Get PDFThe article tackles an acute problem of present-day sociolinguistics, namely the factor of gender as one of the central characteristics of personality representation and its influence on the strategies and tactics of people’s behavior. The research gives a complex gender analysis of male and female ameliorative speech taking into account structural and pragmatic aspects. Get PDFSome factors which influence the choice of plural markers in German are discussed: frequency of nouns and plural allomorphs, iconicity, cue validity, productivity, and gender specific distribution of plural allomorphs. The evidence comes from studies on a language screening conducted in the state of Hesse in Germany in 2007-2010 with three-, four-, and five-year-old monolingual and multilingual children.Some factors which influence the choice of plural markers in German are discussed: frequency of nouns and plural allomorphs, iconicity, cue validity, productivity, and gender specific distribution of plural allomorphs. Get PDFThe etymology of canid names in Russian is discussed: mangut (raccoon dog), karaganka (karagan), lisa (fox). The name mangut was borrowed from the Buryat language, and the karaganka appeared as a result of a mistake of P.S.Pallas. According to the offered explanation, lisa can be traced back to the ancestral form *ropasa.
