    Voltammetric determination of mercury (ıı) ions in 5-methoxy-2-({[4-(3-methyl-3-phenyl-cyclobutyl)-thiazol-2-yl]-hydrazone}-phenyl-methyl)-phenol modified glassy carbon electrode by differential pulse voltammetry

    The aim of this research is to design an electrochemical sensor for the determination of mercury (II) (Hg2+) 2+ ) ions. A new compound 5-methoxy-2-({[4-(3-methyl-phenylcyclobutyl)-thiazol-2-yl]-hydrazone}-phenyl-methylene) (MTP) phenol as a substituent on glassy carbon (GC) electrode is reported. The electrochemical behaviors of the new compound were examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV) before characterization of the modified electrode by CV, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Determination of trace amounts of Hg2+ 2+ ions using a modified electrode was carried out using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). To obtain optimized results, the effect of medium acidity and incubation time were investigated. The best results are pH 10.0 and incubation time (90 min), using Britton-Robinson (BR) buffer solution as the supporting electrolyte in all measurements. Under these optimal conditions, the oxidation peak current of Hg2+ 2+ ions exhibited a linear increase corresponding to concentrations ranging from 5.0 to 20.0 mu M and 50.0 to 200.0 mM. Limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) are equal to 1.12 and 3.39 mu M, respectively.This study was conducted as part of Hafizullah Sharfi's master's thesis

    Bu çalışmanın özeti, tarımda biyokömürün kullanımının toprak iyileştirmesi ve ürün verimliliği açısından sürdürülebilir bir yaklaşım sunduğunu vurgulamaktadır. Biyokömür, tarımsal ve ormansal atıkların kontrol edilen bir piroliz süreciyle karbonize edilmesiyle elde edilen karbon zengini bir malzemedir. Bu malzemenin topraklara uygulanması, toprak verimliliğini artırma, su tutma kapasitesini iyileştirme ve bitki besin maddelerinin daha etkili kullanılmasını sağlama potansiyeline sahiptir. Biyokömürün toprak mikrobiyotası ve biyolojik aktivite üzerinde olumlu etkileri, sürdürülebilir tarım uygulamalarına katkı sağlamaktadır. Ayrıca, biyokömürün iklim değişikliği ile mücadelede karbon tutma yeteneği, bu malzemenin çevresel sürdürülebilirlik açısından önemini vurgular. Bu çalışma, biyokömürün tarımda kullanımının çeşitli avantajlarını ele alarak, sürdürülebilir tarımın teşvik edilmesine yönelik önemli bir adım olarak değerlendirilmektedir.The summary of this study emphasizes that the use of biochar in agriculture presents a sustainable approach to soil improvement and crop productivity. Biochar is a carbon-rich material obtained through a controlled pyrolysis process of agricultural and forestry residues. The application of this material to soils has the potential to enhance soil fertility, improve water retention capacity, and enable more effective utilization of plant nutrients. The positive effects of biochar on soil microbiota and biological activity contribute to sustainable agricultural practices. Furthermore, the carbon sequestration capability of biochar in combating climate change underscores its significance for environmental sustainability. This study evaluates the various advantages of biochar utilization in agriculture, considering it a crucial step toward promoting sustainable farming practices

    A Generalised Difference Equation and Its Dynamics and Solutions

    Rational difference equations have a wide range of applications in various fields of science. To illustrate, the equation (Formula presented.), known as the Riccati difference equation, has been applied in the field of optics. In this study, the global asymptotic stability of the difference equation (Formula presented.), is proved. The solutions of this difference equation are obtained by applying the standard iteration method, and the periodicity of these solutions is determined. Furthermore, this difference equation represents a generalisation of the results obtained in previous studies. © 2024 by the authors

    Fault analysis in power transformers with finite element analysis and deep learning: a study on flux distributions

    - In this study, a 2000 kVA power transformer with34.5/0.4 kV voltage, 50 Hz frequency, and Delta-Star connection is modeled under nonlinear loading conditions using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Various fault types (short circuit, voltage imbalance, and harmonic distortions) that may occur under operating conditions of the transformer are analyzed through FEA simulations. For each fault type and for a healthy transformer, magnetic flux distributions are obtained. These magnetic flux distributions reflect the distinctive characteristics of each fault type, illustrating points of divergence in the transformer's internal magnetic behavior. The obtained flux distribution images are used as a dataset for the automatic classification of fault types. For the classification process, deep learning-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) models, namely ResNet18, ResNet50, VGG16, GoogleNet, and MobileNetv2, are utilized. These models are distinguished by their ability to differentiate between various fault conditions based on flux distributions. Results demonstrate that faults can be predicted from flux distribution images with accuracies up to 100%. The conducted classification studies provide an effective method for the early detection of faults in power transformers, thereby enhancing system reliability. In conclusion, this study presents a comprehensive analysis of the use of AI techniques for identifying and classifying different fault conditions in power transformers based on flux distributions. This method has the potential to optimize transformer maintenance and repair processes, thereby improving the reliability of energy systems. ©2024 IEEE

In addition, the solutions of the aforementioned system of difference equations are presented by utilizing the Fibonacci sequence when the parameters are equal to 1.     Yeni zelanda tavşanlarında pelvis anatomisi ve morfometrik analizi

    This study aims to obtain three-dimensional models of the cavum pelvis in New Zealand rabbits of both genders using CT images, to measure the pelvis diameters and angles through the created digital models, and to compare female and male New Zealand Rabbits in terms of sexual dimorphism. A total of 20 New Zealand rabbits, 10 females and 10 males, were used in this study. Computed tomography (CT) images of the animals were taken, the images were reconstructed with the MIMICS 20.1 program, and a three-dimensional model of the pelvic cavity was obtained from the two-dimensional images. Morphometric data were obtained by making diameter and angle measurements on the resulting 3D model. Then, the rabbits were dissected and the os coxae was exposed and the anatomical formations were named. When pelvimetry measurements in female and male rabbits were compared, it was seen that all values except pelvic tilt were higher in females. The data reveal that there is no significant difference in the volume and surface area of the right and left os coxae between male and female rabbits (P > .05). In this study comparing the morphometric differences of the pelvis in female and male New Zealand rabbits, volume and surface area data were shared for the first time. The collected data could be used for sex discrimination in rabbits, assist physicians in diagnosing patients, serve as a reference for clinical practices, and form the basis for new research. © 2024, Ataturk Universitesi. All rights reserved.Bu çalışmanın amacı, Yeni Zelanda tavşanlarının BT görüntüleri kullanarak her iki cinsiyetteki cavum pelvis’in üç boyutlu modellerini elde etmek, oluşturulan dijital modeller üzerinde pelvis çaplarını ve açı ölçümlerini gerçekleştirerek, dişi ve erkek Yeni Zelanda tavşanlarını cinsel dimorfizm açısından karşılaştırmaktır. Çalışmada 10'u dişi, 10'u erkek olmak üzere toplam 20 adet Yeni Zelanda tavşanı kullanıldı. Hayvanların bilgisayarlı tomografi (BT) görüntüleri alındıktan sonra, görüntüler MIMICS 20.1 programı ile yeniden yapılandırarak, iki boyutlu görüntülerden pelvik boşluğun üç boyutlu modeli elde edildi. Ortaya çıkan 3 boyutlu model üzerinde çap ve açı ölçümleri yapılarak morfometrik veriler elde edildi. Daha sonra tavşanlar diseke edilerek os coxae ortaya çıkarıldı ve anatomik oluşumlar isimlendirildi. Dişi ve erkek tavşanlarda pelvimetrik ölçümler karşılaştırıldığında dişilerde pelvik eğim dışındaki tüm değerlerin daha yüksek olduğu görüldü. Veriler, erkek ve dişi tavşanlar arasında sağ ve sol os coxae'nin hacmi ve yüzey alanı açısından anlamlı bir fark olmadığını ortaya koymaktadır (p>0.05). Dişi ve erkek Yeni Zelanda tavşanlarında pelvisin morfometrik farklılıklarının karşılaştırıldığı bu çalışmada hacim ve yüzey alanı verileri ilk kez paylaşıldı. Toplanan verilerin, tavşanlarda cinsiyet ayrımında kullanılabileceği, hekimlere hastalıkların teşhisinde yardımcı olacağı, klinik uygulamalara referans teşkil edeceği ve yeni araştırmalara temel oluşturacağı düşünülmektedir

    Multi-detection of seratonin and dopamine based on an electrochemical aptasensor

    Chemical stimuli that enable neurons to communicate with each other are called neurotransmitters. The task of these stimulants is to transmit the messages of neurons to target cells. In this work, a multi-detection mode electrochemical aptasensor system was developed for the neurotransmitters dopamine (3,4-dihydroxyphenylethylamine, DA) and serotonin (5 hydroxytryptamine, SER), which are associated with motivation-based learning, motor control, addiction, activation, arousal, immunity, central nervous systems. These neurotransmitters are related to many diseases, such as depression, primary pulmonary hypertension, kidney disease, Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and Parkinson's. This study used aptamer, a nucleic acid-based biorecognition agent, to capture the target molecules from complex matrix samples. After the capturing procedures, an electrochemical method (differential pulse voltammetry) was performed to observe the specific oxidation profiles of DA and SER. The developed multi-detection mode biosensor system had a linear response from 0.1 to 4 mu M with detection limits of 0.06 mu M for DA and 0.12 mu M for SER. In addition, real serum analyses were performed in the prepared direct electrochemical aptasensor system, and 86-92% of recovery values were observed.     Unexpected falls in schizophrenia: clozapine-induced negative myoclonus

    Myoclonus, characterized by sudden involuntary muscle contractions, can occur in a variety of conditions, including as a side effect of clozapine, which is used in the treatment-resistant schizophrenia. This case study describes a 48-year-old female patient who developed negative myoclonus, manifested by knee flexion and falls, after starting clozapine. Despite dose reduction and the addition of valproic acid, symptoms persisted, highlighting the dose-dependent nature of clozapine-induced myoclonus and the need for clinicians to recognise this risk

    Hemoglobin/red cell distribution width ratio is associated with poor prognosis in patients with acute coronary syndrome in long-term follow-up

    Background: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is the most common subtype of coronary artery disease (CAD). It is one of the main reasons affecting the expected life expectancy and quality of life. Objetives: In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and Hemoglobin (Hb)/Red cell distribution width (RDW) in long-term follow-up after ACS. Methods: A total of 1,146 ACS patients were included in the study, being classified according to the type of myocordial infarction (MI). MACE were recorded in long-term follow-up. The relationship between Hb/RDW and MACE was investigated. The statistical analyses of Mann-Whitney U test for comparison of two independent groups and chi-square test for categorical variables were used. In order to determine the diagnostic feature of the HB/RDW ratio, the diagnostic ratios were calculated by applying Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (ROC) analysis. A p < 0.05 value was considered statistically significant in all analyses. Results: When the patients were analyzed according to MI types — ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)/Non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) —, it was observed that Hb/RDW (p = 0.038) was significantly higher in the STEMI group. The Hb/RDW ratio was statistically significant in predicting mortality. As a result of ROC analysis, Area Under the Curve (AUC) = 0.654 (p < 0.001) was found. The cut-off value for the Hb/RDW ratio was calculated as 0.947. The sensitivity and specificity of 76.9% and 48.4% for the diagnostic rates obtained were moderately acceptable. Conclusion: The Hb/RDW-long-term mortality relationship was found to be significant in ROC analysis. It can be used in clinical practice as it is cheap, easy to apply, and reduces possible bias in post-ACS follow-up. © 2024, Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia. All rights reserved

    Nanofiber applications from hijiki macroalgae: Antibacterial and cytotoxicity properties in biocompatible polymers

    One of the current biotechnological applications is nanofiber applications made from algae using the electrospinning technique. Nanofibers containing poly-caprolactone (PCL) extracted from the brown seaweed Hijiki (Sargassum fusiforme) were prepared using electrospinning technique. Water extraction was performed to preserve the integrity of Hijiki components, ensuring their efficacy in subsequent electrospinning and characterization. The morphology and chemical composition of the nanofibers were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analyses. Hijiki was found to combine well with electrospun biocompatible polymers and effectively provide the common properties of these materials. The cytotoxicity of algae-doped PCL nanofibers was examined in vitro using liver cancer and liver healthy cell lines (HepG2 and The-2). Among hepatic tumor cell lines, the HepG2 cell line has been preferred due to its wide range of scientific applications. Although the nanofibers caused a 28% decrease in liver cancer cell lines viability (HepG2), the decrease in healthy liver cell viability (The-2) was 12%. Algae-doped PCL nanofiber applied to bacteria showed antibacterial effect. Based on the findings, Hijiki macroalgae nanofibers show great promise for tissue regeneration and band-aid applications in the medical industry
