EDUCATION THROUGH CINEMA: "BEATING HEARTS ON THE DESK
In the context of the 5th Panhellenic Conference on "Educational play and art in education and culture", from the thematic section "Educational cultural programmes", I was given the opportunity to deal with the topic "Education through cinema: "Hits on the Desk" in terms of educational events. In the development of the film, I used the following themes: teaching and education, educational system, educational administration, evaluation, equipment, curriculum, behaviour-discipline, socio-political environment, family environment, profession and staff (the duration of each educational phenomenon). The film is set in the early 1960s and stars: A. Vougiouklaki, D. Papamichael, D. Konstantinaras, D. Papagiannopoulos, G. D. The music is by M. Hadjidakis and the script-direction: A. Sakellariou. Set in a wealthy area of Athens, Filothei, the film presents the carefree life, attitudes and reactions of the schoolgirls in a realistic mood. This era is a transitional period before the reform of G. Papandreou - E. Papanoutsou, where a period of intense political conflict with an impact on education begins. This period hides an "innocence" and carefreeness in student life. The film "Knocking at the Desk" is a continuation of the film "The Wood came out of Paradise" of the 1950s, where there are, we could say, small changes in the school process. At the same time, there is an improvement in certain aspects of educational reality. The film "Knocking on the Desk" is an emotional film that has also been shot in Turkish, has sold 591,675 tickets in Greece and was the second most popular film among the cinema audience in the period '63-'64. STUDENT EXPERIENCES AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG BACHELOR OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS
The study determined the impact of students' experiences on their academic achievement among 330 BPE Students at the University of Mindanao, Davao City. A quantitative research design using the descriptive-correlational technique was applied. In interpreting the data, mean, standard deviation and Spearman rho were utilized to determine the significant relationship between the two variables. Results revealed that the level of students' experiences and academic performance were very high. The study found that there was a significant relationship between students' experiences and the academic performance of BPE students. This implies that students are more likely to achieve academically at higher levels when they are exposed to a range of learning experiences. Nevertheless, students' experiences and academic performance among BPE Students helped them determine their strengths and weaknesses that would impact their learning journey. EVALUATION OF THE CURRENT STATE AND PROPOSED MEASURES FOR ENSURING THE QUALITY OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS AT MEMBER UNIVERSITIES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DA NANG, VIETNAM
This study evaluates the current state of physical education (PE) at three member universities of the University of Da Nang: University of Science and Technology, University of Economics, and University of Education. A comprehensive survey was conducted on 610 students and 200 administrators and lecturers to assess the effectiveness of PE management. The results indicate several challenges, including outdated infrastructure, lack of personalized curriculum planning, low student awareness, and limited participation in extracurricular activities. To address these issues, seven specific measures were developed. These include curriculum reform focusing on competency, enhancing the qualifications and pedagogical skills of lecturers, upgrading facilities, strengthening links between school sports and PE, applying technology in PE assessment and planning, and promoting awareness through school campaigns. All proposed measures were assessed for their necessity and feasibility using a 4-point Likert scale and received high ratings. The study offers empirical insights and practical suggestions to improve the quality of PE programs and align them with global standards of sustainability, health, and technology. GAZA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS' PERCEPTION AND PRODUCTION OF ENGLISH LEXICAL STRESS: REASONS AND FACTORS
English word stress has been long considered a problematic area for those learning and speaking English as a foreign language (Waniek-Klimczak, 2014). In fact, English lexical stress has not received adequate attention from Palestinian researchers. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine Gaza University students' recognition and oral production of English lexical stress. A lexical stress recognition test and a production test were administered to a group of students, and two semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 students and three instructors. Results indicated that the students' recognition of English word stress patterns was very low. Moreover, the interview data revealed the reasons behind the students' poor recognition of English syllable stress, such as lack of teacher instruction and assessment of English word stress, due to their beliefs in the unimportance of English word stress to comprehension. Finally, the study recommended that the English linguistics instructors at A-Aqsa University should focus on conscious instruction and assessment of English syllable stress so as to raise the students' awareness of syllable stress. THE IMPACT OF LINGUISTIC, STRUCTURAL, AND AFFECTIVE PROFICIENCY ON ACADEMIC WRITING CHALLENGES AMONG TERTIARY STUDENTS
This study investigates the impact of academic writing proficiency (AWP) on its associated challenges (AWD) from the perspectives of tertiary English majors. A cross-sectional correlational design was employed, using a survey questionnaire to collect data from 325 final-year English majors at a private university. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multi-linear regression to examine the relationships between students’ linguistic, structural and affective proficiency (LP, SP and AP) in AWP and AWD. The results revealed that students had a moderate level of AWP and faced medium-level challenges in writing. All three sub-elements of AWP (LP, SP, and AP) demonstrated significant negative correlations with AWD, with LP showing the strongest negative correlation. Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that LP, SP, and AP collectively explained 37% of the variance in AWD. The higher the level all three predictors were, the lower the level of AWD was, confirming the negative predictive effect of LP, SP, and AP on AWD. These findings highlight the importance of linguistic, structural, and affective proficiency in mitigating challenges in academic writing for tertiary English majors. Article visualizations
THE ROLE OF PROVERBS AS TIME-FILLER ACTIVITIES IN LANGUAGE TEACHING: A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS
This article investigates the pedagogical relevance and effectiveness of using proverbs as time-filler activities in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. Drawing on scholarly perspectives and a real-life classroom case study, the study critically examines the benefits, challenges, and strategies for integrating proverbs meaningfully into language lessons. While some scholars, such as Litovkina, criticize the superficial use of proverbs without context or instructional purpose, others highlight their value in enhancing vocabulary, grammar, cultural awareness, and critical thinking. The study emphasizes that proverbs, when used interactively and with appropriate scaffolding, can serve as versatile tools for reinforcing language skills and promoting cultural engagement. A qualitative methodology, including literature review, case study, and comparative analysis, is used to support the findings. The article also discusses the importance of teachers’ paremiological competence. Through the classroom example involving the proverb “Where there is a will, there is a way,” the study illustrates how proverbs can foster engagement and cultural reflection when used adaptively. Ultimately, the article argues that proverbs can be effective time-fillers if they are employed with clear pedagogical intent and cultural sensitivity. Article visualizations
DOES PEDAGOGIC TRANSLATION PROMOTE LINGUISTISC AND INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCE?
In today’s world, globalized more than ever, intercultural understanding has become the bedrock of peaceful and successful communication across borders and a crucial element of language education. Translation activities naturally combine language ability and cultural awareness. This paper investigates whether Moroccan EFL teachers in the CPGE (Preparatory Classes for Engineering and Management Schools) believe that pedagogic translation fosters intercultural awareness among their students. To that end, this paper draws on both theoretical background and quantitative data collected from CPGE teachers. The review of literature provided in this paper provides theoretical evidence to believe that pedagogic translation enhances cultural understanding. However, the statistical data collected from the teachers does not consolidate those beliefs. This paper concludes that even though pedagogic translation has been advocated in major theoretical studies as a promoter of intercultural understanding, the results from the CPGE teachers in this study do not support that assumption. HEALTH NEEDS OF EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION LEARNERS
This paper explores the health needs of early childhood education (ECE) learners with special educational needs and identifies effective strategies for integrating health support within ECE programs. A search of databases identified nine relevant studies that examined various aspects of health-related challenges faced by children with special needs in ECE settings. The findings reveal that these children often experience sensory, mobility, and medical challenges that require tailored educational interventions. Effective strategies for addressing these health needs include the integration of health services into educational frameworks, professional development for educators and collaboration between families, health professionals, and schools. Furthermore, the use of multimedia technologies and individualized health plans has been shown to enhance learning outcomes for children with special educational needs. The review highlights significant gaps in policy and resource allocation, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration and advocacy for the inclusion of health support in ECE programs. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on inclusive education by proposing actionable strategies for enhancing the health and well-being of children with special needs, ensuring that they have equitable access to quality early education.
