Thematic analysis was conducted using transcripts derived from 28 in-depth stakeholder interviews conducted in the top four foreign tourist destinations in Kerala. The objective of this study was to analyse the cultural and psychological factors underlying the tourism destinations and international tourism of Kerala. It is expected to provide insights for enhancing the effectiveness of tourism regulation and management. It is observed that certain factors such as destination’s safety features, repeat visits, prevalence of culinary tourism and the cultural preferences of European tourists had a positive and widespread impact on tourism in Kerala. At the same time, certain behavioural issues such as poor waste management, noise pollution, and overcrowding, had a common negative effect on international tourism in Kerala. Additionally, instances of cheating and misbehaviour against foreign tourists in these destinations have tarnished the overall visitor experience and negatively impacted arrivals. In summary, our qualitative analysis sheds light on the intricate relationship between cultural and psychological factors and their influence on international tourism in Kerala.

INTEGRATIVE TOOLS FOR MEASURING THE PERFORMANCE OF FIRMS IN THE TOURISM SECTOR. DESCRIPTIVE AND BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS

    No full text
In recent years firms in the tourism sector have invested heavily in the implementation of performance measurement systems, even though the implementation and maintenance of such a system is costly, and firms in this sector need modern and efficient tools for measuring, monitoring, assessing and judging the results that characterize the performance of the activity carried out. In addition to the financial performance of firms, highlighted by the information in the financial reporting and the management accounting information in the internal reporting to managers, non-financial information is also relevant, providing managers with a variety of information to help them in their planning, control and decision-making activities so that objectives are achieved.  Based on these considerations, the main objective of the paper is, on the one hand, to present the theoretical aspects of firm performance, both financial and non-financial, with the conceptual rendering of the balance scorecard (BSC) tool, which inspires decision makers through the perspectives presented, on the other hand, a descriptive and bibliometric analysis of the importance and use of the BSC tool in firms from the tourism sector, thus revealing the multidimensional nature of performance and the usefulness of this integrative tool

Beyond the Dichotomy of Business Versus its Environment: Internal Transcendence and External Assimilation

    No full text
The traditional dichotomic view of internal and external factors influencing businesses has long been a cornerstone of strategic management frameworks. However, this static view fails to capture the dynamic and reciprocal nature of modern business-environment interactions. This article introduces the Dynamics of Business-Environment Exchange (DBEE) framework, which moves beyond the conventional internal-external divide by acknowledging two additional categories: Internal Forces Acting Externally (IFAE) and External Forces Acting Internally (EFAI). The IFAE concept recognizes that businesses can leverage internal resources to shape and influence the external environment, while EFAI acknowledges that external changes can permeate and influence internal operations, fostering adaptability and resilience. By considering the reciprocal influence between businesses and their surroundings, the DBEE framework provides a more comprehensive understanding of the intricate interplay between organizations and their environments. This article explores the relevance of the DBEE framework in strategic planning, decision-making, and risk management. It challenges readers to reconsider the traditional perception of business-environment interactions, offering a paradigm shift that redefines business strategy in an increasingly complex and dynamic landscape

    No full text
In response to technological advancements and the decreasing use of physical currency, an increasing number of central banks are exploring the feasibility of central bank digital currencies as an alternative to traditional cash. This research study investigates the relationship between economic and technological factors and their impact on the development of central bank digital currencies in different countries. While previous studies have explored the effects of fixed broadband subscriptions and financial development, this study breaks new ground by analyzing the correlation between high-tech exports and the advancement of central bank digital currencies utilizing multiple regression analysis. Research findings indicate a positive correlation between fixed broadband subscriptions, high-tech exports, and financial development, with financial development being the most influential factor. This study provides valuable insights into the economic and technological factors driving central bank digital currencies projects. However, it underscores the need for further research to examine the barriers and risks associated with CBDC implementation

The issue of the insertion of graduates into the labor market remains a priority for decision-makers in international higher education. These concerns have received increased attention in the current climate of uncertainty in the labor market. Policymakers continue to emphasize the importance of \u27employability skills\u27 so that graduates are fully prepared to meet the challenges of the ever-changing labor market. This paper reviews some of the key empirical and conceptual themes in the field of labor market placement of higher education graduates over the last decade and attempts to demonstrate the role of educational attainment and investment in education on labor market placement. With the help of econometric modelling, we tried to highlight the influence on the insertion on the labor market of the level of graduated studies, the financing given to education and public investments in the education system

In today\u27s globalised and competitive economy, the use of management accounting information in the management of economic entities is an urgent necessity, with cost control being a desideratum to be pursued by managers at all levels. This research is intended to contribute to the improvement of management accounting in economic entities that operate in trade. Starting from the current Romanian accounting rules regarding the organisation of management accounting, norms that focus mainly on the production activity, the objective of the paper is to develop a methodology for calculating and analyzing costs and results by responsibility centers, applicable in trade. Also, taking into account the standard model of management accounts in class 9 of the Romanian General Chart of Accounts and the specific nature of the activity of selling goods, the research continues with the proposal of a model of accounts adapted to this activity and with examples of accounting entries that can be used in the organisation of management accounting and that bring added value to economic entities operating in trade through the information provided in the decision-making process

The impacts of climate change on nature-based tourism in the Indian Himalayan region can be significant and multifaceted, such as changes in weather patterns, biodiversity, water bodies or water availability, infrastructure, or services, and even changes in cultural and social patterns. Eventually, the impacts of climate change on nature-based tourism in the western Indian Himalayan terrain are projected to be substantial and complex. Hence, in this research work, we explored the consequences of climate change on nature-based tourism in the Western Indian Himalayan Region (W-IHR). This research study adopts a quantitative approach, using the survey technique, to assess the impacts of climate change on nature-based tourism. We used simple random sampling and selected 264 respondents as our study sample. The statistical analysis, i.e., multiple linear regression, was employed to test the study hypothesis to reach a conclusion. According to the findings, climate change has had a negative impact on nature-based tourism. Finally, this research stated that climate change impacts nature-based tourism by degrading the nature-based tourism resource base in the Western Indian Himalayan Region (W-IHR). Due to this alteration and degradation, tourism businesses such as tour operation agencies, hotels, restaurants, etc. would also be affected by increased risks
