Observation of WWγ production and search for Hγ production in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
PubMed ID: 38579207The observation of WWγ production in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1 is presented. The observed (expected) significance is 5.6 (5.1) standard deviations. Events are selected by requiring exactly two leptons (one electron and one muon) of opposite charge, moderate missing transverse momentum, and a photon. The measured fiducial cross section for WWγ is 5.9 0.8ðstatÞ 0.8ðsystÞ 0.7ðmodelingÞ fb, in agreement with the next-to-leading order quantum chromodynamics prediction. The analysis is extended with a search for the associated production of the Higgs boson and a photon, which is generated by a coupling of the Higgs boson to light quarks. The result is used to constrain the Higgs boson couplings to light quarks. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration
Lithography-free highly sensitive detection of glucose based on colloidal spheres
Diabetes has emerged as a global health crisis, with a substantial increase in prevalence and associated healthcare costs. The urgency for early diagnosis to prevent complications has fueled research into advanced biosensing technologies. Plasmonic sensors, leveraging localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), have gained prominence for their sensitivity. This study explores a metamaterial-based sensor platform comprising nanospheres fabricated through colloidal lithography. A comprehensive numerical and experimental analysis of the designed metamaterial-based sensor is presented, focusing on the spectral response at the resonance frequency of 535 nm. Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations reveal the field and charge distributions, enabling a systematic exploration of geometric parameters’ impact on absorption resonance. The chosen optimum parameters are validated experimentally, demonstrating excellent agreement between numerical predictions and experimental outcomes. The spectral shifts occurring in the absorption spectrum of the sensor have demonstrated the molecular detection capability of very low concentrations of glucose oxidase, such as 0.001 ppm. Our approach, offering a cost-effective alternative to common fabrication methods, holds promise for the mass production of highly sensitive biosensors, providing a pathway for the development of advanced diagnostic tools for diabetes and other healthcare applications
Power generation prediction of a geothermal-thermoelectric hybrid system using intelligent models
This study focuses on the most effective use of energy resources, which is the main goal of sustainable energy systems. The first contribution of the research is to ensure that the waste and geothermal fluids generated during the geothermal energy production process are evaluated in the most efficient way and reused for energy production. For this purpose, a geothermal-thermoelectric hybrid experimental system has been designed to produce electrical energy through heat exchange and how waste thermal energy could be reused in this process has been examined. Experimental tests have been performed under electrical load and in the presence of real-time uncertainties such as temperature changes, thermal conductivity, electrical noise, heat losses and random variations in thermal interaction. The second main contribution of the study is to predict and evaluate different power generation performances in the Thermoelectric Generator (TEG) system, which is affected by the mentioned experimental limitations based on artificial intelligence models. In addition, the optimal prediction performance of artificial intelligence models using hyper-parameter optimization has also been compared. Experimental results have shown that intelligent models are a successful tool for energy prediction in geothermal power generation. As a result of the hyper-parameter optimization, each model is improved by ?5 % to ?30 % in various error metrics. However, it was observed that the decision tree-based learning techniques resulted in ?46 % to ?96 % less inaccurate predictions on various error metrics compared to other methods. Power production predictions obtained using intelligent models have been obtained with 98.7 % accuracy with LightGBM learning algorithms. Most of the models used to classify different hot and cold water levels exhibit very high classification performance. The results show the successful integration of artificial intelligence models in effectively utilizing waste thermal energy and adopting a sustainable approach to energy production. © 2023 Elsevier Lt
Effect of intensive training on immune system cells in elite female weightlifters
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the effects of intense weightlifting training on lymphocyte and natural killer cell subgroups, which are the major cells of the immune system, in elite female weightlifters.METHODS: A total of 20 elite female weightlifters were evaluated using flow cytometry before training (pre-T), immediately after training (post-T), and after a 120-min rest period (rest-T).RESULTS: Post-T and rest-T showed significant decreases in helper T (Th) and cytotoxic T compared with pre-T (p=0.045, p<0.001 and p=0.05, p<0.001, respectively). B and natural killer cells were higher in post-T and rest-T than in pre-T. The increase in B cells was significant in pre-T/rest-T (p<0.001) but not in pre-T/post-T (p=0.122). Intense training significantly increased natural killer cells in both post-T and rest-T (p<0.001). CD56brightand CD56dim natural killer cell subgroups were significantly lower in post-T and rest-T than in pre-T (p=0.005, p=0.006 and p<0.001, p=0.004, respectively).CONCLUSION: This study shows that intense weightlifting alters peripheral lymphocyte and natural killer subgroup ratios, being the first investigation in this field.Necmettin Erbakan University Scientific Research Projects Coordinator [221218009]The study was supported by Necmettin Erbakan University Scientific Research Projects Coordinator for supporting this study with research project number 221218009 research project numbers
Perceptions of forest product businesses employees in Turkey regarding occupational health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic
PubMed ID: 37742673BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has undeniably brought up the issue of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) for businesses in Turkey. In this global pandemic, strategies developed to effectively address OHS risks and eliminate them with reliable, high-quality data have gained importance. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the perceptions of employees in the forest products industry in Turkey regarding the OHS during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHOD: The sample of the descriptive and analytical study consisted of a total of 371 employees in forest product businesses located in Turkey. The sample of the study was determined by the purpose-based sampling method. Data were collected both online and face-To-face from June 2022 to October 2022. The data were obtained using the Questionnaire of Employee and Business Characteristics and the Scale of Employees' Perceptions on the OHS (S-POHS) adapted by Özden (2022). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS and calculated by descriptive analyses, pairwise comparison tests and multivariate regression analyses. RESULTS: 39.1% of the employees with a mean age of 34.12±8.78 years are high school graduates and 61.5% are workers. Significant differences were found in the S-POHS average scores of the employees in the businesses that produce paper-cardboard, have operated for less than 20 years, have a partnership structure with foreign capital and have an OHS Management System Quality Certificate (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: While a positive OHS perception level has already been achieved in the forest products industry in business administrations and by employees, it is clear that this should not be lost and it should be prepared for the next crises by adding new applications
Classification of killing magnetic curves in ℍ3
In this paper, we study classification of magnetic curves corresponding to Killing vector fields of ℍ3. First, we solve the geodesic equation analytically. Then we calculate the trajectories generated by all the six Killing vector fields, which are considered as magnetic field vectors, by using perturbation method up to first-order with respect to the strength of the magnetic field. We present a comparison of our solution with the numerical solution for one case. We also prove that 3-dimensional (α)-Kenmotsu manifolds cannot have any magnetic vector field in the direction of their Reeb vector fields
