    No full text
The study was conducted in order to determine the pressure on the achievement expectations perceived by the parents of gifted secondary school level children attending Science and Art Center in the 5th-8th grades attending Science and Art Center in the city center of Karaman. It was carried out with 115 gifted children at 5th-8th grade level. Demographic information form and Parental Achievement Pressure Scale were used to collect data. The branches in which children are diagnosed are, respectively, general ability with 71,30%, art with 16,52% and music with 12,18%. No significant relationship was found between the ages of gifted children attending Science and Art Center and the duration of their attendance at Science and Art Center, and the ages of their mothers and fathers, and parental pressure for achievement. On the other hand, it was concluded that the achievement pressure scores perceived by children in the general ability branch were significantly lower than the achievement pressure scores perceived by children in the art and music branches. At this point, it is thought that it would be appropriate to include necessary guidance for parents about not put pressure on their children who are diagnosed as gifted, especially with the expectation of academic achievement.. The author (s) received no financial support for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article

Fontan patients’ exercise capacity and associated risks of morbidity and mortality necessitate a comprehensive study. We aim to explore maximal and submaximal exercise capacity, assessing the impact of cardiovascular and peripheral factors, including atrial strain, aortic stiffness, and muscle-related factors. Fontan patients and matched controls were examined. Clinical details were recorded, and atrial strain and aortic stiffness were measured using echocardiography. Hand grip and knee extensor strength were assessed, and muscle oxygenation was recorded. Cardiopulmonary exercise test determined exercise capacity, with peak oxygen uptake/kg (VO2/kg) and oxygen uptake efficiency slope/kg (OUES/kg) as markers for maximal and submaximal capacity, respectively. Thirty-one Fontan patients (median age = 18, range = 7–31 years) and 30 controls (median age = 18, range = 7–32 years) were studied. No significant differences in body composition and muscle strength were observed between Fontan patients and controls (p > 0.05). Fontan patients exhibited lower peak VO2/kg and OUES/kg (p < 0.001 for both), along with decreased atrial strain and increased aortic stiffness compared to controls (p < 0.001). Aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV), left atrial strain contractile phase (LASct), and knee extensor strength independently predicted peak VO2/kg (R2 = 0.514) and OUES/kg (R2 = 0.486) in Fontan patients; age was a predictor for peak VO2/kg. Atrial contractile strain, aortic stiffness, and knee extensor muscle strength are predictors of submaximal exercise capacity; furthermore, age, along with these variables, serves as predictors of maximal exercise capacity in Fontan patients. Evaluating hemodynamic, vascular, and muscular parameters, in conjunction with assessing both maximal and submaximal exercise capacities, is crucial for optimizing disease management in Fontan patients. No full text
Aim: To develop an alternative drug molecule design to fludarabine which is commonly used in chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Methods: The molecular properties and biological activities of the drug molecules were determined using Molinspiration software. We investigated the biological activity and drug properties of fludarabine by changing the positions of bioisosteres on the molecular structure. Results: In our studies of derivatives of the fludarabine drug molecule, we obtained data by adding different structures to the Y part without changing the X structure (F) of fludarabine. We have used the abbreviation 'M' to refer to the molecules in these experiments. We predict that the M6 derivative of fludarabine will have higher ion channel modulator, kinase and protease activity compared to fludarabine. We predict that the M15 derivative of fludarabine will have higher G- protein coupled receptors, ion channel modulator, kinase, and protease and enzyme inhibition activity compared to fludarabine. In our experiments with fludarabine derivatives, we have experimented by binding different molecules to both the X and Y structures of fludarabine at the same time. We have used the abbreviation 'C' to refer to the molecules in these experiments. In these experiments, we did not achieve higher biological activity than fludarabine. Conclusions: The results suggest that this newly designed M15 derivative of fludarabine molecule may be a better antileukemic drug molecules in the future and may be useful for further drug molecule development research in medical biochemistry, chemistry and pharmacology

Dielectric size optimization for high power density in large-scale triboelectric nanogenerators

    Get PDF
Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have emerged as a promising technology to harvest electrical energy from natural motions such as human movement, wind, and water flow. Although TENGs show significant potential in small-scale applications, developing large-scale TENGs capable of generating high power remains a significant challenge. Several factors that can affect the performance of large-scale TENGs are being investigated to overcome this challenge, including the size and configuration of dielectric materials. This study optimizes dielectrics regarding surface area, thickness, and multicell configuration to improve harvested electrical power density in large-scale TENGs. In the studies, glass fiber was used as the positive dielectric, and multipurpose white silicone was used as the negative dielectric because of their high tribo-potential, durability, and easy accessibility. In the size optimization phase, dielectric thicknesses and surface areas that provide the maximum power density were determined. Subsequently, horizontal and vertical multicell configurations were examined to efficiently integrate size-optimized dielectrics. The results reveal that large-scale TENGs with vertical multicell configurations can achieve high and usable energy density for electronics. The findings provide valuable insight into the development of large-scale TENGs with advanced power generation capabilities.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) [121M608]; Scientific and Technological Research Council of Tuerkiye (TUBIdot;TAK)This work was supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) under project number 121M608.Open access funding provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Tuerkiye (TUB & Idot;TAK)

    No full text
Valeriana alanyense a new species to science from Southwestern of Turkey, is described and illustrated. The new species exhibits affinities to V. speluncaria and it differs from it in certain morphological characteristics: leaf shape and siZe, elongated stems and smaller corolla length. Geographical distribution at lower altitudes also sets it significantly from V. speluncaria. A comprehensive description, photos, information regarding its habitat and ecology, comparisons to related species, a distribution map, and conservation status are additionally considered. Moreover, morphological characteriZations of V. alanyense and V. speluncaria were supported by using the ISSR PCR technique in molecular analyses. For molecular analyses, six ISSR primers that gave the most polymorphic band profiles for the Valeriana genus were selected among a total of twenty-five primers. As a result of PCR performed with the six selected ISSR primers, a total of 65 band profiles ranging from 250bp to 1200bp were seored. According to the obtained band profile scores and the constructed dendogram analysis, V. alanyense and V. speluncaria can be separated from each other at the species level. This result supports the data obtained from morphological analysis. Copyright © 2024 Magnolia Press

Despite being a relatively new technology, low-cost 3D printing has exhibited a significant impact on many facets of daily life. 3D printing has gained its popularity due to its ease of designing, quick prototyping, and waste reduction. In this study, we synthesized CeO2/BaMoO4 nanocomposite and characterize it with UV-vis, XRD, and SEM. Band gap of CeO2/BaMoO4 was found as 3.17 eV, showing an excellent semiconductor behavior. We also fabricated affordable 3D-printed working electrodes for application in dopamine hydrochloride detection. CeO2/BaMoO4 were modified onto 3D-printed electrodes and commercially purchased screen-printed electrodes to compare its applicability in dopamine detection. Electroactive surface areas were enhanced by addition of CeO2/BaMoO4. In linear range of 5-1000 mu M, limit of detection values were found as 4.52 mu M and 2.77 mu M for CeO2:BaMoO4/SPE and CeO2:BaMoO4/3DPE biosensors, respectively. Sensitivity was calculated as 8.7285 and 0.3142 A/M.cm(2) for CeO2:BaMoO4/SPE and CeO2:BaMoO4/3DPE, respectively. Both devices have shown significant reproducibility, repeatability and selectivity.TUBITAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Funding Program [122Z293]This publication has been produced, benefiting from the TUBITAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Funding Program (Project No. 122Z293)

Multi-image encryption scheme using cross-plane coupling permutation and plain-by-plain wave diffusion

    No full text
Images contain a wealth of visual information, are susceptible to unauthorized access due to their vulnerability and sensitivity. This paper designs a novel multi-image encryption scheme for protecting the privacy of images of different sizes and types. Initially, a 2D memristive hyperchaotic map (2D-MHM) is designed and subjected to various dynamic analyses and randomness evaluations. The results demonstrate that the proposed map possesses an exceptionally large parameter space, high Lyapunov exponent and sample entropy, and has successfully passed the entire suite of NIST test, verifying its feasibility for confidential communication. Then we present a multi-image encryption scheme combining cross-plane coupling permutation and plain-by-plain wave diffusion to realize random exchange and global variation of pixels in different planes. The performance evaluation and numerical analysis demonstrate that the scheme is resilient against multifarious types of attacks, possesses great security while effectively enhancing encryption efficiency. Finally, the proposed scheme is compared with advanced algorithms and its application in healthcare is discussed, exhibiting its superiority in multiple aspects.National Natural Science Foundation of Chinahttps://doi.org/10.13039/501100001809 [62366014]; National Natural Science Foundation of China [20232BAB202008]; Jiangxi Provincial Natural Science FoundationThis work was partially supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 62366014, and the Jiangxi Provincial Natural Science Foundation under Grant 20232BAB202008
