Romantic Relationships in the Workplace: a Critical Approach To the Turkish Courts’ Case Law on the Employee’s Right To Respect for Private Life
The nature of an employment contract carries the risk that an employee’s personal rights, including their private life, may become open to the employer’s intervention. As the employee’s private life is an area which is open to employer intervention, the need to draw the boundaries of employer intervention in the context of balancing the interests of the employee and the employer, as well as the need to protect the privacy of the employee’s private life within the boundaries of the workplace, keeps this issue on the agenda of Turkish labour law doctrine and the judiciary today. To demonstrate the current developments in Turkish labour law - which will reveal the current approach towards the fundamental rights of employees, especially romantic relationships in the workplace- in this article, after briefly explaining the principles of the individual application system to the Constitutional Court in Turkish law and the concept of the right to respect for private life, the topic is discussed in light of the individual application jurisprudence of the Turkish Constitutional Court and the judgments of the Court of Cassation and Courts of Appeal. © 2024 Istanbul University Press. Understanding Virtual Onboarding Dynamics and Developer Turnover Intention in the Era of Pandemic

The newly developed Virtual Integration and Retention Framework (VIRF), which provides an improved understanding of VO, customized to the opportunities and challenges presented by the pandemic, is the fundamental concept of this study. A two-staged, higher-order constructed (HOC) quantitative research approach was used for the study, revealing a negative relationship between VO success and the challenges brought on by the pandemic. This emphasizes how difficult it can be to transition to remote work settings, especially regarding how operational effectiveness and employee well-being interact. Furthermore, the study demonstrates the positive connection between VO success and the delivery of technology and equipment during the pandemic. This result emphasizes how important logistical support is to the effectiveness of remote work arrangements. The study's key findings show positive impact of successful VO on developers' job satisfaction and workplace relationship quality (WRQ). Strong VO practices are essential to improve employee retention, as evidenced by the inverse correlation between these factors and turnover intentions. The study uses mediation analysis, with job satisfaction and WRQ acting as mediators, to further clarify how VO success influences turnover intentions. This study offers an in-depth understanding of VO practices during the pandemic. It discusses the future of remote work and onboarding procedures while navigating the immediate difficulties caused by the outbreak. The study emphasizes how important VO is for improving WRQ, decreasing turnover intentions of developers within the software company, and improving job satisfaction. These insights benefit organizations trying to improve developer integration and retention in changing work environments and improve their remote work strategies.This research did not receive grants from public, commercial, or non- profit funding agencies. A GSO-based multi-objective technique for performance optimization of blockchain-based industrial Internet of things

To solve the massive IIoT data security and efficiency problems, a potential approach is considered to satisfy the main needs of IIoT, such as high throughput, high security, and high efficiency, which is named blockchain. The blockchain mechanism is considered a significant approach to boosting data protection and performance. In the quest to amplify the capabilities of blockchain-based IIoT, a pivotal role is accorded to the Glowworm Swarm Optimization (GSO) algorithm. Inspired by the collaborative brilliance of glowworms in nature, the GSO algorithm offers a unique approach to harmonizing these conflicting aims. This paper proposes a new approach to improve the performance optimization of blockchain-based IIoT using the GSO algorithm due to the blockchain's contradictory objectives. The proposed blockchain-based IIoT system using the GSO algorithm addresses scalability challenges typically associated with blockchain technology by efficiently managing interactions among nodes and dynamically adapting to network demands. The GSO algorithm optimizes the allocation of resources and decision-making, reducing inefficiencies and bottlenecks. The method demonstrates considerable performance improvements through extensive simulations compared to traditional algorithms, offering a more scalable and efficient solution for industrial applications in the context of the IIoT. The extensive simulation and computational study have shown that the proposed method using GSO considerably improves the objective function and blockchain-based IIoT systems' performance compared to traditional algorithms. It provides more efficient and secure systems for industries and corporations. We introduced a blockchain-based IIoT using a glowworm swarm optimization algorithm motivated by glowworms' behavior, movements' probability toward each other, and luciferin quantity. Bu makalede Türkiye Sineması Görsel-İşitsel Ansiklopedisi isimli projenin ‘Sinematik Mekânlar’ bölümünün içeriği ve kapsamı aktarılacak ve yöntem olarak dijital görsel-işitsel veri tabanı oluşturmanın ve videografik üretimin sinema çalışmaları alanında ne gibi işlevleri olabileceği tartışılacaktır. Projeye adını veren sinematik mekânlar kavramı sadece filme arka plan olarak hizmet eden ve estetik olarak çerçevelenmeye uygun manzara ve yapıları kapsamaz; Türkiye Sineması’nda yıllar boyunca yüzlerce filmde tekrar tekrar kullanılmış, hafıza ve hatırlama ile organik bir ilişki kuran mekânları da tanımlar. Sinema yoluyla toplumsal hafızamızın ayrılmaz bir parçası haline gelmiş Pierre Loti Çay Bahçesi, Haydarpaşa Garı, Taksim Meydanı gibi kentin belirleyici mekânları ile izleyicinin gördüğü anda tanıdığı Yeşilköy, Büyükada ve Kuzguncuk’taki köşkler ve yalılar gibi iç mekânlar da bu kavramla tanımlanabilir. Multi-Criteria Decision Making in Optimal Operation Problem of Unbalanced Distribution Networks Integrated With Photovoltaic Units

However, improper penetration of renewable energy into power grids can lead to problems such as over-voltages and higher active power losses. Therefore, the voltage regulation problem in distribution networks is critical due to the increasing integration of renewable energy sources. On the other hand, an increase in renewable energy penetration leads to lower operational costs due to decreased energy purchases from the overhead grid. Therefore, it can be challenging for distribution system operators (DSOs) to decide the trade-off between more Photovoltaic (PV) integration for cost minimization or less penetration to minimize voltage deviation from a rated value. In this study, we formulated this trade-off as a novel multi-objective optimization framework, aiming to minimize operating costs and voltage deviations from a rated value in an unbalanced distribution grid. The proposed formulation is applied to the modified IEEE 34-bus unbalanced distribution network, where the epsilon-constraint method is utilized for solving the resulting multi-objective optimization problem along with the Exterior Penalty Functions (EPF) method. Securereg: Combining Nlp and Mlp for Enhanced Detection of Malicious Domain Name Registrations
Aksaray University, IEEEThe escalating landscape of cyber threats, charac-terized by the registration of thousands of new domains daily for lar ge-scale Inter net attacks such as spam, phishing, and drive-by downloads, underscor es the imperati ve for innovative detection methodologies. This paper introduces a cutting-edge approach for identifying suspicious domains at the onset of the registration process. The accompanying data pipeline generates crucial featur es by comparing new domains to register ed do-mains, emphasizing the crucial similarity score. The proposed system analyzes semantic and numerical attrib utes by leveraging a novel combination of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, including a pretrained CANINE model and Multilayer Perceptr on (MLP) models, providing a robust solution for early threat detection. This integrated Pretrained NLP (CANINE) + MLP model showcases the outstanding perf ormance, surpassing both individual pretrained NLP models and standalone MLP models. With an PI score of 84.86% and an accuracy of 84.95%on the SecureReg dataset, it effecti vely detects malicious domain registrations. The finding demonstrate the effecti veness of the integrated appr oach and contrib ute to the ongoing efforts to develop proactive strategies to mitigate the risks associated with illicit online activities through the ear ly identificatio of suspicious domain registrations. © 2024 IEEE
İżnik Town and Its Rural Landscape: Decision Making, Socio-Demographic Profiling and Conservation Policy Development
Songulen, Nazli/0000-0002-3605-2019In light of recent advances in landscape conservation, this study introduces a profiling model that provides context-sensitive heritage conservation strategies. The model is adaptable and focuses on socio-demographic profiling of a rural landscape. It uses Iznik (ancient Nicaea) town, a UNESCO World Heritage candidate, and the surrounding rural landscape as a case study area. The model captures the intricate interplay between the socio-demographic conditions of agriculture-based local communities and rural heritage, offering policy options to enhance community well-being and conserve rural heritage. Based on the complementary use of Cluster and Multiple Correspondence Analysis, the model employs multi-layered analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. The model identifies six distinct clusters, revealing the vulnerability and resilience of rural settlements around Iznik town, and the priority sites where rural heritage and local populations face immediate threat. Secure Optical Coded GSSK System with Dimming
In this work, we develop an indoor visible light communications (VLC) system based on a transmitted precoded (TPC)-aided, coded generalized space shift keying (GSSK) system with physical layer security (PLS) capability in the presence of dimming. A new design of the encoder and decoder of linear codes is given to improve the error-correcting capability of the system as well as to enable random selection of the activated indices in the GSSK automatically. The PLS of the system is guaranteed by the appropriate selection of the power allocation coefficients for randomly activated photodiodes (PDs). At the receiver, the unknown channel and dimming coefficients are jointly estimated in the legitimate users with a new pilot-aided estimation technique. Then, the optimal detection of the spatial symbols is implemented using the maximum likelihood (ML) criterion in the presence of dimming. It is shown that the dimming coefficients, unknown to the eavesdropper, provide additional PLS for the legitimate user. The computer simulations show that the legitimate user achieves excellent bit error performance mainly due to the linear coding employed that serves for error correction and selection of the best GSSK constellation in the system. When Neighbors Become Aggressors: the Local Tensions Behind the Expulsion of Jews From Eastern Thrace in 1934
This article examines the local context that led to the expulsion of Jews from Eastern Thrace in 1934. Going beyond the conventional state-centric narratives, it unearths the local socio-economic tensions that triggered the locals to target their Jewish neighbors. It highlights three major factors that fueled already-existing nationalist sentiments in the region: some Jewish merchants' involvement in usury, Turkish-Muslim agricultural producers' growing indebtedness due to the devastating impact of the Great Depression, and the government's failure to support producers with appropriate credit policies. Faced with the danger of indebtedness and dispossession, the locals in this context deemed the small Jewish community as "the easy target," scapegoating it for their ongoing problems amid Turkey's nationalist political climate in the 1930s.Social Science Citation Inde
Exploring Isis' Takfir Discourse: a Bert-Based Entity Level Sentiment Analysis Approach
IŞİD, Suriye iç savaşı boyunca ve sonrasında birçok bireyin, özellikle de sivillerin, hayatını derinden etkilemiştir. Tekfir anltasında çeşitli karar verebilen varlıklara yönelik ifade edilen duyguları anlamak amacıyla, özellikle uzun metinlerde varlıklara yönelik duygu analizi üzerine yapılan araştırmalar sınırlı olduğundan, hesaplamalı yöntemler kullanarak bir duygu analizi modeli geliştirmeye çalıştık. Araştırma hedeflerimize ulaşmak için, farklı araştırma amaçlarına sahip farklı modelleri entegre ettik. Özellikle, BERT NER modelini ve Span ASTE'nin iki katmanını entegre ettik. Özellikle, Bert NER'i, tipik olarak daha kısa müşteri yorumları için kullanılan yön bazlı bir duygu analizi modeli olan Span ASTE'nin iki katmanıyla birleştirdik.Ayrıca, karşılaştırma için uçtan uca duygu analizi yapan Span ASTE'yi kullandık. Hibrit modelimiz kesinlik, duyarlılık, ve F-skoru açısından bu temel modellerden daha iyi performans göstermiştir.ISIS has significantly influenced the lives of numerous individuals during and after the Syrian civil conflict, notably impacting civilians. In an effort to understand sentiments expressed towards various volitional entities in their takfir discourse, we endeavored to develop an entity-level sentiment analysis model using computational methods as research on sentiment analysis toward entities, especially in lengthy texts, is limited. To achieve our research objectives, we integrated different models with distinct research purposes. Specifically, we integrated the BERT NER (Named Entity Recognition) model and the two layers of Span ASTE (Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis). We employed previous scores of Span ASTE as an end-to-end baseline model for comparison. Our hybrid model demonstrated notable improvements over these baselines in precision, recall, and F-scores, suggesting its potential efficacy in sentiment analysis towards entities
