Don't Give Me Just Positive Feedback: How Positive and Negative Feedback Can Increase Feedback-Based Goal Setting and Proactive Customer Service Behavior
How can managers use positive and negative feedback to encourage employees' proactive customer service behavior (PCSB)? This question has significant implications because while companies utilize feedback for employee development, it remains unclear how different forms of manager feedback can improve or impair customer service. We synthesize the feedback, goal-setting, and proactive service behavior literature and propose a motivational driver-goal setting-goal striving-goal attainment (MG3) model to help unpack the feedback-PCSB link. Using time-wave survey data in Study 1, we find that feedback-based goal setting fully mediates the effect of positive (but not negative) feedback on PCSB. Using controlled experiments in Studies 2 and 3, we demonstrate that while positive feedback affects feedback-based goal setting through feedback utility, negative feedback does so via feedback accountability, revealing distinct mechanisms. A Data Science Perspective on Global Trends in Energy Production
IEEE SMC; IEEE Turkiye SectionAs global demand for energy continues to rise, understanding the trends and dynamics of energy generation is crucial to ensure a sustainable and efficient energy future. This study employs data science techniques to analyze global energy production data from 48 countries spanning 2010 to 2023. Initially, we use clustering methods to categorize countries based on their energy production profiles into three distinct groups: high, medium, and low production. This clustering provides insights into the diverse energy strategies and capacities across different regions. Subsequently, we apply and compare two classification models, specifically Random Forest and Gradient Boosting, to predict the dominant energy source for each cluster. Furthermore, we perform a comparative analysis of two forecasting models, SARIMA and Prophet, to predict future renewable energy production for countries with high production profiles, such as the USA and China. The forecasting results show the efficacy of these models in capturing seasonal trends and providing accurate predictions. © 2024 IEEE
Milling Process Monitoring Based on Intelligent Real-Time Parameter Identification for Unmanned Manufacturing

The proposed hybrid approach, which is focused on overcoming the limitations of existing methods, utilizes machine learning (ML) for precise parameter identification in real-time to detect deviations. The ML system is developed using extensive data obtained from simulations based on enhanced force models also achieved through ML. Demonstrating over 96 % accuracy in real-time predictions, the method proves applicable for diverse unmanned manufacturing applications, including monitoring and process optimization, emphasizing its adaptability for industrial implementation using CNC controller signals. Energy Management in Organized Industrial Zones: Promoting the Green Energy Transition in Turkish Manufacturing Industry
Organized Industrial Zones (OIZ), which gained legal status by Law 4562 of 2000, played a significant role in Turkish industrialization policies, particularly in improving Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The energy management (EM) within OIZs is essential for Türkiye's green transition and 2053 net-zero pathway. Following the publication of a directive on OIZ's electricity market activities in 2006, enterprises can purchase electricity directly from OIZ management. Moreover, the Energy Efficiency Law No. 5627 of 2007 required OIZs to establish an energy management unit (EMU) to serve the participants with less than 1000 tons of oil equivalent (toe) energy consumption. EMUs provide OIZ management with a unique opportunity to enhance sustainable energy transition by increasing renewable energy production and improving the energy efficiency of participating enterprises. The primary goal of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of energy management units in OIZs in encouraging energy efficiency and green energy transition in the Turkish manufacturing industry. As a case study, we examine EM in the Adana Haci Sabanci Organized Industrial Zone (Adana OIZ), which ranks third among OIZs regarding electricity consumption. We analyze data on electricity infrastructures, roof-top PVs, invoice settlements/offsets, energy efficiency investments, and GHG emissions between 2017 and 2023. Our preliminary findings suggest that EMU in the Adana OIZ makes a very important contribution to the green transition of industrial establishments and that regulatory changes over the last decades have had positive effects. The share of renewable energy in the total energy mix increased from 1.6% to 21.4% over six years, and there has been a noteworthy enhancement in energy efficiency, reaching 27% in 22 companies evaluated. Recovering From Domination: Pettit's Republicanism and the Case for Rehabilitative Education
This article critically engages with Philip Pettit's civic republican theory, particularly his account of what it takes to realize non-domination in society. Despite providing a comprehensive analysis of the institutional prerequisites for realizing non-domination, Pettit surprisingly overlooks the critical role of education in achieving this goal. Pettit's neglect of republican education has been widely criticized, and a growing body of literature seeks to develop a civic education theory suitable for civic republican purposes. While there is considerable disagreement in the literature regarding the content and methods of republican education, almost all consider its scope restricted to the pupil's education. Pettit's insufficient understanding of domination's ill effects constrains our ability to envision a comprehensive educational response. In contrast, the republican tradition provides more substantial reasons for condemning domination and a richer account of the harms of domination, including a detailed account of the pervasive moral, developmental, and psychological harms. By drawing on women republicans of the 18th century (Mary Wollstonecraft, Sophie de Grouchy) and contemporary feminists (I. M. Young, and others), the article aims to establish the case for rehabilitative education, utilizing Tostan (an African-based NGO) as a model for its pedagogy and implementation. Such reconstruction requires challenging core tenets of Pettit's theory, such as his dismissal of positive liberty, the limited role he assigns to civil society organizations, and how he envisions the politics of republicanism. Hence, by revisiting and taking issue with Pettit's republicanism, the article advocates for rehabilitative education programs to overcome domination and envisions a more engaged and grassroots political framework for the politics of republicanism.I extend my gratitude to Sandrine Berges, Saniye Vatansever, mge Oranl, and Lucas Thorpe for their reading and commenting on the earlier drafts of this article. The Functioning of the Board of Directors in Limited Liability Companies
Bu çalışma limited şirketlerde müdürler kurulunun işleyişi konusunu ele almaktadır. 6102 sayılı TTK ile kanun koyucu şirketler hukukunda özel bir konuma sahip olan limited şirketlere, şirketin yönetim organı olan müdürlere (müdürler kuruluna) ilişkin önemli değişiklikler getirmiştir. Ancak müdürlere ilişkin birçok düzenlemede anonim şirket hükümlerine atıfla yetinilmiştir. Kimi hususlarda ise boşluklar bırakılmıştır. Bu sebeplerle limited şirketlerde müdürlerin hukuki konumu incelemek üzere bu çalışma yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, limited şirketin zorunlu organlarından biri olan müdürlerin kavramsal olarak ele alınması, müdürler kurulu toplantıları ve karar alma usullerinin detaylı bir şekilde incelenmesi ve son olarak müdürlerin kararlarının geçersizliğinin incelenmesidir.This study examines the functioning of the board of directors in limited liability companies. The Turkish Commercial Code No. 6102 introduced significant changes to limited liability companies, which hold a unique position in corporate law, particularly concerning the directors (board of directors) who serve as the company's management organ. However, many regulations pertaining to directors rely on references to provisions governing joint-stock companies. In certain areas, legislative gaps remain. Consequently, this study aims to scrutinize the legal status of directors in limited liability companies.The aim of this study is to conceptually analyze the directors, who are one of the mandatory bodies of a limited company, to examine in detail the meetings and decision-making procedures of the board of directors, and finally to focus on the invalidity of the decisions made by the directors
Age Classification by WGAN Brain MR Image Augmentation
Medical image augmentation plays a crucial role in enhancing the performance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in medical sciences. Augmenting medical images is important for solving data scarcity, increasing data diversity, enhancing robustness and reliability of model and improving training and test results that can be done in medical sciences. In this work we show that Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Network with Gradient Penalty (WGAN-GP) can be used for increasing the performance of data classification. To achieve that, we have augmented healthy brain MR images by using WGAN and updated the dataset. The results give that when dataset augmented by WGAN-GP is used as input for CNN-based model to solve age classification problem, accuracy of this model increases to 98,37% from 95,14%. It can be concluded that the purposed WGAN-based brain MR image augmentation method enhances the performance of image classification.Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Scienc
Preservation of Bronze Artifacts: Aizanoi Excavation Findings
Arkeolojik kazı alanlarında yapılan bilimsel çalışmalar bütünleşmiş koruma politikaları ile büyük bir anlam kazanmaktadır. Amaç kültürel mirasın uzun süreli korunmasını ve gelecek nesillere aktarılmasını sağlamaktır. Bu doğrultuda yapılan çalışmalarda önleyici koruma ve sürdürülebilirlik uygulamaları daha fazla önem kazanmaya başlamıştır. Tez çalışmasında da bu yaklaşımlar esas alınarak alanda ve laboratuvarda bronz buluntular için yapılan uygulamalar anlatılmıştır. Öncelikle 2. bölümde bakır ve alaşımlarının tarihçesi incelenmiş, 3. bölümde bakır alaşımı eserlerin koruma sorunlarına değinilmiştir. 4. bölümde ise arkeolojik kazı alanları ve laboratuvarlarda bronz eserlerin korunmasına yönelik günümüz uygulamaları genel bir başlık altında sıralanarak anlatılmıştır. Bu değerlendirmeler ışığında Aizanoi antik kenti buluntularından sekiz adet bronz eser ele alınmıştır. Bu eserler 2012 yılında UNESCO geçici kültür miras listesine dahil olan Aizanoi antik kentinde 2021 yılı kazı döneminde ele geçirilmiştir. Eserlerin alanda bulunma anından başlayarak depolama sürecine kadar yapılan tüm uygulamalar sistemolojik olarak anlatılmıştır. Bu süreçte çalışılan eserlerin bozulma durumları ve yapıldıkları malzemelerin özellikleri bilimsel analiz yöntemleri ile incelenmiştir. Sonuç bölümünde çalışmanın bütünü hakkında değerlendirmeler ve öneriler yapılmıştır. Bu tez çalışması ile arkeolojik alanda ve laboratuvarda bronz eserlerin korunmasına yönelik çalışmalar yapan restoratör-konservatörlerin günümüz koruma yaklaşımlarını esas alarak gerçekleştirdikleri uygulamalar anlatılmıştır.Scientific investigations conducted at archaeological excavation sites are greatly enhanced by integrated conservation policies aimed at ensuring the enduring preservation of cultural heritage for future generations. Within this framework, preventive conservation and sustainable practices have gained increasing significance. This thesis focuses on these methodologies, specifically addressing their application to bronze artifacts both in fieldwork and laboratory contexts. The study commences with an examination of the historical aspects of copper and its alloys in the second chapter, followed by an exploration of conservation challenges pertinent to copper alloy artifacts in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 provides a comprehensive overview of current preservation practices for bronze artifacts in archaeological excavation sites and laboratories. Drawing on these insights, the thesis discusses eight bronze artifacts discovered at the ancient city of Aizanoi during the 2021 excavation season, a site inscribed on UNESCO's provisional cultural heritage list since 2012. Detailed explanations are provided for all stages of artifact handling, from initial discovery in the field to subsequent storage procedures. Scientific analysis methods are employed to study artifact deterioration and material properties. The concluding section offers critical reflections and recommendations derived from the study. Throughout, the thesis elucidates the methodologies employed by conservators and restorers in the archaeological field and laboratory, informed by contemporary conservation practices
Economic Contractions and Effectiveness of Marketing Activities: a Case From the Automotive Industry
Kaya Aydin, Gizem/0000-0002-6870-7219Environmental and market factors play an essential role in shaping the evaluation of the strategy and performance of organizations as well as moderating these relationships. This study examines how the effectiveness of different marketing actions changes in the passenger car industry by considering brand-based data during economic contraction, which most countries experience, especially during and after the COVID-19 era. Different marketing activities' effectiveness means examining each action's impact on performance. Performance is measured by sales volume and market share through quarterly data between 2010 and 2018, while advertising, pricing, and distribution are considered marketing actions in this study. The model is estimated using the fixed effect panel estimated generalized least square. The results support that price competitiveness and investing in advertising, including social media during recessions, are two critical factors enhancing performance through sales volume in the car segment covered in the study. In addition, distribution intensity positively influences the sales volume of each car brand and model, while this effect does not change during the recession. In the case of performance measurement through market share, the total impact of advertising expense on performance during a downturn is found to be zero in contrast to the sales volume-based analysis. The price-related result is found to be in a similar direction, while distribution hurts performance during economic contraction. A Comprehensive Review of Open Source Intelligence in Intelligent Transportation Systems

Focusing on the utilization of OSINT for surveillance, threat detection, and risk assessment, the study evaluates key tools such as Shodan and Aircrack-ng, addressing their roles in enhancing transportation system security. The paper also tackles challenges in OSINT application, from data reliability to ethical and legal considerations, stressing the need for a balance between technological advancement and privacy protection. Through real-world case studies, the paper illustrates OSINT's practical applications in scenarios like maritime security and military surveillance. Conclusively, it underscores the necessity for continuous dialogue among experts to navigate the complexities of OSINT in transportation, particularly as technology evolves and data volumes increase. © 2024 IEEE
