An Analysis of Garner’s Modern English Usage, Fifth Edition: Changes in Present-day English
departmental bulletin pape
Research Trends in Global Citizenship Education - A Narrative Review from the Perspective of Comparative Education
This paper explores the concept of “global citizenship” and its role in education, particularly within the context of UNESCO’s global citizenship education (GCED) initiatives. As the importance of fostering responsible global citizens in the 21st century becomes increasingly recognized, various interpretations of what it means to be a global citizen have emerged. The paper reviews interdisciplinary research on the definition of global citizenship and the nature of education that promotes it, examining perspectives from educational philosophy, ethics, political theory, and international education. Key debates highlighted include the compatibility of global citizenship with national identity, the role of value education systems promoted by UNESCO, and their adaptation in Japan. The paper also categorizes the educational approaches within Japan, including global education, Japanese-style international understanding education, and civics/moral education. Furthermore, it addresses the challenges of integrating UNESCOtype GCED into existing educational frameworks, especially social studies. Future research should focus on the cyclical policy transfer model to understand how global citizenship education can evolve within different national contexts.departmental bulletin pape

On the Use of ICT to Enable Instrumental Expression without Being Constrained by Performance Skills in Elementary School Music Studies
This paper summarizes the situation in which instrumental music expression in elementary music courses becomes inadequate when teachers’ and students’ skills in playing instruments are not high. The background of this situation is the idea that “producing sound” is a prerequisite for “enjoying sound,” and that in order to do so, one must play an instrument. As a result, if one cannot play a musical instrument well, one cannot produce the required sound, nor can one enjoy sound. Therefore, in order to realize instrumental music expression in such situations, this paper focuses on the use of ICT for music as a method to separate “producing sound” from “enjoying sound” and to emphasize the latter by producing the required sound even if one is not proficient in playing the instrument. Apps for music that enable performance to be enjoyed regardless of skill level were surveyed, organized in consideration of musical knowledge and skills and the difficulty level of app operation, and simple examples of their use were presented. In the future, we plan to design more detailed examples of utilization for each unit according to the situation of teachers and children, as well as package them and provide them to in-service teachers for practice.departmental bulletin pape
