NAVIGATING CRISIS: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF GOLD JEWELRY ARTISANS’ STRATEGIES IN PESAYANGAN VILLAGE, TEGAL REGENCY, DURING THE 1998 AND 2020 CRISES: Bertahan di Tengah krisis: komparasi strategi perajin perhiasan emas di Desa Pesayangan Kabupaten Tegal pada 1998 dan 2020
The research aims to analyze how these crises transformed the traditional gold jewelry industry and affected craftsmen's livelihoods, social structures, and cultural practices. Using qualitative methodology with history approaches, data was collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal that both crises forced craftsmen to diversify their occupations, becoming gold brokers, traders, farmers, and laborers. The economic pressures weakened traditional solidarity systems, transformed gender roles with women taking more active economic roles, and reduced younger generation interest in continuing the craft tradition. The study contributes new insights into crisis resilience strategies in traditional industries and demonstrates how economic shocks create lasting social transformations. The research highlights the vulnerability of traditional crafts to external economic pressures and the adaptive mechanisms communities develop to survive.

The Use of English as a Lingua Franca in Business Communication: A Case Study of Applied Foreign Language Students
English as lingua franca, the main focus is on achieving mutual understanding rather than using perfect grammar or sounding like a native speaker. However, students often face challenges in speaking fluently due to different accents, proficiency levels, and cultural references, which can lead to misunderstandings and communication disruption. Such strategies help speakers maintain politeness, ensure clarity, and improve efficiency in their interactions. In professional contexts, these three strategies are important to support smooth and successful communication between individuals from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. This study aimed to fill the gap by focusing on the real experiences during internship of Applied Foreign Language students involved in business communication using English as a lingua franca. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research found that students employed various communication strategies to manage language gaps. The use of politeness, clarity, and efficiency strategies helped to improving their confidence, enhancing their professional self-respect, and encouraging more active participation in workplace interactions. In conclusion, these communication strategies are effective tools that help students handle language challenges, maintain clear and respectful communication, and engage more fully in professional settings where English functions as a Lingua Franca

More than just humorous content, memes often carry embedded messages involving social critique, cultural expressions, and political undertones. This study aims to examine the linguistic styles employed in Indonesian-language memes and how these styles illustrate aspects of pop culture within Generation Z. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied using stylistic and semiotic analysis. The data were drawn from popular memes circulating on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. The findings indicate that the most common language styles used include irony, metaphor, hyperbole, and sarcasm, frequently accompanied by slang and code-mixing. These stylistic patterns reflect Generation Z‘s expressive, critical, and highly connected nature within global pop culture. Memes thus serve as tools for cultural articulation and social commentary among young Indonesians
VALUES CONTAINED IN THE BADEWA TRADITIONAL CEREMONY OF THE COMMUNITY IN BERANGAS TIMUR VILLAGE, ALALAK SUB-DISTRICT, BARITO KUALA REGENCY IN 1998–2010: Nilai-Nilai Yang Terkandung Dari Upacara Adat Badewa Masyarakat Desa Berangas Timur Kecamatan Alalak Kabupaten Barito Kuala Tahun 1998–2010
This study explores the Badewa traditional ceremony as an alternative healing practice among the Dayak Bakumpai community in Berangas Timur Village, Alalak Subdistrict, Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan. Thebadewa ritual represents a cultural tradition rooted in spiritual and social values that has long served as a community-based healing method. The research aims to examine the background, existence, and cultural values of the badewa ceremony during the period 1998–2010. A historical method was employed, involving four key stages: heuristics (data collection through interviews, literature studies, and field observations), source criticism (both internal and external), interpretation, and historiography (historical writing). Findings indicate that badewa has existed since before the arrival of Islam in South Kalimantan. In 1998, the practice was reintroduced to Berangas Timur by the family of H. Idrus from Marabahan and began to gain recognition as an alternative healing option. Despite a decline in public interest after 2010, the ritual continues to be preserved through intergenerational transmission and annual large-scale performances. The novelty of this research lies in documenting and analyzing a local healing tradition that integrates spiritual beliefs with community solidarity. The badewa ceremony not only offers alternative medical treatment but also functions as a medium for cultural preservation and identity reinforcement within the Bakumpai community.

Analysis of Income and Welfare of Anchovy Capture and Pond Fishermen in Kumu and Rap-Rap Villages within the Context of Blue Economy Sustainability
This study aims to analyze the income and welfare of anchovy pond farmers in Desa Kumu and Rap-Rap, Minahasa, within the framework of blue economy sustainability.. A quantitative approach with an explanatory descriptive design was employed, combining structured interviews, a validated questionnaire, and direct field observations. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression, with classical assumption tests (normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity) conducted to ensure model validity. The results show that the average net daily income for pond farmers ranges from IDR 100,000 to IDR 135,000, which is sufficient for household needs but subject to fluctuations due to market prices and environmental conditions. The regression model (R² = 0.76, F = 18.24, p < 0.01) reveals that direct market access (β = 0.55, p = 0.000) and working capital (β = 0.42, p = 0.002) have a significant positive impact on income, while operational costs have a significant negative effect (β = -0.38, p = 0.005). In contrast, the use of environmentally friendly technology does not show a significant influence (p = 0.162), primarily due to limited adoption. Most farmers rely on personal savings for capital and sell their produce through local collectors at non-negotiable prices. Although 80% have heard of the blue economy, practical understanding and implementation remain low, hindered by high equipment costs and lack of training.
The discussion highlights that economic empowerment, particularly through improved market access and financial support, is more critical for immediate welfare improvement than environmental technology adoption. The findings extend previous research by integrating socio-economic and sustainability factors into a single analytical model. Based on these results, it is recommended that local authorities facilitate the establishment of marketing cooperatives, provide microfinance programs, and deliver targeted training on eco-friendly aquaculture practices to enhance both income and environmental sustainability
Salatiga as Vacantie Oord: Representations of Colonial Rest Towns in Central Java, Late 19th to Early 20th Century: Salatiga Sebagai Vacantie Oord: Representasi Kota Peristirahatan Kolonial di Jawa Tengah Akhir Abad ke-19 sampai Awal Abad ke-20
This study examines how the city of Salatiga was constructed and represented as a vacantie oord or colonial resort town by the Dutch East Indies government in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Using a historical qualitative approach, this paper seeks to reconstruct Salatiga's strategic role within the network of colonial cities in Central Java by examining aspects of urban planning, administrative regulations, and the colonial narratives that emerged during that period. Primary sources used include official colonial documents such as Staatsblad van Nederlandsch-Indië No. 266 of 1917, city map archives, colonial photographs, and tourist brochures published by the Toeristenverkeer institution. This research also utilizes secondary literature on colonial urban history and tropical spatial studies.
The results of the study show that Salatiga was chosen as a resort town because of its strategic location on the slopes of Mount Merbabu, its cool climate, clean air, and the presence of natural water sources. The colonial government actively developed the urban layout of Salatiga through the construction of villas, hotels, parks, and recreational facilities that supported the city's image as a place of recovery and relaxation for the European elite. This study demonstrates that the image of a vacantie oord not only reflected colonial recreational needs but also served as an instrument of power manifested through the physical forms of the city
