    Get PDF
Like other pre-colonial African societies, traditional education among the Kabiyè of northern Togo was the means by which the group's fundamental values were formed and instilled. As such, it could not be considered a private, personal, or religious privilege. It was a collective act, a task incumbent upon all members of society, so much so that one could say the entire society was involved in education. This education took place in a concrete and practical way, and the whole community participated in it in various forms. This study therefore aims to present the different phases of traditional education and their impact on the children of the Lama people from the final settlement of the ancestors on their ancestral site in the 17th century until the advent of European colonization in 1898. To achieve this objective, the methodological approach adopted relies on documentary research, including archival documents and a bibliography. Oral sources were also used, gathered through fieldwork conducted with key informants in Kabiyè, Lamba, Logba, and Tem regions.  Article visualizations

This study determined the relationship between sex, physical fitness factors, and volleyball skills among junior high school student-athletes from the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (DACs) in Davao City. Using a descriptive-correlational design, the study involved 60 volleyball players selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the mean, standard deviation, and Chi-square test of independence. Results revealed that both physical fitness and volleyball skills were at a moderate level, with males showing slightly higher performance than females. Among the physical fitness factors, speed and agility were very high, power and reaction time were high, while balance and coordination were low. Similarly, underarm serve and forearm pass were moderate, whereas overhand serve, smash, and blocking were low. A significant relationship was found between sex, physical fitness, and volleyball skills, indicating performance variation due to biological and physiological factors. Based on the findings, a Volleyball Fitness and Skill Enhancement Training Plan (VFSETP) was developed to address weak areas through a structured, gender-responsive, and progressive training approach anchored on Simpson’s Psychomotor Domain Theory and Ericsson’s Theory of Deliberate Practice.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
In response to the increasing importance of English as a global language, this study investigates the listening challenges, perceptions, and coping strategies of EFL students enrolled in General English Course 3 at a Vietnamese university. Focusing on linguistic, cognitive, affective, and external factors, the research employed a mixed-methods design using a 25-item questionnaire completed by 94 students and follow-up semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS, and qualitative data were thematically coded. Findings show that students struggle most with fast speech, unfamiliar vocabulary, diverse accents, and extended spoken texts. Affective barriers such as anxiety and low confidence further impede comprehension. While students recognize the importance of listening skills and are aware of useful strategies, their actual use of these strategies is limited and inconsistent. The study highlights key areas for pedagogical improvement and offers practical implications for enhancing listening instruction in tertiary EFL contexts.  Article visualizations

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN SCHOOLS: CHALLENGES IN THE ERA OF THE 4th INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

    Get PDF
This study explores the challenges faced by teachers and school principals in Greece when implementing the digital transformation, in the context of Education 4.0 and the 4th Industrial Revolution. The survey adopts a mixed methodological approach, combining quantitative data from 1,359 Primary and Secondary Education teachers with qualitative data from interviews with 20 principals from different regions of the country. The findings paint a complex picture. Technological infrastructure is generally considered adequate, but serious weaknesses are emerging in equipment maintenance, compatibility of new technologies and financing. Teacher training is considered inadequate and not adapted to real needs, with shortcomings in time, practical application and support. An important inhibiting factor is the resistance to change, mainly by a portion of teachers – especially older ones – due to fears, reservations or fatigue. On the contrary, managers emerge as agents of support and guidance, although they recognize the difficulties of their role. Issues such as data security, digital risks and the compatibility of new technologies with pedagogical practice appear as areas of intense concern. The research concludes that the digital transformation in Greek schools depends not only on equipment, but also on the human dimension: attitudes, skills, leadership and institutional support. A holistic approach is needed with investments in infrastructure, continuous training, institutional changes in the timetable and strengthening of educational leadership. Only in this way can an environment be created that allows the effective and sustainable integration of technologies into school practice.  Article visualizations

MAKING TEACHING AN ENVIABLE PROFESSION IN NIGERIA: THE NEW MANDATES FOR THE TEACHERS’ REGISTRATION COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (TRCN)

    Get PDF
Teaching is a very noble and rewarding profession. It is very important for nation building in its role in facilitating the process of building the knowledge and skills needed in all other professions. Teachers play a pivotal role in the entire educative process; imparting knowledge, skills, values and mentoring of learners. They equally instruct, guide and prepare the young generation for all-around and holistic mental, physical, cognitive, affective and psychomotor development. Notwithstanding these lucid and unassailable facts, teaching as a profession in Nigeria is still evolving because of its numerous challenges, like poor funding of the education sector, decaying infrastructure, and poor public perception of teachers. Despite these obvious challenges, making teaching enviable by ensuring that it is fully professionalized is akin to improving the quality of education and building public confidence in the teaching profession. This paper, therefore, explored the roles of TRCN in transforming teaching into an enviable profession, so as to make it attractive to its practitioners and the general public. Some of the responsibilities of TRCN are to regulate the teaching profession, set standards for teacher education and practice, and advocate for the welfare of teachers. By promoting teachers’ certification, continuous professional development, and public awareness, TRCN aims at enhancing the quality of education delivery and eventual elevation of the public status of teachers in Nigeria. The need to implement the National Policy on Education regarding internship for teachers and promulgate the law to establish the Nigeria Teachers’ Association, among others are to be vigorously pursued by TRCN, while teachers are being admonished to commit themselves to professionalism and prioritize their service above rewards, the government on its part should strive to invest more on the training and re-training of teachers.  Article visualizations
