Humor Discourse Structure: A Political Communication Strategy
Get PDFLanguage phenomena during political years are always extraordinary. Drama is a constant presence, both online and offline, manifesting in various forms such as social media or real-life situations. Despite the inevitability of this problem due to the unavoidable nature of the election season, some deputy candidates are diligently creating political communication strategies to gain acceptance from the broader society. It is essential to comprehend these strategies collectively to ensure that the selected representatives do not consistently project an unfavorable image. Prior research has indeed been conducted on political communication and humor, but as distinct areas of study. This research combines the concept of humor with transitivity theory to thoroughly and precisely investigate the data. The approach employed is qualitative, underpinned by Halliday's transitivity theory and van Dijk's critical discourse analysis. The data source is the legislative interview (wawancaleg) on the channel @Abdel.Achrian. The data were collected using the observation method, which involved the basic technique of listening and the advanced technique of taking notes. The analysis reveals that the predominant structure of political communication discussion in the legislative interview program, hosted by Abdel Achrian, is characterized by material and mental processes. The material and mental processes achieve equilibrium between the physical and the mental, creating a demeanor that is both calm and earnest. The reader can infer that this pattern is applicable to speech patterns characterized by a relaxed or non-stiff expression, but nevertheless conveying a serious impression
ChatGPT in Action: Unraveling its Impact on Student Motivation in English Language Learning
Get PDFThe utilization of Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology has emerged as a valuable instrument for students due to its considerable potential in transforming the educational process. The proliferation and acceptance of AI in educational settings have garnered considerable attention from scholars, prompting comprehensive investigation. This study employs an experimental design utilizing a One Group Pretest-Posttest arrangement to assess the impact of ChatGPT on student motivation in learning the English language. The study participants comprised 40 students from the Fisheries Academy in Biak, Papua, Indonesia, selected based on criteria such as technology possession, English language proficiency, and willingness to partake. Data collection was conducted through English language proficiency assessments and questionnaires, subsequently analyzed employing SPSS 25.0 software. Results revealed a notable enhancement in student motivation subsequent to the implementation of ChatGPTin English language learning. Both English proficiency test outcomes and questionnaire responses exhibited significant elevations in student motivation from the pre-test to the post-test phase. Statistical scrutiny verified substantial disparities between pre-test and post-test scores, affirming the efficacy of ChatGPTin augmenting student motivation. Factors contributing to this elevation encompass personalized and real-time interactions, adaptive learning methodologies, and the user-friendly nature of AI technology
Pedagogical Communication Analysis in Training Scientific Articles Writing
No full textThis research is motivated by the importance of writing scientific articles for academics. The importance of this writing activity in the end led to the rapidly increasing of scientific article writing training in various institutions. The existence and success of the training is of course based on indicators of training implementation, one of which is the pedagogical communication strategy developed by tutors or resource persons. This is important because communication or the use of appropriate language is believed to melt the mental blocks that writers often experience. This study aims to describe the use of pedagogical communication in scientific article writing training. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data sources in the form of pedagogical communication in scientific article writing training. The research instrument used was a word observation sheet with data collection through video observation and drawing conclusions based on interventions resulting from data analysis. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively by coding, describing and interpreting the data. The analysis indicators are based on pedagogical communication aspects, including 1) clarity, 2) fluency, 3) language systematics, 4) quality of interaction, and 5) use of written language. The result obtained is that pedagogical communication does not always have to be interactive or two-way or multi-directional, as long as the five aspects of pedagogical communication are met

The purpose of this study was to identify the thematic roles assigned to subject argument passive diathesis in Minangkabau. The sorts of thematic roles assigned to subject position in passive voice were recognized and evaluated. This descriptive qualitative research was carried out using the research phases of (1) data collection, (2) data analysis, and (3) result presentation. The data was gathered from written source that is the novel Padati Ajo Dindin written by Ajo Flamboyan (2020) and oral sources in Minangkabau dialect. No full textSpeaking issues among students also include anxiousness and a lack of confidence. They could experience emotions like timidity, worry, nervousness, anxiety, and lack of confidence that impact their ability to communicate in English. It has become a major issue for the pupils if they do not think they are capable of speaking. The use of visual media in storytelling enhances its participatory nature. One technique used by educators to convey their learning experiences to children is storytelling. The storytelling learning approach has an impact on children''s capacity to talk because it makes it easy for them to acquire language skills in both simple spoken words they use and spoken words they hear. Posters, pictures, puppets, lifelike objects and statues, and flashcards are examples of media that tell stories.Natural settings were used for doing qualitative research. The items in qualitative research need to be analyzed and constructed in a clearer manner. The photos was chosen as a medium for DKV students'' media storytelling because it is engaging, teaches visual design, tells stories, and is essential to analyzing the students'' verbal literacy. Teachers and lecturers need to be more imaginative in today''s globalized classroom, especially when it comes to digital learning. Because of the anticipated learning objectives, these educational activities are enjoyable and engaging rather than dry and methodical.People in today''s technology age run the risk of becoming overwhelmed by the fast and limitless flow of information if they lack literacy skills abilities. Furthermore, DKV students'' greater originality depends heavily on their creativity. According to Yani Fitriyani et al. (2021) it refers to the ability of a person to come up with new concepts and inventions that reduce monotony, especially for pupils. Since it keeps learning from getting boring and not getting the most out of it, creativity is crucial. Student comprehension and academic performance may suffer if the advantages of learning are not maximized (Muhammad Wdaji, et al., 2021). Thus, students'' comprehension, as well as their engagement and enjoyment in the learning process, are greatly influenced by the originality of their teachers. Because storytelling effectively involves both the storyteller and the listener, focusing their attention on the medium used to transmit the story, it can be utilized to develop thinking skills. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Adapun teknik pengumpulan data yaitu observasi,wawancara, dan dokumentasi.Hasil dari penelitian ini dapat dideskripsikan bahwa penerapan budaya literasi di kelas V di SD Muhammadiyah Pangkalpinang. kerap dilakukan setiap hari sebelum pembelajaran dimulai,pada kegiatan siswa melakukan pembiasaan dalam membaca menggunakan berbagai jenis buku non pelajaran seperti, cerpen, novel, dan pembiasaan membaca al quran selama 15 menit di kelas. Adapun nilai- nilai karakter yang terbentuk yaitu nilai karakter religius, disiplin, rasa ingin tahu, gemar membaca, dan peduli lingkungan
