    Get PDF
The work attempts to elucidate the idea of religious pluralism of two very important figures in the traditions of Judaism and Islam: Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907-1972) and Nurcholish Madjid (1939-2005). Both figures are interesting to compare for some very important reasons. Although somewhat different, there is much in common between the two, especially in terms of their arguments on the issue of religious pluralism. Their ideas of religious pluralism are based on what the so- called “Depth Theology” (DT) and “Depth Islam” (DI). DT and DI are different from the usual theological dogmas that contain concepts and structures. DT and DI are not literal and superficial forms of religion. Their religious understanding went beyond the literal texts to look for the principles and spirit of religion in appreciating humanity, diversity and peace.  In the context of inter-religious tensions due to suspicion, hatred, and hostility, the depth-theology of Heschel and the depth Islam of Madjid find their significance

The rise of hate narratives along with the new model of communication through the internet has become a new challenge for people in this digital era, especially for youth, the Z generation. This generation, in fact, has an intimacy with the internet. It means that they have more possibility for the influence of hate narratives. This study is aimed exploring the influential factors on Z generation reception to the hate narratives on the internet. Specifically, it proposes to recognize the influential factors on the reception of the students of Madrasah Aliyah Negri (MAN) or State Islamic Senior High School of Tuban (MAN Tuban), East Java. This work is based on two hate narrative issues of Suku, Agama, Ras dan Antargolongan (SARA) or religious, ethnic and intergroup diversity backgrounds, including those of anti-Christianity and those anti-Shiite. This work concludes that the influential factors to the students' reception toward hate narratives come from two categories. First, students are to be the audience of their social systems and backgrounds. The involvement of the students in fundamentalist Muslim groups, in fact, has led them to have exclusive views in seeing others and to feel always under intergroup contestation. Second, the role of the characters of the narratives that influence student’s thought is very important to count. It includes the legitimization through emotion which specifically presents fear and feeling threatened. Those characters have further triggered the students’ empathy to do something beneficial for the sake of the in-group (altruism). In addition, the characters of the narratives have the figures behind them that have influenced students to immediately believe in the narratives they offer only through seeing their profiles on the internet showing their expertise

Character education is education that is highly expected to be an identity of Indonesian education. It is conveyed on every occasion such as seminars, symposiums, discussions, even Nawacita from the current President of Indonesia (Joko Widodo) that Indonesian education should be better. One way to achieve is that education should be character-based and use knowledge as a basic framework. The world of education also teaches religion as a curriculum content, which is oriented towards education. It aims to educate students in order to have moral virtue. However, its effort still has not found maximum results, because religionas a subject matter is still independent and cannot yet be synergized. Even the majority of those taught are only religious jurisprudence (Islamic law) which needs to be formulated with religious study material that discusses ushul from what will become a real practice so that religious practices and rituals do not become ambiguous. This should be done because the end of religious studies must give contributions to "What is done and practiced must be accepted logically for everyone practicing from the teachings of the religion it self"

Da'wah is often synonymous with speaking on the stand by facing the crowd and conveying messages of kindness. But, as the development of mass media, da'wah is not a product that is always delivered on the stand. The mass media is part of the innovation of delivering messages of da'wah. The existence of mass media provides a new atmosphere for the delivery of messages that are more dynamic and flexible, of course, keep up with the times. The use of mass media as a means of contemporary da'wah is increasingly providing great opportunities to all levels of society who want to invite and convey goodness which in this case is preaching activities. A person can convey messages of goodness through writing (qalam), oral and behavior or actions (things) with audio visual recordings on online media and social media such as Instragram, Facebook, You Tube, short films, radio, TV and so on. The number of users of diverse social media is a sign that preaching must evolve into an activity that invites goodness with a more innovative and creative appeal. So that the public or mad'u will choose what media will be used in receiving messages from da'i. Even so, the use of mass media as a means of propaganda is not easy. There are many things that need to be considered by the perpetrators of propaganda so that the propaganda that is done can go well and achieve its goals. Good management is needed in preparing content that is wrapped in an attractive manner so that people are not bored with the way of delivering da'wah and its contents are almost the same. Da'i are required to be extra active, innovative and creative in preaching on social media, clever in choosing the media to be used, and proficient in the use of existing technology and understanding the condition of mad'u as an object of preaching that will receive propaganda messages through response to changing patterns thought and behavior. Keywords: Da'wah, Mass Media, Contemporary, Da'i, Mad'u, Means.
