Tourism as one of the most vulnerable sectors in terms of pandemic period in Georgia, Autonomous Republic of Ajara
In the modern world, tourism has become a term that is gaining wider meaning day by day. Years ago, in Georgia, tourism was considered as just a journey, but today tourism has acquired various meanings, including: cultural tourism, gambling tourism, maritime tourism, mountain resort, gastronomic tourism, wine tourism, eco-tourism, adventure, agritourism and others. Despite these many directions in the country, other types of tourism are developing and their individual aspects are also improving. The pandemic had a significant impact on the economic development of those countries, the significant part of the income of which was depended on tourism, and especially affected the coastal region of Ajara AR, where the main economic activity is related to tourism and the tourism season. The article is dedicated to considering the actual problems of tourism during the pandemic as a stress test for the economy and to analyze the positive aspects of this process. The results of the study will be significant for the business entities, as well as for governmental and non-governmental organizations, and for the scientific community and researchers
THE SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES AND ITS EFFECT ON FINANCIAL LEAKAGES OF STAR CLASSIFIED HOTELS IN ETHIOPIA.
The purpose of this study was to test the effects of sustainability practice on financial leakage.It has also aimed at to investigate the effect of the reduction of financial leakage on competitive advantage of star classified hotels. A quantitative and cross-sectional approach was applied. Data were collected from all 242 star classified hotels using a survey questionnaire. CFA and SEM were applied to validate and to test the structural model respectively. The major findings were the higher sustainability practices of these star classified hotels could not more likely to reduced financial leakage of the studied star classified hotel in Ethiopia. Albeit, this research has brought a valuable insight on dimensions of financial leakage and the degree of sustainability practices and its implication for the reduction of financial leakage of star classified hotels in the country. Therefore, hotels in Ethiopia should give due attention for better sustainability practices implementation
IMPACT OF PANDEMIC ON TOURISM INDUSTRY OF ASSAM, INDIA- WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK AND KAMAKHYA TEMPLE
Tourism contributes to the economy, socio-cultural transmission and adaptation between the people. On an average Assam experience more than 4 million tourists from across the world every year which generates an average revenue of more than Rs. 3.1 million. However the political and the pandemic scenario since October 2019, have left the entire tourism sector devastated which resulted to a loss of more than Rs. 300 crores. Since tourism has a dominant say in the entire economy of the region with innumerable people dependent on it, this paper has been intended to review and understand the prevailing situation of the tourism industry and tried to bring out few measure that can be adopted immediately. On a contrary, the study also throws light on the silver lining of the pandemic, by giving time to the nature to retrieve itself. The study is largely based on primary data collected through sample survey from a cross section of people involved in the tourism sector. The data so gathered have been processed, analyzed and presented using some meaningful statistical and cartographic techniques
NOVEL APPROACHES IN TOURISM DIGITALIZATION – STRATEGIES FOR A POST COVID - 19 WORLD
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has caused major damage to the tourism industry globally, many tour operators and agencies being forced to close down their businesses. It is no secret that the restrictions and fear of getting ill have been a deterrent when it comes to traveling abroad. However, in spite of all the damage it has caused, the COVID-19 crisis has also pushed the industry to digitalize more than ever been before. In this sense, one must regard technological advancements with a keen eye and observe the factors that can ease the access of travelers, as well as how these advancements facilitate the further development of the tourism industry. The digital transformation of tourism will not only help those that want to travel during a pandemic and are afraid to do so, but also those that are less mobile; this is an area that has not been explored up to this point. The digitalization of tourism can create a revolution when it comes to the mobility of the less mobile, offering travel opportunities for individuals with certain disabilities, or people that are unable to physically travel, because of a variety of reasons. In the given context, the present paper aims to observe the technological advancements and create a comparison between them in order to explore the best alternatives that will further develop the tourism industry in the following years, making travel, under different shapes or forms, accessible to all people, regardless of their degree of mobility
Fiscal Policy and Economic Change during Period of Pandemic
The aim of the study is to reveal the effects of the ongoing fiscal and economic policies since the beginning of the pandemic (Covid-19) period in the world. In the study, first of all, fiscal and economic policies in extraordinary situations have been approached theoretically from a historical perspective then the changes caused by the health crisis in the world generally in the field of economy and finance were discussed. The deepening of structural problems with the effect of the pandemic and their emergence with the economic crisis and their effects on public expenditures especially health expenditures, to the public expenditures, economic growth, price stability and budget balance are discussed in detail in this study. In the analysis part of the study, a general evaluation was made based on concrete data, and examinations were included in the time series by making use of national and international reports. In the study, it was seen that countries across the world faced with an increase in public debt, increase in inflation and unemployment rates, a decrease in growth rates and capital outflows from countries during the crisis. As a country case study, in Turkey, as many countries, within the shade of Covid-19, in order to mitigate the economic impact of the crisis, some expansionary fiscal policies under the name of "Economic Stabilization Shield" were discussed. At the end of the study, the economic and financial policies recommended to be implemented during extraordinary periods in general and especially during the pandemic process are included
SOCIAL MEDIA USAGE BY TOURISM COMPANIES AND THEIR BEHAVIOURAL CHANGE DURING COVID-19 PANDEMICS
Digitalization has provided many advances in the hospitality and tourism sector. Some accommodations have already implemented major changes by integrating new technologies to turn the guest experience into something unexpected and even incredible. Even if the micro-enterprises in the tourism sector have a reputation for focusing on business survival and not being risk takers, and with a limited innovation desire, the technology permeates most aspects of modern tourism business. In order to survive, tourism SMEs need to invest in digitalization. Destinations, businesses and the wider tourism sector will need to fully embrace these new technologies, in order to remain competitive and take advantage of innovation, productivity and value creation potential. Thus, tourism companies need to understand that social media and digital media are important for their future development and to incorporate them in the corporate strategies. Assessment of Hospitality education in terms of Lacking Skill Development in Meeting the demand of Industry: An Integrative review
The hospitality and tourism industry is one of the key drivers to contribute to the Indian economy. It has continuously excelled in other industries in terms of both generating GDP and Employment (Center for Economic Policy Research ). According to IBEF (India Brand Equity Foundation) Indian tourism is rich in variety, it has natural, heritage, medical, religious, and cultural tourism in its account. In FY20 it has created 39 million jobs which is 8% of total employment in India. It is expected to reach 52.3 million jobs by 2028. India has ranked 10th worldwide in the tourism sector according to WTTC and it has contributed Rs.13,68,100 crore which is 6.8% of the Indian economy.Indian hospitality education and industry both have been developing tremendously but there is a significant gap between the skills demand of industry and supply by academia. The study is an integrative review of previous research and it establishes the gap and provides suggestions to bridge this gap. Study has some limitations as the previous studies taken are from different countries not not only from India. The study will help various stakeholders to revisit their technologies and methodologies to mitigate this skill gap
DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT - ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION FOR ROMANIAN SMEs IN PANDEMIC
The period imposed by this pandemic, which we are going through, has visibly led to a kind of reconfiguration of our lives; we were forced to quickly fold all our daily activities and habits on a new pattern of life, so that we could go through this challenging period; we have all experienced a deviation of our life, carried out so far in the traditional, real environment, towards a quasi-known and insufficiently exploited environment, namely the digital one; such a forced and rapid transition has brought with it multiple difficulties, starting from a precarious ITC infrastructure, insufficient skills to use the tools of the digital environment and to software solutions and platforms insufficiently adapted for the online environment; starting from these lived realities, in the present study, the aim was to draw an image with a double perspective, pre and during-pandemic on the Romanian SMEs, in their confrontation with the problems brought by this crisis; specific problems were identified, solutions adopted, as well as behavioral changes of the studied companies, in crossing the pandemic period and in their effort to extend the activities to the digital environment, as an alternative to the real pre-pandemic world; the results obtained, we consider that they can be very useful for various categories of users, starting with researchers who can substantiate their extensive studies starting from the set of information delivered through the present study; then, we consider that the results can be used by local and central authorities, but also by companies in various fields of activity in general and those of IT and software development, in particular
SMART CITY THROUGH SMART TOURISM. THE CASE OF ORADEA CITY, ROMANIA
The commitment of smart cities to technology, sustainability, innovation, or accessibility could become an element of differentiation in the case of urban, cultural, and leisure tourism. An important part of tourists wants to find in these destinations, new things and experiences, as well as modern goods and services, comfortable and familiar, to make easy and inspiring choices. The smart tourism development of cities can also meet the requirements of economic and environmental sustainability - local businesses, sustainable and profitable, respectively, alleviating mass tourism, conservation of environment and heritage, ensuring the quality of life of tourists and residents alike. In the present study, we aimed to build an image of the smart city based on European experiences and best practice in urban tourism. Then, we interpret this knowledge and practices through the efforts made by an EU member state, especially within a city interested in such an option, in this case Oradea, Romania. We assert that the integration of tourism in this city’s long-term development strategies considers that technologies implemented in smart tourism destinations respond to important tourism challenges through accessibility, sustainability, digitization, and cultural-creative projects
ECONOMIC PARADIGMS AND BUSINESS MODELS TO ACHIEVE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF COMPANIES
The signing of the 2030 Agenda committed the countries of the world to finding the best mechanisms for the functioning of economies able to ensure sustainable development. Companies need to meet new requirements in order to remain competitive, while generating higher economic, environmental and social values.This article aims to describe the diversity of tree economic paradigms: lean economy, green economy, circular economy and its business models that are able to support sustainability. The principles of operation, benefits and how they will contribute to sustainable development were analyzed. Depending on the specifics of the sector, companies need to analyze and evaluate their actions to define their own path to sustainable development, based on national plans, policies and strategies. Companies can implement several business models belonging to different economic paradigms to take advantage of their synergistic effect.
