HOW ‘GREEN’ ARE THE TOURISTS VISITING ECO-TOURISM SPOTS AND STAYING IN RESORTS? A STUDY OF SELECTED RESORTS IN WAYANAD DISTRICT OF KERALA, INDIA

    No full text
In the context of growing environmental awareness and emerging environmental concerns arising out of climate change-induced issues, the tourism industry has started transforming itself by making shifts in the strategies and the kinds of services they offer. In line with this, green tourism has been emerging as an innovative area in the field of tourism. But, for green tourism to be successful in every aspect of its being ‘greener’, the guests visiting resorts and tourist places as well as the Staffs including managers at different levels engaging the guests need to be ‘green’ in their behaviour. Drawing on data from 80 randomly selected visitors at certain chosen resorts from the Wayanad district of Kerala India reveals that only 24 per cent of the tourists are Fully Fledged Green Tourists (tourists satisfying the majority of the expected green behaviours considered in the study) whereas 29 per cent and 47 per cent are moderately and marginally green tourists respectively. Most worrying is the fact that the marginally green tourists appear to be the highest in percentage. This corroborates the argument that the tourists visiting resorts and tourist places need to be further greener in their behaviour and attitude

Coastal  tourism is the mainstay of Goa’s economy. The economic importance of Goa’s coastal tourism is unquestionable. But the main challenge of Goa’s coastal tourism is the conflict between the economic benefits tourism generates and its negative impact on the coastal environment. The present article analyses the economic, environment and socio -cultural impact of tourism on coastal sustainability of North Goa’s famous beaches on stakeholders. The study suggests steps to reduce the negative impact of tourism activities and develop sustainable coastal tourism thereby addressing the research gap on coastal tourism sustainability.Using a convenience sample of 150 coastal stakeholders and applying a 5-point Likert scale, mean and standard deviation, standard error, the paper  finds that  locals who gained economic benefits perceive coastal tourism to be sustainable and those who haven’t, perceive it to be unsustainable. But all the  local stakeholders agreed that tourism has adversely affected the coastal environment as well as the socio-cultural sustainability. And, in the aftermath of the COVID 19 pandemic, the economic sustainability is also under threat. For sustainable coastal tourism, environmental laws need to be stringently implemented and all stakeholders  need to be proactive and sensitive towards their coastal areas

    No full text
Currently, the issue of waste is a priority both at the level of the European Union and at the level of many countries of the world. It is even more important as a special emphasis is placed on changing the current economic model with a sustainable one, that of the circular economy. In this context, in this paper we addressed the issue of waste in Romania in close connection with the European Union. The paper includes an overview of the waste situation in Romania, while seeking to determine a synthetic waste indicator, named the aggregate waste indicator (AWI). Based on this, a ranking of the member states of the European Union was made, thus identifying the place occupied by Romania in the field of waste. The calculation of the AWI was done by going through four stages: selecting the necessary indicators and establishing the time period, normalizing the statistical data, aggregating the indicators and calculating the AWI. The ranking for the 4 selected years did not include all the state members. The lack of statistical data for certain states led us to exclude them from the calculations. If in the first three years Romania was in the second part of the ranking, in the last year it managed to position itself on the 12th place. The situation is explained by the low recycling rates of waste in Romania. However, Romania recorded good values compared to the European average in terms of waste generated. The ranking highlighted the fact that the first position went to Austria (in the first three years), respectively to Lithuania. Estonia has consistently been in last place. It should also be noted that some states have either risen in the rankings or fallen

Describing sustainable business development, it is important to uderline three fundamental concepts, namely: economic growth, social equity and the specific abilities of natural systems to mantain dynamic balance. These three ideas are interconnected, but for the entrepreneurial mind their integration is still at an early stage. Undoubtedly, the implementation of the principles of sustainable development involves some obvious changes with an impact not only on enterprises, but also on management and entrepreneurial strategies as general concept. Currently, the business, for various reasons, is beginning to assume some responsibilities both for society and for the environment, and is trying to implement different new principles. But at the same time, business needs help and guidance in integrating the sustainable business development process

This paper approaches the impact of globalization on the monetary policy of the European Union by comparing the data available both on the official website of the World Bank and on the website of the European Union (Eurostat) in order to establish the global influences of inflation with how these indicators evolve with those at the level of the European Union. Also, the paper highlights the impact of globalization in economic life in terms of monetary policy of the European Union, as well as the degree of fulfillment of the objectives proposed within this policy. Thus, the most important indicators of monetary policy were analyzed, namely: the inflation rate, the interest rate, as well as the level of direct investments, as well as their evolution worldwide compared to the indicators from the European Union. To analyze the impact of globalization on these indicators I will use graphs that will reveal their evolution, and with their help I will determine the degree of influence of globalization. In this regard, I consider important to analyze how the indicators within the monetary policy of the European Union have evolved, as well as the contribution of globalization to the specific objectives of monetary policy so as to demonstrate that globalization influences both directly and indirectly the decisions that are taken within the monetary policy of the European Union for a more stable economy
