    The Catholic Gen-Z on Virtual Eucharist Within the Archdiocese of Pontianak

    Since the expiration of the Community Activities Restrictions Enforcement on 13 December 2022, The Catholic Church has also resumed in-person (offline) Eucharistic celebrations. Virtual Eucharistic celebrations continue in select parishes, particularly within the Archdiocese of Pontianak. This study examines how Catholic Generation Z (Gen-Z) individuals— a cohort inherently familiar with the virtual world—respond to virtual versus in-person Eucharistic celebrations. From the perspective of liturgical theology, the Eucharist should ideally be celebrated in person unless circumstances necessitate a virtual format. This study employs a quantitative approach with an online questionnaire sent via WhatsApp to 250 Catholic Generation Z respondents in several parishes. The results show that although offline Mass was rated as spiritually better, practical conditions made online Masses also preferred by the majority of respondents. This research provides insights for the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Pontianak in formulating pastoral approaches that better suit the spiritual and practical needs of Generation Z in the context of multicultural society of Pontianak

    Membangun Kompetensi Metakognitif Peserta Didik Melalui Deep Learning Dalam Pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam

    Islamic Religious Education continues to face significant challenges in cultivating students’ reflective awareness of religious values. The dominance of textual and memorization-based approaches has hindered the integration of religious teachings into students’ affective and spiritual dimensions. This conceptual study explores how the deep learning approach can foster students’ metacognitive competence in PAI instruction. Drawing on a literature review of educational theories and previous research, the study finds that deep learning strategies—such as reflective discussions, case studies, problem-based learning, self-assessment, and reflective journaling—significantly enhance students’ metacognitive awareness. This enhancement is evident through several indicators: (1) the ability to plan and regulate thinking processes (metacognitive regulation), (2) awareness of personal strengths and weaknesses in understanding religious teachings (self-evaluation), (3) the capacity to connect Islamic concepts with real-life contexts (cognitive-affective integration), and (4) critical reflection on personal religious values and beliefs (value-based awareness). As a result, religious education transforms from mere knowledge transmission into a meaningful process of nurturing self-aware, reflective, and ethically grounded religious character. The study recommends that PAI educators consistently integrate deep learning approaches into instructional design and engage in ongoing pedagogical training to facilitate the development of authentic spiritual awareness through meaningful learning experiences

    The Growth of Islamic Schools in Singkawang in the Colonial Era

    The purpose of this study is to describe the development of Islamic schools in Singkawang during the Dutch East Indies colonial era (1901-1942). This era was marked by the transformation of Islamic education from traditional to formal, which was driven by the need to integrate general subjects. Interestingly, Islamic schools were able to exist amidst the rapid growth of Catholic Mission schools and the dominance of the Chinese community in Singkawang.Based on the results of the study through historical methods with the stages of heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography, it shows the following. Traditional Islamic education still dominated in the early 20th century through pengajian and alim-ulama as teachers. This practice occurred in several places around Singkawang, such as in the large mosque (Jami), surau in Selakau led by H. Muhammad As'ad, Semelagi, and other Malay villages. Driven by the development of Pan-Islamism, the existence of educated natives, and the wild school ordinance, traditional Islamic education was transformed into formal schools. Islamic schools that were once established in Singkawang during this era included the Islamiyah School in the city center, Madrasah in Semelagi Besar, Semelegi Kecil, Sungai Daun, Setapuk Besar, Madrasah Diniyah Setapuk, and Ahhadiah School Sedau. The curriculum used continued to emphasize Islamic religious studies plus general subjects in the three-year Volkschool and the five-year Standaarschool. The existence of Islamic schools in this city has encouraged the birth of the national movement with the establishment of various national movement organizations.Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan perkembangan sekolah Islam di Singkawang pada era kolonialisme Hindia-Belanda (1901-1942). Era ini ditandai dengan terjadinya transformasi pendidikan Islam dari corak tradisional ke formal, yang didorong perlunya pengintegrasian pelajaran umum. Hal ini menjadi menarik bahwa sekolah Islam mampu eksis di tengah pesatnya sekolah Misi Katolik dan dominasi masyarakat Tionghoa di Singkawang. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian melalui metode sejarah dengan tahapan heuristik, verifikasi, interpretasi, dan historiografi, menunjukkan hal berikut. Pendidikan Islam tradisional masih mendominasi pada awal abad ke-20 lewat pengajian dan alim-ulama sebagai pengajarnya. Praktik ini terjadi di beberapa tempat sekitar Singkawang, seperti di masjid besar (jami’), surau di Selakau pimpinan H. Muhammad As’ad, Semelagi, dan kampung-kampung Melayu lainnya. Didorong berkembangnya paham Pan Islamisme, keberadan bumiputera terpelajar, dan ordonansi sekolah liar, pendidikan Islam bercorak tradisional itu bertransformasi menjadi sekolah formal. Sekolah Islam yang pernah berdiri di Singkawang di era ini antara lain Islamiyah School di pusat kota, Madrasah di Semelagi Besar, Semelegi Kecil, Sungai Daun, Setapuk Besar, Madrasah Diniyah Setapuk, dan Ahhadiah School Sedau. Kurikulum yang digunakan tetap menekankan pelajaran agama Islam ditambah pelajaran umum yang ada di Volkschool tiga tahun dan Standaarschool lima tahun. Keberadaan sekolah Islam di kota ini telah mendorong lahirnya pergerakan kebangsaan dengan berdirinya berbagai organisasi pergerakan nasional

    The Influence Of Islamic Reading Corners And Reading Interest On Students Reading Literacy In Madrasah Ibtidaiyah

    Nowadays, reading activities have become boring and uninteresting activities for students. One of the schools efforts to foster students' interest in reading is by forming a reading corner in the corner of the classroom. The reading corner in this madrasah ibtidaiyah is decorated with Islamic nuances so students are more active in reading and reminding them that first revelation that Rasullulah got was the command to read. This study aims to analyse the effect of Islamic reading corner and reading interest on reading literacy in madrasah ibtidaiyah. This type of research is a correlation type quantitative research that aims to see the relationship between the variables of Islamic reading corner, reading interest, and reading literacy. The population in this study was in the madrasah ibtidaiyah of the setu cluster, setu sub district, the sample was at MI Nurul Falah Muncul, totalling 54 fourth grade students. The sampling technique in this study used simple random sampling technique and analysis technique in this study used multiple linear regression analysis techniques. The results showed that T test of the Islamic reading corner variable with reading interest had a significant and positive effect on reading literacy. While from the results of the F test, the Islamic reading corner and reading interest have a significant and positive influence on the reading literacy of grade IV students at MI Nurul Falah. Based on these results it can be concluded that the Islamic reading corner and reading interest have an effect on student reading literacy in MI.Dewasa ini kegiatan membaca menjadi kegiatan yang membosankan dan tidak diminati oleh siswa. Maka dari itu salah satu upaya sekolah untuk menumbuhkan minat membaca siswa dengan membentuk pojok baca yang berada di dalam sudut kelas, pojok baca yang berda di madrasah ibtidaiyah ini dihiasi dengan nuansa islami agar siswa semakin giat dalam membaca dan mengingatkan bahwa wahyu pertama yang Rasullulah dapat adalah perintah membaca. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pojok baca bernuansa islami dan minat baca terhadap literasi membaca di madrasah ibtidaiyah. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif tipe korelasi yang bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antar variable pojok baca bernuansa islami, minat baca, dan literasi membaca. Populasi pada penelitian ini berada di madrasah ibtidaiyah gugus setu kecamatan setu, sampel berada di MI Nurul Falah Muncul yang berjumlah 54 siswa kelas IV. Teknik pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik simpel random sampling. Teknik analisis data pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis regresi linear berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan yaitu hasil uji T variabel pojok baca bernuansa islami dengan minat baca mempunyai pengaruh signifikan dan positif terhadap literasi membaca. Sedangkan dari hasil uji F pojok baca bernuansa islami dan minat baca mempunyai pengaruh signifikan serta positif terhadap literasi membaca siswa kelas IV di MI Nurul Falah. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan pojok baca bernuansa islami dan minat baca berpengaruh terhadap literasi membaca siswa di MI

    Enhancing the Capacity for Classroom Action Research Utilizing Artificial Intelligence Among Teachers at MAN Bengkayang

    Issues Examined in this article: Firstly, the level of comprehension and awareness among teachers at MAN Bengkayang regarding the significance of Classroom Action Research (CAR) in enhancing the quality of education; secondly, the obstacles encountered by teachers at MAN Bengkayang in conducting CAR; thirdly, the identification of effective strategies to improve the capacity of teachers at MAN Bengkayang in implementing AI-based CAR; and fourthly, the extent to which AI-based CAR training programs contribute to the enhancement of teachers' professional competencies at MAN Bengkayang. This article is derived from a community engagement initiative grounded in research utilizing the Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology. The findings are as follows: first, teachers at MAN Bengkayang exhibit a limited understanding of Classroom Action Research (CAR). Second, teachers at MAN Bengkayang face significant challenges in balancing teaching responsibilities with administrative tasks, which impede the effective implementation of CAR. Third, effective strategies to enhance teachers' competencies in conducting AI-based CAR should encompass technological training, fostering collaboration among teachers, leveraging data for evaluation and feedback, integrating technology into the curriculum, and ensuring the availability of adequate infrastructure. Fourth, AI-based CAR training programs have substantially improved the professional competencies of teachers at MAN Bengkayang. Before participating in the AI-based CAR training, the professional competency of teachers at MAN Bengkayang was assessed at 68.12%, categorized as "adequate." Following the training, this competency level increased to 90.1%, categorized as "excellent."Isu yang dibahas dalam artikel ini: Pertama, tingkat pemahaman dan kesadaran guru di MAN Bengkayang terhadap pentingnya Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan. Kedua, hambatan yang dihadapi oleh guru di MAN Bengkayang dalam melaksanakan PTK. Ketiga, identifikasi strategi efektif untuk meningkatkan kapasitas guru di MAN Bengkayang dalam menerapkan PTK berbasis AI. Keempat, sejauh mana program pelatihan PTK berbasis AI berkontribusi pada peningkatan kompetensi profesional guru di MAN Bengkayang. Artikel ini berasal dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang didasarkan pada penelitian dengan menggunakan metode Participatory Action Research (PAR). Temuan penelitian adalah sebagai berikut: Pertama, Guru di MAN Bengkayang menunjukkan pemahaman yang terbatas tentang Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Kedua, Guru di MAN Bengkayang menghadapi tantangan besar dalam menyeimbangkan tanggung jawab mengajar dengan tugas administratif, yang menghambat pelaksanaan PTK secara efektif. Ketiga, Strategi efektif untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam melaksanakan PTK berbasis AI meliputi: pelatihan teknologi, mendorong kolaborasi antar guru, memanfaatkan data untuk evaluasi dan umpan balik, mengintegrasikan teknologi ke dalam kurikulum, serta memastikan ketersediaan infrastruktur yang memadai. Keempat, Program pelatihan PTK berbasis AI secara signifikan meningkatkan kompetensi profesional guru di MAN Bengkayang. Sebelum mengikuti pelatihan PTK berbasis AI, kompetensi profesional guru di MAN Bengkayang dinilai sebesar 68,12% (kategori "cukup"). Setelah pelatihan, tingkat kompetensi ini meningkat menjadi 90,1% (kategori "sangat baik")

    UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF RELIGIOUS HARMONY IN THE ANALYSING OF PHILOSOPHY OF RELIGION

    This research aims to enrich the understanding of the concept of religious harmony from the perspective of philosophy of religion, as well as to identify the contribution of philosophy of religion in enriching the understanding of religious harmony in the context of religious diversity in Indonesia. This research uses qualitative descriptive research methods with phenomenological approach. Based on the analysis conducted, it can be concluded that religious harmony is a fundamental concept in religious and societal life. This concept relates to values of tolerance, mutual respect, and understanding differences. Philosophy of religion can provide significant contributions in enriching the understanding of religious harmony by presenting basic concepts such as religious pluralism, tolerance and justic. Furthermore, philosophy of religion can also assist in identifying the root causes of challenges to religious harmony and provide strategies to overcome them. Thus, a deeper understanding of the concept of religious harmony from the perspective of philosophy of religion can help society in facing challenges to religious harmony and strengthening diversity in Indonesi

    From Guest to Host Religion: The Transformation of Islam In Papua

    This article examines the dynamics of Islamic da’wah in Papua, highlighting historical challenges and contemporary transformations within a social, political, and cultural context. This study uses a qualitative approach with historical and social analysis through a review of literature, Islamic organizational documents, and narratives from Papuan Muslim figures. The results show that although Islam was the first Abrahamic religion to arrive in Papua, its spread was hampered by the influence of colonialism and the dominance of Christian and Catholic missions, which relegated Islam to a minority position with an exclusive image. However, over time, Islamic da’wah has undergone significant transformation, particularly through educational and empowerment initiatives undertaken by organizations such as Nahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, and the Papuan Muslim Council. These changes have fostered the emergence of educated and influential Papuan Muslim figures and strengthened awareness of Islamic identity as an integral part of Papuan culture. These findings confirm that Islamic preaching based on a cultural approach and social empowerment is more effective in transforming the old narrative of Islam as a “newcomer religion,” toward recognizing it as a legitimate part of Papuan identity. Going forward, ethnographic-based research is needed to capture the pulse of Papuan Muslims at the grassroots level and understand Islam as growing from within, not simply coming from the outside

    The Value of Islamic Education in Traditional Malay Poetry Concerning the Prohibition of Leaving Religious Teachings

    This study aims to explore taboos and prohibitions in traditional Malay poetry that embody Islamic educational values. The traditional poetry analyzed includes gurindam, pantun, poetry, and expressions that were once integral to daily life but have now become increasingly rare. The Islamic educational values examined in this study encompass aspects of faith (aqidah), acts of worship (ibadah), and commendable conduct (akhlaq). This research employs both qualitative and quantitative approaches, utilizing a problem-solving methodology that includes literature review, content analysis, and comparative analysis. Data were collected from gurindam manuscripts, pantun, poetry, and Malay expressions that align with the teachings of the Quran, supported by the translation and interpretation of Ibn Kathir. The analytical process involves investigating and documenting relevant Quranic verses and Hadith that reinforce taboos and prohibitions found in traditional poetry, followed by formulating research findings. The study identifies the following key findings: (a) The Islamic educational values related to faith include: (1) The prohibition against associating partners with God (shirk) in Malay culture; (2) The prohibition against apostasy (riddah) among Malays. (b) The Islamic educational values related to acts of worship include: (1) The prohibition against neglecting prayer (salah); (2) The prohibition against neglecting fasting (sawm); (3) The prohibition against neglecting almsgiving (zakat); (4) The prohibition against neglecting the Hajj pilgrimage. (c) The Islamic educational values related to morality (akhlaq), specifically the prohibition against engaging in sinful or immoral acts. The findings of this study have implications for Malay Literature courses, where students will be introduced to taboos and prohibitions embedded in Malay culture. These values will be disseminated through interactive videos and digital media promotions. The utilization of digital platforms is expected to bridge the generational gap, fostering greater interest among younger generations in understanding and contributing to the preservation of this cultural heritage.Penelitian ini merupakan upaya investigasi pantang larang dalam puisi tradisional Melayu bermuatan nilai pendidikan Islam. Puisi tradisional yang ditelaah meliputi gurindam, pantun, syair, dan ungkapan yang dulunya selalu digunakan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, sekarang jarang sekali terdengar di telinga. Muatan pendidikan Islam yang dimaksud dalam kajian ini merujuk pada keimanan, amal ibadah dan perbuatan terpuji. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif dengan pendekatan pemecahan masalah yaitu tinjauan pustaka, analisis isi, analisis komparatif. Data yang dikumpulkan dari buku-buku gurindam, pantun, syair, dan ungkapan Melayu yang diduga sejalan dengan ayat alquran beserta terjemah serta tafsir Ibnu Katsir. Langkah analisis meliputi Menyelidiki dan mendokumentasikan mengutip ayat Alquran dan Hadis yang mendukung pantang larang dalam puisi tradisional serta merumuskan hasil penelitian. Hasil kajian yang ditemukan adalah (a) Nilai pendidikan Islam terkait akidah meliputi (1) Orang Melayu dilarang menyekutukan Tuhan; (b) Orang Melayu dilarang murtad; (b) Nilai pendidikan Islam terkait ibadah meliputi (1) Orang Melayu dilarang meninggalkan prayer, (2) Orang Melayu dilarang meninggalkan puasa, (3) Orang Melayu dilarang meninggalkan zakat, dan (4) Orang Melayu dilarang meninggalkan haji; (c) Nilai pendidikan Islam terkait Akhlak yaitu larangan berbuat fasik. Hasil kajian ini dapat diimplikasikan pada mata kuliah Sastra Melayu. Mahasiswa akan diajarkan tentang pantang larang dalam budaya Melayu, yang nantinya akan dipromosikan dalam bentuk video interaktif dan promosi di platform media digital. Promosi melalui Platform media digital dapat menjembatani kesenjangan antara generasi tua dan muda, serta menarik minat generasi muda dalam memahami dan turut melestarikan warisan budaya ini

    THE TRADITION OF TEPUNG TAWAR IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF CONTEMPORARY ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

    The Tepung Tawar tradition is one of the cultural ceremonies still preserved by the Malay community, including in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan. This ceremony is usually performed to mark significant events in a person's life, such as weddings, births, or other major occasions. The aim of this research is to describe and explain the Tepung Tawar tradition practiced among the people of Sambas. This study falls under the qualitative cluster with an ethnographic approach. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data condensation, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study show that the Tepung Tawar tradition in Sambas, West Kalimantan, is a cultural heritage that has deeply rooted within the local community. Typically performed during important moments such as weddings or births, this ceremony involves the pouring of rice fowder and prayer water on the celebrated individual, symbolizing blessings and prayers for safety. From the perspective of contemporary Islamic religious education, this tradition reflects the practice of social and spiritual values that harmonize with Islamic teachings. Although not a core part of Islamic teachings, the Tepung Tawar practice can be understood as an effort to strengthen brotherhood and maintain a balance between culture and religion in community life. 

    Teori Humanistik dan Implikasinya dalam Pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam

    This research aims to analyze the implementation of humanistic theory and its impact on cognitive, emotional, and spiritual aspects. Students feel happy and enthusiastic, take the initiative in learning, experience changes in mindset, behavior, and attitude of their own accord without pressure or coercion, and are helped to develop their potential to the fullest. The teacher acts as a facilitator who supports students in a meaningful learning process. The humanistic theory positions students as unique, active, and valuable individuals in the learning process. This research uses a qualitative library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach by collecting sources from various relevant books and articles. In Indonesia, learning objectives are determined by teachers based on established educational standards. For the methods and media to be used, they can be agreed upon by the teacher and the students. This approach also emphasizes the importance of creating an inclusive and empathetic learning environment, where students feel valued and accepted, and encourages them to internalize Islamic values in their daily lives. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of humanistic theory can enhance students' intrinsic motivation, deepen their understanding of Islamic teachings, and encourage them to apply these values in social and spiritual interactions
