    Example report about the life in the African village area : One example in the Republic of Uganda

    I performed volunteer activity of the elementary school administration in a village of the western part of Republic of Uganda for 4 months in 2005. I spent the time in the same schedule and ate the same things as a boarding student during the activity period. The living standard there was under the absolute poverty line obviously when I estimated an expenditure amount, but I was able to enjoy it without any problem. Based on experience of this time, I provide a one example about the life in the village part in Africa.2005年9月から12月末までの4か月,アフリカ・ウガンダ共和国西部の村で,小学校運営のボランティア活動を行った.活動期間中は寄宿生と同じスケジュールで,同じものを食べて過ごした.支出金額を推計すると,明らかに絶対的貧困ラインを下回っていた.この時の経験に基づき,アフリカの農村部における生活についての一事例を提供する.departmental bulletin pape

    2020年度から「国境を越えた「仮想反転授業」による留学前教育に関する実証研究」をスタートさせた。本研究推進の一環として、留学生出自国の大学生が国境を越えた「仮想反転授業」という学習スタイルを如何に捉えているのかを明らかにするための基礎資料を収集するために、アンケート調査をオンラインで実施した。データに対する基礎分析の結果から、約8割の被検者がインターネット利用において何らかの不安を抱えながらも、スマートフォンに代表されるスマートデバイスやその上で動作するツール、サービスを学習活動への有効活用について積極的に捉えているなどの知見が得られた。今後はこれらの知見を踏まえながら、さらに詳細な分析を行い、本実証研究を推進したい。From 2020, we have started empirical research on pre-overseas education by cross-border" virtual flipped classroom". As part of the promotion of this research, we have conducted an online questionnaire survey in order to collect basic materials to clarify how university students in their home countries perceive the learning style of cross-border "virtual flipped classroom". From the results of basic analysis of the data, we got the pointer that about 80% of the subjects have some concerns about using the Internet, but they can effectively utilize smart devices such as smartphones, the tools and services that operate on them and take a proactive approach for learning activities.     Community-based off-campus learning classes are expected to revitalize the community by allowing students to participate in community activities. You can promote your contribution to the local community. On the other hand, there are many problems with regional collaboration type off-campus learning classes, such as regional organizations that receive classes, variations in student motivation, class time frames, budgets, and personnel constraints. It is believed that the importance of continuing community-based off-campus learning classes will continue to increase in the future.地域連携型学外学習授業は、地域にとっては学生が地域活動に参加することでの地域活性化の期待、学生にとっては地域でのフィールドワークによる視野の拡大、大学・教員にとっては地域連携の強化、地域貢献のアピールを図ることができる。  一方で、地域連携型学外学習授業には授業の受け皿となる地域組織、学生のモチベーションのバラつき、授業時間枠や予算、人員での制約など多くの課題が存在している。 地域連携型学外学習授業を持続していくことの重要性は今後とも強まっていくものと思われる。departmental bulletin pape

    A Study on Constructing a Music Performance Curriculum in the Teacher Training Course

    21世紀型学力の育成としての大学での保育士・幼稚園教諭・小学校教員養成課程における音楽実技カリキュラム構築へのコンセプトを検証することを目的とする。  検証の結果、音楽理論や読譜スキルと結びつけた演奏法、教師による模範演奏や助言、ワークシートの記述や教師・生徒間のディスカッションを通した目標の明確化、自信と満足感を伴った自己形成につながる音楽実技カリキュラム構築のコンセプトが導かれた。The purpose of this study is to verify the concept of constructing a music performance curriculum in the college training course for nursery teachers, kindergarten teachers, and elementary school teachers for the cultivating 21st-century skills.    As a result of verification, the concept of music performance curriculum consisted of performance methods linked to music theory and music reading skills, model performances and advice from teachers, clarification of goals through writing worksheets and discussions between teachers and students, and self-development with confidence and satisfaction was led.departmental bulletin pape

    Japan’s Higher Education Policy in the 2010s: Case studies of the free education and the research and development

    日本の2010年代になされた官邸主導の政策形成のうち,高等教育分野にかかわる事例として教育のいわゆる無償化政策と研究開発政策をとりあげた。無償化は高校,幼児教育,高等教育(修学支援新制度)の順に,それぞれ民主党,公明党,自民党が主導して実現した。非正規雇用が雇用者の4割弱となるなかで,教育費を社会的に負担するこれまでの方式が機能しがたくなり,公費による人材の再生産に着手されたとみえる。研究開発政策はイノベーション政策への展開を民主党が構想し,自民党が実現して内閣府が強化された。現在は10兆円の基金による大学支援が準備されている。革新的なイノベーションをめざすハイリスクな研究開発事業には失敗の可能性があり,それを避けようとして革新性を低めれば事業の意味が乏しくなる。そのことを直視した政策展開が望まれる。Among Japan's cabinet-led policy making in the 2010s, this paper focuses on the cases of the free education policy and the research and development policy in the field of higher education. The free education policy was realized in the following order: high school, early childhood education, and higher education, led by the Democratic Party, the New Komeito, and the Liberal Democratic Party, respectively. In the era when non-regular employment accounted for about 40% of all employees, the conventional method of paying for a part of household education expenses to the public has become less effective. It seems that the government started to reproduce human resources with public funds. The research and development policy aimed to expand into an innovation policy, and was conceived by the Democratic Party and the Liberal Democratic Party. The latter realized it and strengthened the Cabinet Office. A fund of 10 trillion yen is currently being prepared to support universities. High-risk research and development aimed at revolutionary innovation has the inherent possibility of failure. However, avoiding the risk of failure will reduce the innovativeness and make the policy meaningless. The policy development based on this premise is expected.departmental bulletin pape

    An Educational Perspective on Studies of Intangible Cultural Heritage: With a Focus on the Concept of Practical Intelligence

    本稿は, 教育研究における「実践知(Practical Intelligence)」の概念を手がかりに, 教育の視点から行う無形文化遺産研究の意義について考察するものである。ここでは, 文化遺産の保護・登録をめぐる活動が近年とりわけ活発な中国の事例を中心に検討する。本稿は, 文化人類学的なケーススタディなので, 筆者がこれまで20年余り調査研究してきた中国西北地域の伝統演劇・秦腔の状況を具体事例として議論を進めたい。  中国では, 文化大革命時代に排除の対象であった伝統的無形文化を文化遺産として保護・継承の対象にするという文化政策の大転換を行い, 21世紀に入ってから数多くの無形文化遺産を登録してきたので, 文化遺産研究は近年大いに注目されている。しかし, 日本と比べても文化遺産保護の歴史が短い中国では, 政策的矛盾も多々あり, 無形文化遺産の継承過程にも少なからず影を落としている。2006年に国家レベルの無形文化遺産となった秦腔の場合も, 決して例外ではない。  本稿は, 無形文化遺産に関わる人材育成環境に注目することで, 状況改善に役立つ新たな視点を提供しようと試みるものである。その際, 熟達者(エキスパート)の持つ知識や技能を意味する実践知の概念は, 教育環境のあり方を具体的に検討することを可能にしてくれる。この概念は, これまで教育研究や経営学研究の文脈でおもに用いられてきたが, 本稿ではそれが無形文化遺産研究にも役立つということを示したい。This paper provides a new perspective on studies of Chinese intangible cultural heritage by focusing on the educational concept of practical intelligence. People’s Republic of China is a country that diametrically reversed its cultural policy of destruction and exclusion of traditional cultures during revolutionary period to their protection and transmission in the post-revolutionary period. Being influence by UNESCO’s Convention for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2006, China has registered many traditional intangible cultures as intangible cultural heritage since the beginning of 21st century and has strengthened heritage protection policies. However, there are yet many serious issues of heritage protection and transmission because of China’s relative lack of experience. Taking the situation into consideration, this paper shows that more attention to the process of human resource (bearers of intangible cultural heritage) development should be paid to improve the situation. As an anthropological case study, this paper ethnographically examines the example of Qin opera, a regional theater in Northwestern China registered as intangible cultural heritage that I have researched for the past two decades, to illuminate in details how such an educational perspective can be inspiring and meaningful for future research in the field.departmental bulletin pape

    Gender issues as seen in the Kore ha keihi de ochimasen! novel series Unconscious bias in the workplace

    本稿は,青木祐子の小説シリーズ『これは経費で落ちません! 経理部の森若さん』をジェンダーの視点から考察したものである。物語の舞台となるのは古くさい慣習の残る石鹸メーカーで,主人公の森若さんをはじめ,バックオフィス部門で働く女性が数多く登場する。作中では,彼女たちの職場での日々が描かれ,ジェンダー・バイアスに関する言動もはしばしに見られる。本稿では,3つのエピソードを取り上げ,その背景や問題点について明らかにした。職場におけるジェンダー・バイアスは,無意識のうちに身につき,気がつかないまま言葉や行動に表れてしまうものが多い。一見すると好意的で親切な言動が,相手を傷つけ働く意欲を奪うこともある。職場における女性活躍を推し進めるためには,「アンコンシャス・バイアス(無意識の偏見)」の存在を意識し,固定観念を打破していかねばならない。This paper considers Yuko Aoki’s Kore ha keihi de ochimasen! Keiribu no Moriwaka-san (“We cannot pay you for this: Ms. Moriwaka of Accounting Department”) novel series from a gender perspective. Set in an old-fashioned soap manufacturer, the novels feature a number of women working in the back office, including the main character Ms. Moriwaka. It depicts their daily lives in the workplace, and speech and behavior related to gender bias appears occasionally. This paper considers three episodes from the novel series, elucidating their backgrounds and related issues. Gender bias in the workplace is unconscious and may be expressed in one’s words and behavior without even noticing it. Speech and behavior that appears at first glance to be friendly and sympathetic could be hurtful to others and weaken their job motivation. To promote women in the workplace, it is essential to be conscious of the presence of unconscious bias and to break down preconceptions.departmental bulletin pape

    Frances Evelyn Greville, Countess of Warwick (1861-1938): the philosophy and practice of women’s agricultural and horticultural education

    This paper is concerned with life history/life geography of the Countess of Warwick, Frances Evelyn Greville (1861-1938), also known as ‘Daisy’. Lady Warwick’s life was a paradox: her luxuriant aristocratic lifestyle was increasingly at odds with her conversion to socialism from around 1905, and the left-wing political activity that she undertook for the rest of her life. This paper looks at three different landscapes with which Lady Warwick was closely associated: Easton Lodge, Warwick Castle and Studley Castle. This paper then focuses on Lady Warwick’s philosophy and practice in relation to women’s agricultural and horticultural education. She opened the Lady Warwick Hostel in Reading in 1898, before developing Lady Warwick’s College at Studley Castle in 1903. The college offered a high standard of horticultural practical training and education for women. Finally, this paper introduces the Japanese student, Taki Handa, who studied at Lady Warwick College from 1906 to 1908.     How do Newspaper Articles Represent Ethnic Towns : Case Study of Korea Town in Ikuno-ku, Osaka City

    The purpose of this study is to analyze newspaper articles about ethnic towns in Japanese society. As a representative example of an ethnic town, this study uses "Ikuno Korea Town" in Ikuno Ward, Osaka City, as a case study. The survey covered articles in the Asahi Shimbun and the Yomiuri Shimbun. The analysis revealed that the number of newspaper articles on Ikuno Korea Town increased in the 2000s. In this paper, through text-mining analysis, we examined the pattern of the words associated with Ikuno Korea Town in the newspapers. As a result, words that evoke the image of Ikuno Korea Town as a town of Koreans were extracted from many articles on Ikuno Korea Town. Specifically, they were words related to "multicultural coexistence" such as Koreans, history of Korea Town, ethnic festivals, and ethnic education. In addition, words related to tourism, such as shopping streets, food culture, and the Korean boom,were also found. Noteworthy in the analysis of this paper is Ikuno Korea Town, which appears in articles on political situations and sporting events. Among them, we found a pattern of newspaper articles in which "Korean residents in Japan are asked to comment on the political situation in South and North Korea.本研究の目的は、日本社会におけるエスニックタウンのイメージについて、新聞記事をとおして分析することである。本研究では、エスニックタウンの代表的な例として、大阪市生野区にある「生野コリアタウン」を分析した。分析の結果、2000年代以降に生野コリアタウンについての新聞記事が増加していることがわかった。そして、テキストマイニングによる分析の結果からは、新聞での生野コリアタウンのイメージとそのパターンを見出すことができた。departmental bulletin pape

    How English Sounds Are Treated in Electrical Dictionaries?

    電子辞書に入っている英語辞書は音声が再生できるものもあり, 発音記号が読めない学習者にとっては, 発音の手がかりとなっている。収録音声については「ネイティブ発音」または「合成音声(TTS)」と表示されており, この音声と発音記号の関係を確認した。発音記号では複数の表記があっても, 聞くことができる音声は1種類である。その音声は, 米音が多いが, 英米の中間的な母音になっている例があった。実際に, 米英で顕著な差が見られる母音/æ ɑ:/, /ɑ ɔ/ および /æ ɑ ʌ/や, 語末で/r/の音色を含む母音/ɚ/などを音響分析すると, フォルマントの位置関係が曖昧であることが確認できた。辞書には, 米英で異なる発音記号が掲載されている語もあるので, 両方の音声が聞けるようになると, 学習者には違いがわかりやすいと思われる。また, 特に初級レベルの語彙に関しては, 学習者のモデルとなる音声の収録が望ましい。Using acoustic analyses, this paper aims to investigate the gap between phonetic notation and English sounds in electronic dictionaries, and make recommendations to the dictionary makers in Japan. A total of eleven electronic dictionaries, containing different levels such as elementary, intermediate, advanced and professional, were chosen. The results revealed that it was desirable for electronic dictionaries to play both American and British sounds and all the phonetic notations should be played in transcription order. The results also showed that there was a big gap between phonetic transcription and kana-transcription, which should be removed in elementary-level dictionaries. Finally, some improvements for the electrical dictionaries in accordance with technical innovation were recommended to manufacturers.departmental bulletin pape
