low socioeconomic conditions, and vulnerability factors on pediatric type 1 diabetes using bibliometric analysis methods. Method: The Web of Science database was searched using keywords. The titles and abstracts of the obtained publications were reviewed by a pediatric endocrinologist regarding their relevance to the intended subject and subjected to a second screening. Performance, co-citation, and co-occurrence analyses were applied to the publications that passed the screening. The analyses used R-based Bibliometrix software, Python, and Microsoft Excel. Results: Initially, 469 articles were obtained, and after screening, 284 articles were found relevant to the researched subject. The co-citation analysis resulted in three main themes: (1) Management and Clinical Outcomes of Type 1 Diabetes, (2) Deprivation and Socioeconomic Determinants Related to Type 1 Diabetes, and (3) Cumulative Effects of Socioeconomic and Cultural Factors on the Management and Outcomes of Type 1 Diabetes. Following the co-occurrence analyses, thematic areas such as Diabetes in Children/Adolescent Populations, Epidemiological Dimensions of Diabetes, Diabetes and Quality of Life, Technological and Insured Solutions Related to Diabetes, Pediatric Health and Diabetes, Insulin Application and Glucose Monitoring Strategies, and The Role of Health Policies in Diabetes Management were identified. Conclusions: These findings highlight health policymakers' need to develop more effective and inclusive strategies for socio-economically disadvantaged groups. Moreover, this study provides important data to explore how much emphasis researchers have placed on social determinants of health. This might serve as a basis for understanding how diabetes management and outcomes interact with socioeconomic and cultural factors. Thus, it will also serve as a foundation for awareness and method at the healthcare level

    Immersive insights: A qualitative systematic review and thematic synthesis of views, experiences, health and wellbeing of students and educators using virtual reality in nursing and midwifery education

    Background and objectives: As healthcare evolves with technology, the demand for a more skilled nursing and midwifery workforce has increased, making traditional learning alone insufficient. This has driven the adoption of virtual reality (VR) based simulation learning. While VR's effectiveness has been reviewed, student and educator experiences and well-being remain underexplored. This review examined the perspectives of nursing and midwifery students and educators using immersive VR, and its impact on health and well-being. Methods: A qualitative systematic review was conducted searching across seven databases, CINAHL, Embase, Education Resources Information Centre, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Web of Science Core Collection, from January 2001 to March 2024. Qualitative evidence on midwifery and nursing students and educators using immersive VR, including head-mounted displays, were included. An adapted Critical Appraisal Skills Programme tool was used to assess study quality. Themes were developed using thematic synthesis. Findings: Forty-five studies from 14 countries were synthesised. VR topics covered skills, competencies, knowledge acquisition, and professional values. Seven analytical themes emerged: impact on health and well-being, constraints to VR use, unique selling points of VR, enhanced productivity in teaching and learning, perceptions of realism in VR, professional development and attitude shifts, and future considerations for VR use. Conclusion: While VR provides significant benefits in nursing and midwifery education, its full integration is hindered by practical challenges, and concerns about health and well-being. Effective adoption requires dedicated educator support, student collaboration in content development, clear guidelines, increased institutional investment, and balanced use alongside traditional simulations. Future research should investigate learner and educator perspectives longitudinally to maximise VR's educational potential
