私の英語教育実践における自律性
P(論文)In my first few years of teaching English, I noticed that many of my students were reticent and inert. This observation gave me careful thought that my students for some reason are not interested in English and indifferent to the subject they must study. Since that time, I have been searching for what could stagnate their learning process and reduce their motivation. The search for effective ways to motivate my students led me to the KUIS MA TESOL Program. Due to effective and deliberate learning in different courses, especially Learner Autonomy, I realized that I could help my students raise motivation by developing their autonomy. Before taking the course of Learner Autonomy I was rather skeptical and had an erroneous image of autonomy`s concept. However, in the course of time, the works of such great autonomy researchers as Benson (2001), Mynard (2015, 2021, 2023), Kato (2015), and Yamashita (2015) influenced me to make a discovery. In this paper, I will first present the correct definition of autonomy and give examples of some characteristics of autonomous learners based on Benson (2001) and Mynard (2021). Next, I will touch upon prerequisites for learner autonomy development in my teaching context. In conclusion, I will elucidate the implementation of four autonomy development innovations into teaching context to motivate the students to become more capable foreign language users.departmental bulletin pape
