    Get PDF
This study investigated the mediating roles of supervisory relationships and leader-subordinate empowerment expectations (LSEEs) in the relationship between paternalistic leadership and teachers' quality of work life. Using a quantitative, non-experimental correlational design, data were collected from 400 public elementary school teachers across four major divisions (South Cotabato, General Santos City, Sarangani, and Koronadal) in Region XII, Philippines. The study employed a stratified random sampling and survey methodology. Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, and path analysis. Results revealed significant positive correlations between paternalistic leadership and three variables: supervisory relationships, empowerment expectations, and quality of work life. Furthermore, both supervisory relationships and empowerment expectations demonstrated positive correlations with quality of work life. Path analysis confirmed that supervisory relationships and empowerment expectations served as partial mediators in the relationship between paternalistic leadership and quality of work life. These findings indicate that school heads' paternalistic leadership style can enhance teachers' quality of work life through improved supervisory relationships and increased empowerment expectations. The study contributes to understanding leadership dynamics in educational settings and provides practical implications for school administration and teacher development. SDG Indicator: #4 (Quality Education)  Article visualizations

L2 PROFESSORS’ PERSPECTIVE ON THE CREATION AND USE OF OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

    Get PDF
Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching materials available online and for free and with as few limitations to access as possible. These materials offer a wide range of advantages in terms of availability, adaptability, and motivation. However, there are certain issues that must be addressed to ensure their widespread use, including funding, incentives, digital competence, or time and effort invested in their creation, among others. The purpose of this study is to survey L2 university professors to discover the main benefits and obstacles that this kind of materials poses for these professionals, being this group of subjects one that enjoys great autonomy to select class materials outside traditional textbooks. The ultimate goal of the study was to compare these findings with previous academic literature in order to observe if there have been any shifts in how OER are perceived. The findings reveal that while advantages traditionally associated with OER persist, there seems to be a shift regarding the obstacles faced by professionals in the field of education, with some disadvantages losing importance while new ones appear to be gaining prominence.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
Numerous studies have highlighted the strong connection between language learning motivation and the use of learning strategies (e.g., Oxford, 1989; Chamot et al., 1999). This study investigates the level of motivation among students at Long My Continuing Education Center in Hau Giang Province, in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam, in learning English, as well as the strategies they employ. Also, it explores the correlation between their motivation and strategy use. Using a descriptive research approach, the study surveyed 70 of 10th-Grade students from the Center. Data were collected through a Motivation questionnaire (adapted from Schmidt et al., 1996) and a Strategy Use questionnaire (adapted from Oxford, 1990). The results indicated that the students’ motivation was generally high, with extrinsic motivation significantly surpassing intrinsic motivation, which remained at an average level. Regarding strategy use, students applied learning strategies at an average level. Moreover, a strong correlation was found between their motivation and the strategies they used. Based on these findings, the study offers several practical recommendations aimed at enhancing both students' motivation and strategy use, ultimately improving their English language learning outcomes.  Article visualizations

ASSESSMENT SCORE POLLUTION AS CATALYST OF POOR QUALITY OF STUDENTS' PERFORMANCE

    Get PDF
The present learners' dissatisfaction with their assessment scores in terms of their use, inferences, and educational improvements has urged many facilitators and examiners to train and prepare examinees to complete their assessments. The demand to raise assessment scores has resulted in conditions and practices that pollute and contaminate the reliability and validity of assessment scores. This study, therefore, seeks to examine the factors perceived as contributors to assessment score pollution. The study employed a descriptive survey to gather data and analyzed using means and standard deviations. A sample size of 248 teachers who had access to an Android device and internet connectivity were purposefully selected for this study. The results confirmed that factors related to assessment preparation, assessment administration, and external factors (parents and community) were the primary causes of assessment score pollution in the district. The researchers recommended that the District Education Service directorates should organize in-service training for teachers on testing procedures. Parents and the community should also be educated on the consequences of test pollution through parents’ association meetings and seminars by the district education office. Authentic and differentiated assessments were also recommended to replace the current standardized assessment practices.  Article visualizations
