Der Einfluß des Elbebibers auf Waldbestände und forstwirtschaftliche Konsequenzen
.During the years 1991 to 1993 the species, Number, and diameter of trees cut by the beaver were recorded in five study areas in the Middle Elbe region near Wittenberg. So damages caused by the beaver in forest should be quantified.
It could be shown that beavers prefer Populus, Betula and Cornus species but are also be able to change their feeding habitats in dependence of the local supply. They mainly cut trees of a lower diameter with an average of 3,45 cm. In old woods without much undergrowth they couse barking damages on old trunks. However, the total damage remains relatively low. lt fluctuated between 0,11 and 4,07 % with an annual amount of 1.8 to 12,6 fm per beaver Settlement. By testing commercial repellents used in agriculture and forestry a deterrent effect on the beaver habitats can be drawn:
1. Forest clearing directly to the bank should be avoided.
2. To prevent damages softwood strips of low diameters and a breadth of about 30m should be kept or plantetd along the bank of the water.
3. In areas seriously affected by the beaver single future trunks should be selected and protected individually.
4. Timber trees or forestry border along waters should be left to spontaneous succession
Beitrag zur Verbreitung der Zauneidechse, Lacerta agilis Linnaeus, 1758, in der Halleschen Kuppenlandschaft
.According to available literature and observations in the "Hallesche Kuppenlandschaft" north of Halle (Saale) for the period from 1961 to 1995, 156 sites of sand lizard (Lacerta agilis L., 1758) were collected and mapped. That are further sites for two quadrants of the large-scale map 4437 (Halle-Nord).The map is showing some areas with a high frequency of sites of sand lizard, but it includes also gaps of distribution. The species was proved in some ofthe areas, including small porphyry hills, over a period of several years. Hints for full isolation of any population were not found. Porphyry and limestone hills with complexes of dry and mesoxerophytic meadows are important habitats of sand lizard in the investigation area. Concerning the protection of Lacerta agilis, suggestions were made
Letzte Grabungsaktivitäten im südwestlichen Geiseltal bei Halle (Sachsen-Anhalt, Deutschland) in den Jahren 1992 und 1993
After a period of 70 years the fossil excavations in the Geiseltal came to their definite end on June 30th, 1993, because of the ceased coal production, in the last outcrop "Mücheln- Südfeld- Fortsetzung". The last vertebrate site LIX, situated in the lower upper middle coal (oMK) is presented and characterized, the faunaland floral content is listed. Now the maximum of paleontological information is accumulated in the Geiseltal collection of the Institute for Geological Seiences and Geiseltalmuseum, Halle (Saale). After a period of 70 years the fossil excavations in the Geiseltal came to their definite end on June 30th, 1993, because of the ceased coal production, in the last outcrop "Mücheln- Südfeld- Fortsetzung".
