International Policy Conversations on Animal Agriculture and Its Impact on Climate Change
The current research intends to focus on animal agriculture, as one of the major contributing factors towards climate change and investigate if and how the current international policy conversations address the same. This examination undertakes the international policy documents resulting out of climate change negotiations, especially at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Conferences of Parties with a focus on the 2022 documents. To support the analysis, first person narratives were drawn out of interviews from people involved in the climate sphere, in and around the policy making aspects of the same.The main intention to take on the study resulted out of the urgency posed by the climate crisis to establish and implement mitigation efforts to tackle the same. To do so, it is essential in nature to critically assess the major causes of climate change and inculcate these into coping strategies from an informed climate literate premise/framework.departmental bulletin pape

日本語ゼロ初級学習者に対する活動授業の取り組み
本稿は、本学日本語・日本文化教育センターにおいて、2023年度春学期に行った「日本語基礎」の授業実践報告である。本学にも英語のみで卒業が可能なコースがあるように、日本語習得を留学の第一目的としない留学生が増加している。「日本語基礎」は、このような日本語習得を第一の目的としないゼロ初級レベルの学習者を対象とし、日本の生活に慣れること、日本語学習意欲を高めることを授業の目的としたクラスである。これまで、初級レベルの授業は文法積み上げ式中心であったが、「日本語基礎」では、新たな試みとして、授業内で活動に特化した「活動授業」の時間を設け、教師以外の日本語母語話者とかかわるビジターセッションを含んだ活動を行った。当初、教師は日本に慣れるために必要なサバイバル・ジャパニーズが学習者にとって必要であると考えていたが、活動授業の中で、学習者は大学内の日常生活でも、寮生活においても日本語を使用しないで生活できることが分かった。また、学期末に実施される授業アンケートの結果、活動の授業で学んだ日本語を実際に使用することが、学習者の日本語学習意欲を高める要素となったことが分かった。departmental bulletin pape

Synthesis of Sr4Nb2O9-N by mechanochemical method and evaluation of their photocatalytic activity
Perovskite-type oxynitrides often exhibit intense colors and have the potential for applications such as visible light responsive photocatalysts. Wu et al. (2016) reported that nitrogen- doped Sr4Nb2O9, which is one of the Perovskite-type oxynitride, demonstrated high oxygen generation efficiency for water splitting under visible light irradiation. However, these oxynitrides have been synthesized by the direct nitridation method which require very severe reaction conditions such as high temperature (900-1100 °C) under ammonia flow for long time (e.g., 10 h). Thus, a safer and more convenient synthesis method is required. As an alternative, the mechanochemical method has attracted attention recently. This method does not need to treat sample at high temperature under ammonia flow for a long time to dope nitrogen, and instead, solid materials such as CO(NH2)2 can be utilized as nitrogen sources. Therefore, in this study, we attempted to develop a more safer and simple synthesis method of nitrogen-doped Sr4Nb2O9 by using the mechanochemical method. The experimental results showed that Sr4Nb2O9-N prepared by the mechanochemical method at a rotation speed of 600 rpm for 1 h showed the highest hydrogen production rate among the various mechanochemical conditions with different rotation speeds and times. The result indicates that the mechanochemical methods is an effective method to synthesize visible light responsive photocatalyst for hydrogen production with much safer and simpler condition compared to the conventional methods.departmental bulletin pape
