Improving Supply Chain Management Processes Using Smart Contracts in the Ethereum Network Written in Solidity

    No full text
This paper investigates the potential of integrating supply chain management with blockchain technology, specifically by implementing smart contracts on the Ethereum network using Solidity. The paper explores supply chain management concepts, blockchain, distributed ledger technology, and smart contracts in the context of their integration into supply chains to increase traceability, transparency, and accountability with faster processing times. After investigating these technologies' applications and potential use cases, a framework for smart contract implementation for supply chain management is constructed. Potential data models and functions of a smart contract implementation improving supply chain management processes are discussed. After constructing a framework, the effects of the proposed system on supply chain processes are explained. The proposed framework increases the reliability of the supply chain history due to the usage of DLT (distributed ledger technology). It utilizes smart contracts to increase the manageability and traceability of the supply chain. The proposed framework also eliminates the SPoF (Single Point of Failure) vulnerabilities and external alteration of the transactional data. However, due to the ever-changing and variable nature of the supply chains, the proposed architecture might not be a one-size-fits-all solution, and tailor-made solutions might be necessary for different supply chain management implementations

Assessing and Selecting Sustainable Refrigerated Road Vehicles in Food Logistics Using a Novel Multi-Criteria Group Decision-Making Model

Tirkolaee, Erfan Babaee/0000-0003-1664-9210; küçükönder, hande/0000-0002-0853-8185In recent years, food loss and waste (FLW) have become an essential issue at the top of the international community's agenda. Since more people are afflicted by this problem every day, the global population would be forced into poverty and starvation without finding an immediate solution. Therefore, in order to decrease FLW, well-designed and sustainable food and cold supply chains (FCSCs) are needed. Additionally, refrigerated transportation systems can be crucial in developing sustainable supply chains. According to some empirical research, the technological capabilities of reefer vehicles or trailers differ significantly. Thus, selecting the reefer vehicle is a complex decision-making problem and selecting appropriate reefer vehicles may have a critical role in constructing successful supply chain systems and reducing food waste and loss. The current research proposes an efficient, robust and practical decision-making framework that can overcome uncertainties to tackle this decision-making problem. The managerial and strategic implications of the study also aid in decreasing FLW and restructuring FSC for industrial context and support to the UN's sustainable development goals (SDGs). Later, an exhaustive sensitivity analysis was conducted to examine the developed model's validity and application, confirming the model's robustness and dependability

Population Politics, Reproductive Governance and Access To Abortion in Turkey

    No full text
Turkey currently pursues an aggressive pronatalist population politics which has created wide-reaching reproductive governance regulating reproductive health care and family planning choices. One aspect of this orientation centres on restricting access to abortion services despite the fact that abortion is legal through ten weeks of pregnancy. This article uses nationwide data collected from mystery patient surveys administered to all public (in 2016 and 2020), and all private (2021) hospitals in the country to determine the availability of abortion services in Turkey. Less than half of all hospitals responding provided abortions to the full extent provided by law. Abortion without restriction as to reason was largely unavailable at public hospitals and the cost of care at private hospitals remained prohibitive for many. Among those hospitals we reached, in four provinces, there was no public or private hospital providing any type of abortion care. The most frequent explanation for the lack of abortion services was that abortion is illegal. This was particularly the case for public hospitals. Despite a 10-week cutoff for abortions, 39% of private hospitals responding to the survey invoked even earlier time limits creating further restrictions. The extreme pronatal orientation of the reproductive governance currently in place has created a state of reproductive injustice that makes enhanced access to abortion of vital importance.GenderEx: Gender for Excellence in Research project - European Union [952432]; Fullbright Research GrantThis work was supported in part by the GenderEx: Gender for Excellence in Research project funded by the European Union under Grant 952432.

Cultural Context Shapes the Selection and Adaptiveness of Interpersonal Emotion Regulation Strategies

    No full text
In everyday life, we commonly experience, express, and regulate our emotions in interpersonal contexts. However, much of the existing research on utilizing others for modulating one's emotions has focused on Western, individualistic cultures, leaving a significant gap in understanding how the selection and adaptiveness of interpersonal emotion regulation (IER) strategies vary across cultural contexts. This cross-national comparison study aims to bridge this gap by examining intrinsic IER in 1,187 participants from Turkey and Germany, which are characterized by different cultural norms, values, and socialization practices regarding emotional experience and expression. All participants completed measures of intrinsic IER strategies alongside measures of adaptive outcomes, including depression, anxiety, negative affect, and positive affect. The results revealed cross-national differences between Turkish and German individuals in terms of the intrinsic IER strategies most frequently selected and their associations with depression, anxiety, negative affect, and positive affect. These findings emphasize the significance of cultural context in intrinsic IER and offer insights into the conditions under which these strategies are linked to adaptive outcomes. By recognizing the cultural nuances in how people navigate their emotions via social interactions, clinicians and researchers can develop more culturally sensitive interventions tailored to the specific needs of individuals in diverse cultural contexts.Social Science Citation Inde

Uslu, Abdullah/0000-0002-3660-7096; Tosun, Petek/0000-0002-9228-8907This study aimed to examine value co-creation as a predictor of customer satisfaction and emotional well-being using a comprehensive research model. It investigated the personal (customer extraversion and agreeableness) and situational (customer-employee rapport) variables that influence value co-creation (customer participation and citizenship behaviors) and, consequently, lead to customer satisfaction and emotional well-being. The tourism sector was selected for the study because value co-creation, satisfaction, and emotional well-being are crucial for hotel managers and academic researchers in the dynamic and competitive service environment. Around 400 tourists in Turkey participated in the field research. Data analysis with partial least squares structural equation modeling showed that extraversion and agreeableness positively influenced customer-employee rapport and value co-creation; agreeable and extroverted customers are more likely to positively interact with the service staff and engage in value co-creation. Customer-employee rapport positively affects value co-creation, customer satisfaction, and emotional well-being. Value co-creation has a significant positive impact on customer satisfaction and emotional well-being. The results contribute to the literature by testing an original model illustrating customers' role in value co-creation. Customer personalities shape value co-creation in dyadic exchange relationships. Their personalities, behaviors, and interactions during the service process shape their satisfaction and emotional well-being. This study contributes to the social exchange theory and service-dominant logic perspectives by providing empirical evidence regarding the significant direct impact of value co-creation on tourists' emotional well-being.The authors would like to thank the anonymous reviewers for their helpful comments. The authors would like to thank the anonymous reviewers for their helpful comments

The doping of different materials to ZnO, such as metals or metal oxides, is known to ameliorate its properties. Here, nanofilms composed of ZnO doped with WS2 at 5, 15, and 25% ratios are synthesized, and their properties are investigated. Supported by molecular docking analyses, the enhancement of the bactericidal properties after the addition of WS2 at different ratios is highlighted and supported by the inhibitory interaction of residues playing a crucial role in the bacterial survival through the targeting of proteins of interest

The Investigation of the Effect of Acoustic Roughness and Affective Vocalizations on Approach-Avoidance Motivations

We are surrounded by pleasant, appetitive, and unpleasant, threatening stimuli that require selecting appropriate responses, often automatically. The literature consistently reported automatic activation of affect-congruent approach-avoidance motivations for verbal stimuli and emotional facial expressions. However, research on the approach and avoidance tendencies in response to affective auditory stimuli is relatively scarce. The present thesis aimed to investigate approach-avoidance motivations in response to various human vocalizations that either convey affective information or potentially result in aversive perceptions in the listener. In Study 1, approach-avoidance tendencies in response to human affective vocalizations were investigated using the Approach-Avoidance Task and the Gender Evaluation Task. The findings replicated the previous studies using affective auditory stimuli, by revealing congruency effects only in the Approach-Avoidance Task. In Study 2, approach-avoidance tendencies in response to a perceptually aversive and danger-evoking feature of auditory signals - acoustic roughness - was investigated using neutral and roughness-added human vocalizations. The findings showed that, when the responses depended on the explicit evaluation of roughness, neither avoidance behavior towards aversive rough human vocalizations nor approach behavior for neutral vocalizations was found. Instead, an overall increase in the reaction speed was observed in response to rough sounds. To further examine whether the acceleration of reaction speed for rough sounds was due to the explicit evaluations, a control task was implemented in Study 3 by asking participants to evaluate the vocalized vowel in the sound, rather than roughness. Changing the task-relevant instructions completely eliminated the overall response facilitation effect of roughness. In three experiments, we showed that although both affective vocalizations and acoustically rough sounds share similar explicit stimulus characteristics in terms of valence, arousal, and aversiveness, their implicit behavioral effects are divergent
