What if sense of place is already strong? An in-depth investigation in an award-winning American neighbourhood
This study investigates the sense of place (SoP) as a function of spatial characteristics of Buffalo, New York's Elmwood Village, an award-winning American neighbourhood for its perceived strong SoP. The primary aim is to provide empirical proof of this claimed strength of the neighbourhood's SoP at the building, street and neighbourhood scales and to offer a multi-dimensional understanding of SoP by investigating its four sub-indicators, namely place attachment, place identity, place dependence and nature bonding. By studying the perceptual dynamics with a survey method, place identity and place attachment were identified as the most important determinants of SoP at the neighbourhood scale, while place identity and place dependence took the lead at smaller scales. The study of spatial dynamics showed that SoP can be improved to varied degrees for each of the four sub-indicators based on variances in building and street characteristics. For instance, residing in single-family houses or houses with three-and-more bedrooms may result in higher SoP; or place identity may be affected by the open sky coverage or vegetation coverage, etc. Elmwood Village has demonstrated the power of SoP at all scales, and the neighbourhood itself undoubtedly holds a special place in the hearts of its residents. Overall, planners and designers should concentrate on which spatial qualities and scales should be prioritised in future improvement plans to maintain and/or build SoP.Fulbright Program; Turkish Fulbright Commission (Fulbright Grant) [FY-2021-TR-PD-04]This research was conducted with the financial support of Fulbright Program and the Turkish Fulbright Commission (Fulbright Grant for 12 months, Grant Number: FY-2021-TR-PD-04). Evaluation of the Obesity and Depression in Hypertensive Patients
Investigation on structural, optical, thermal, and dielectric properties of cellulose propionate/styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer/molybdenum nanocomposite prepared by pulsed laser ablation
Polymer nanocomposite films of cellulose propionate/styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer/molybdenum (CP/ SMAC/Mo) were fabricated by pulsed laser ablation of Mo in the polymer solution for 10, 20, and 30 min. The films were then characterized by various analytical methods. X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed that the addition of Mo to CP/SMAC removed the crystalline peaks of Mo without changing the amorphous nature of the copolymer. According to the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) patterns, Mo atoms were trapped in the amorphous polymer stacks. The energy -dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectrum features C, O, and Mo. FTIR confirmed the embedding of Mo in the polymers. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) were carried out on the samples. The pristine polymer film exhibited a band gap energy of 2.9 eV, which decreased to 2.05 eV because of the loading of the Mo nanoparticles. The intensity of the photoluminescence (PL) peak of the films increases with ablation time such that the absorption intensity of the film at a lambda max of 426 nm increases by trifold during the 30 min of irradiation, which is consequently due to the increased amount of Mo in the nanostructure. The incorporation of Mo in the polymer matrix enhances the dielectric constant ( epsilon') (6.28 -18.13) and ac conductivity ( sigma ac ) (3.19 x 10 - 5 -1.12 x 10 -4 S/cm) of the polymer with negligible dielectric loss. The results suggest possible technological utilization of these materials in such applications as supercapacitors, light -emitting diodes, and organic optoelectronic devices, among others
On generalized Milne type inequalities for new conformable fractional integrals
In this study, we first obtained a new identity for differentiable convex functions with the help of new conformable fractional integrals. Then, using this identity, we proved new Milne-type inequalities for new conformable fractional integrals. In the proofs, we used convexity, Ho center dot lder's inequality and mean power inequality, respectively. In other chapters, we have presented new inequalities for bounded functions, Lipschitzian Functions and functions of bounded variation. The findings of this article are reduced to previously established results in specific cases.Ordu University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit (BAP) [B-2212]This research is supported by Ordu University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit (BAP) , Project Number: B-2212
Effects of Naphthoquinones from the Roots of Onosma Armeniacum Klokov on Wound Healing
In Turkish folk medicine, the roots of Onosma armeniacum Klokov are used to heal wounds, burns, hemorrhoids, hoarseness, dyspnea, stomach ulcers, and abdominal aches. The objective was to evaluate the plant's ethnopharmacological applications using in vivo pharmacological experimental models. In vivo linear incision and circular excision the wound models were used to assess the wound healing activity along with histopathological investigation. The active component(s) were isolated and identified after being exposed to several chromatographic separation procedures on the primary extract. The n-hexane-dichloromethane mixture extract was subjected to chromatographic separation after the wound-healing activity was confirmed. Deoxyshikonin (1), beta,beta-dimethylacrylshikonin (2), alpha-methyl-n-butylshikonin (3), isovalerylshikonin (4), acetylshikonin (5), beta-hydroxyisovalerylshikonin (6), and 5,8-O-dimethylacetylshikonin (7) were identified as the structures of the isolated compounds. The efficacy of O. armeniacum to heal wounds was investigated in this study. Shikonin derivatives were identified as the primary active components of the roots by bioassay-guided fractionation and isolation procedures
Retrospective study on suicide attempts among psychiatric emergencies admitted to the emergency department of a Regional hospital in Turkey
IntroductionThe aim of this study was to determine the sociodemographic characteristics of psychiatric emergencies presenting to emergency departments (ED), the provisional diagnoses and reasons for consultation by emergency physicians, and to determine the rate of suicide attempts among patients presenting to emergency departments for psychiatric emergencies.MethodsThe records of all patients aged 18 years and older admitted to the emergency department of the Department of Emergency Medicine, a tertiary hospital, with either a pre-existing psychiatric diagnosis or a new psychiatric provisional diagnosis made by emergency physicians between January 2020 and December 2023 were reviewed.ResultsAccording to the data obtained in the study, it was determined that the most common provisional diagnoses made by emergency physicians in psychiatric emergencies were suicide attempts (41.88%), agitation (21.94%), schizophrenia (8.44%), psychosis (7.91%) and manic attack (6.54%). It was found that 49.3% of psychiatric emergencies resulted in discharge and 25.5% resulted in hospitalisation. Among the provisional diagnoses, depression, mutism and sleep disorders were most commonly associated with refusal of treatment, while depression and suicide were the most common reasons for hospitalisation. Among psychiatric emergency patients who attempted suicide, medication, sharp objects and chemicals were the most common substances ingested.DiscussionIn this study, it was determined that a great portion of the emergency psychiatric cases admitted to the emergency department consisted of patients who attempted suicide. However, due to the crowdedness and fast pace of emergency departments, it is understood that in psychiatric emergencies, epidemiological profile data are missing in the files of the cases and detailed medical history cannot be obtained from the patients We think that recording better data of patient who admitted a psychiatric condition to the emergency department will provide better information about the patients in future visits and improve the care to be provided. Psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses recommend the implementation of emergency department-based rehabilitation programs for these patients. Psychiatric emergencies presenting to emergency departments should not be overlooked in terms of suicide risk.Psychiatric emergencies who have attempted suicide should be closely followed at frequent intervals.Emergency department staff should be educated about psychiatric emergencies and suicide risk.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK)Open access funding provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK). Süleyman Fehim Efendi divans the concordance and functional glossary
Anahtar Sözcükler: Klasik Türk edebiyatı, Süleymân Fehîm, Bağlamlı Dizin, İşlevsel Sözlük, TEBDİZ.19th century Turkish literature is a period where old and new are intertwined. Although old literature is defended by some poets in this century, it is seen that Classical Turkish literature is gradually replaced by new literature. While writing their poems, the poets of this period both followed the tradition and adopted some innovations brought about by the changing mentality. Especially proverbs and idioms bearing the traces of daily life are frequently used in poems. Süleyman Fehim was one of the successful poets who lived in the 19th century and defended old literature and practiced his art in this field. The subject of this study is the preparation of Süleyman Efendi Divans the Concordance and Functional Glossary. The study consists of 3 parts. In the first part, Süleyman Fehim Efendi's life, works and literary personality are mentioned. In the second part, the language and form features of Divan are examined. In the third and last chapter, the emotions that come to the fore in the poems and some of the people mentioned in the poems are emphasized. The study was prepared within the scope of the project of TEBDİZ, also known as Concordance and Functional Glossary of Turkish Literature, which is a comprehensive dictionary work that solves the language problem in Turkish Literature and provides great convenience to academic studies. In this way, the dictionary of the work was created. Keywords: Clasiccal Turkish Literature, Süleyman Fehim, Concordance, Functional Dictionary, TEBDİZ
Modern Türk Romanında Mitlerin Rolü: Deniz Gezgin’in Ahraz’ı
Integrating space syntax and system dynamics for understanding and managing change in rural housing morphology: a case study of traditional village houses in Düzce, Türkiye
This study analyses the changes in rural dwellings influenced by social and cultural evolution. The evolution of rural dwellings is associated with changes in living standards and attitudes, resulting in a transformation into units that focus on aesthetics and functionality rather than just shelter. The fieldwork in D & uuml;zce Province, Turkey, was supported by questionnaires, oral history interviews, satellite images, and photographs. The analysis of spatial change in rural houses was conducted using space syntax analysis and system dynamics analysis. The study aims to examine physical changes in rural dwellings, evaluate 'spatial change' through interactive application of the concepts of 'spatial analysis' and 'complex system analysis', preserve the authenticity and continuity of rural dwellings against change to improve the quality of life, and propose intervention strategies and scenarios for addressing changing problems. The findings indicate that traditional houses can be sustained and at the same time the authenticity of the dwelling can be preserved in its spatial context. This study is significant for comprehending the evolutionary change in rural housing and integrating it into planning processes.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK)Open access funding provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK). Heightened Serum Mitochondrial Biomarkers; FGF21 and NOS in Pediatric Anemia and a Negative Correlation between GDF15 and Serum Ferritin
Objective: Mitochondrial dysfunction is closely linked to chronic disorders. This study aims to explore the correlation between pediatric anemia and mitochondrial markers, specifically fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), growth/differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15), and nitric oxide synthase (eNOS). Method: This study included 66 children, with 34 diagnosed with anemia and 32 in the healthy control group. Statistically significant biomarkers were determined through cutoff levels. Results: Among the participants, 34 children were classified as anemic, while 32 were categorized as healthy. The study revealed that FGF21 levels >= 0.745 pg/mL and eNOS levels >= 1.265 mu g/mL predicted anemia. Hemoglobin levels exhibited a negative correlation with FGF21 (r = -0.381; p = 0.002) and eNOS levels (r = -0.462; p < 0.001). Furthermore, a significant negative correlation was observed between GDF-15 and ferritin (r = -0.311; p = 0.019), while eNOS levels correlated positively with folate (r = 0.313; p = 0.019). Conclusions: Anemia induced elevated mitochondrial biomarkers; FGF21 and eNOS levels. The findings suggest that the long-term ramifications of anemia in childhood may be associated with mitochondrial dysfunction
