PROCRASTINATION AND SELF-ESTEEM AS PREDICTORS OF SELF-HANDICAPPING AMONG DEAN’S LISTERS

    Get PDF
This descriptive-correlational research delved into the interplay among procrastination, self-esteem, and self-handicapping among dean’s listers of teacher education students, with a focus on self-handicapping tendencies and academic performance. Survey questionnaires served as the primary data collection method, enabling the assessment of procrastination and self-esteem levels through descriptive statistics—multiple regression analysis identified predictors of self-handicapping while Pearson correlation coefficient analysis elucidated the relationships between variables. The findings unveiled neutral levels of procrastination and low levels of self-handicapping. Furthermore, it is highlighted that procrastination and self-esteem are significant predictors of procrastination. The study proves the link between procrastination and self-esteem as significant predictors of self-handicapping among dean’s listers. Recommendations entail considering situational factors, individual differences, and the multi-dimensional nature of self-esteem, while future research should examine the connection between academic success, peer relations, and identity to develop focused interventions for promoting adaptive coping skills and resiliency.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
This study examines the impact of Vovinam in the Physical Education program at Da Nang University on students' physical development. Vovinam was incorporated into the compulsory Physical Education curriculum to enhance fitness indicators, with the participation of students from two groups: the experimental group learning the improved Vovinam program and the control group following the old curriculum. Pre-experiment fitness tests showed no significant statistical differences between the two groups (p > 0.05). However, after implementing the improved Vovinam program, the experimental group showed significant improvements in various fitness tests, including strength, speed, endurance, and reflexes, with p-values less than 0.05, indicating the program's effectiveness. Although the control group showed minor improvements, the changes were not as significant as those in the experimental group, suggesting that the improved Vovinam program had a clear effect on enhancing physical fitness and skills. The study recommends continuing the development of Vovinam in university physical education to not only improve student health but also preserve and promote the cultural values of Vietnam.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
For decades, education professionals and researchers have been reflecting on the measures that need to be implemented to promote learners’ success and the factors that encourage engagement in the classroom for all students. Learners’ engagement in language classes is now seen as a real challenge in teaching and a necessary condition for learning. The aim of this research is to contribute to a better understanding of the factors that affect the engagement and performance of learners in the EFL classroom. The survey, therefore, is going to examine what this engagement represents, as well as the factors that encourage it, and the implications of this engagement for education as well as learners’ performance, in order to be able to apply it in the language classrooms. In language learning environments, the level of engagement appears to be linked to learners’ performance. This research was modelled on a standard framework that treats academic engagement in terms of affective, behavioural and cognitive dimensions. In addition, this essentially interpretative and descriptive study used a mixed methodology for data collection and analysis. The results highlight: the influence of the learning context and the learners’ age on their behavioural, cognitive and social engagement as well as their performance, and the influence of the learners’ gender on their cognitive engagement. The findings thus make it possible to highlight the mediating role of engagement, which occurs between the variables of age, the learning context and performance, and to highlight the positive effects of engagement in terms of behavioural, cognitive and social dimensions on learners’ performance in language classes. Without being able to generalise, this study also provides a better understanding of the quality and evolution of learners' academic engagement in EFL classrooms.  Article visualizations

The main aim of this research was to explore intervention strategies used to enhance social skills in learners with Emotional and Behavioural Disorder in selected regular primary schools in Kayole zone, Embakasi sub-county, Nairobi County, Kenya. The study was guided by Vygotsky's theory of social development. It employed a mixed-method research approach, adopting a descriptive research design. Questionnaires and face-to-face interviews were used as the main instruments of data collection. The targeted population was 102, which included 12 school administrators and 90 teachers teaching in the zone. The study utilized a simple random sampling technique to select two schools and the educationists who participated in the study. The sample size of the study comprised 16 teachers and 8 administrators. Qualitative data was analysed thematically and then presented narratively. Quantitative data were coded and fed into SPSS software for analysis. It was reported using frequencies, descriptive statistics, graphs, and charts. The study concluded that teachers appreciated conventional strategies but did not adequately utilize them. This was mainly due to poor training and unfavourable teacher-to-learner ratio. The study recommended that teachers, through in-service training, need to be provided with better training on social skills interventions in order to build their confidence in these techniques so that they actually implement them within their classrooms. The study also recommended more emphasis on the Guidance and Counselling department through employing trained counselors who can assist in addressing emotional and behavioral challenges by learners.  Article visualizations

This research addresses the educational inclusion actions implemented by the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM) to favor the learning of students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), based on the experiences of teachers who have worked directly with them. Using a qualitative methodology, we inquired about the knowledge, perceptions and pedagogical strategies used by teachers to address the needs of this population. The findings reflect that teachers identify recurring difficulties in terms of sustained attention, activity planning and emotional management. In response, they employ resources such as task division, the use of visual supports and technological tools, such as Blackboard and Teams. Likewise, they recognize the psychoeducational support provided by the Center for Education and Human Development as fundamental in the student's academic and emotional process. However, they also express a lack of specific training in educational inclusion. The study highlights that promoting inclusive education for students with ADHD requires a broad institutional approach that includes teacher training, methodological adaptations and awareness-raising actions. These measures are essential to ensure equity, permanence and academic development of neurodivergent students in higher education.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
This study assessed teachers' perceptions of the integration of technology into the learning process and its availability in the preschool learning environment at a public elementary school in the province of Cebu, Philippines, for the school year 2025–2026, using a descriptive correlational research design. 54 teachers completed the adopted questionnaire, which served as the primary data collection tool. The study employed descriptive and inferential statistics, including the weighted mean, standard deviation, and Pearson’s r, for data analysis. Results revealed that the respondents had very positive perceptions of technology integration in terms of their beliefs, and also positive perceptions of their knowledge and attitudes towards technology integration. On the other hand, the respondents claimed that technology resources are sometimes available in the learning process. Moreover, there was a weakly significant correlation between the respondents’ perception of technology integration and the availability of technology resources in the preschool learning environment. Hence, school administrators need to ensure sufficient technology resources for teachers’ utilization in the teaching-learning process.  Article visualizations
