A Novel Hybrid Coil Design and Implementation for Wireless Power Transfer Systems
PASAOGLU, Ali/0000-0002-6853-1356Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) has been drawing a lot of attention in the last ten years parallel with the market increase in electric vehicles. Although conductive charging methods are still the preferred ones, WPT-based charging systems are used as clean and flexible alternatives. At the center of these systems are the transmitting and receiving coils, and different coil types have been proposed in the literature. This study proposes a square-hexagonal hybrid coil structure to increase magnetic coupling by shaping the magnetic field. In addition, this design aims to minimize the coupling coefficient variation for misaligned coils which is one of the most significant problems in WPT systems. A 3D model of the coils was created and analyzed using ANSYS, Maxwell software. Compared to the conventional square coil structure the coupling coefficient of the proposed structure is less affected by misalignment on the x and y axes, and as a result, it has a better efficiency. In addition, a WPT system operating at 50 W, 85-kHz is designed and tested in a laboratory environment. The FEA analyses and experimental application results largely overlap, and accordingly, the coil-to-coil efficiency of our WPT system was 93.5% and the overall efficiency of the system was 87%.Not applicable. Not applicable.Science Citation Index Expande
Media Systems and Media Capture in Turkey: a Case Study
Akser, Murat/0000-0001-9772-394XThis article attempts to explain the current situation of the Turkish media system through the media systems approach as a case study with special attention to the concept of media capture. We propose that the Turkish media system's shift is heavily influenced by media capture. We associate four of Hallin and Mancini's media systems concepts related to the effects of media capture in the Turkish media system shift: rise of political parallelism, erosion of journalistic professionalism (ethics), controlling role of the state, and government-friendly ownership concentration. In explaining the shift from a pluralist polarised to captured media in Turkey, we acknowledge the potential for new, independent, and alternative media to emerge. The article also comments that the potential reason for this shift from a captured liberal to a captured media in Turkey is the climate of fear that has allowed successive governments in Turkey to attempt media capture. In general, this article attempts to provide insight into the current relationship between media and politics in Turkey.Acknowledgments The authors thank Nelson Ribeiro, Mireya Marquez-Ramirez, Marius Dragomir, Fanni Toth, Kata Horvath, Isabel David, Begum Dereli, Yaprak Gursoy, and Viktoriya Nikitina who have given feedback on different drafts of this article at different conferences between 2022 and 2023. Evaluation of Industry 4.0 Strategies for Digital Transformation in the Automotive Manufacturing Industry Using an Integrated Fuzzy Decision-Making Model
The current paper proposes a methodological frame to identify the best Industry 4.0 (I4) strategy for the automotive manufacturing industry as a roadmap for companies to make a more straightforward digital transformation. We noticed a critical research gap when we performed an extensive literature review. Although there are many studies available that assess the readiness of companies for I4, only a few deal with decision -making in terms of sustainable development, and none have applied that to the automotive industry. Practitioners can apply the proposed model to determine the strategy based on technological developments in I4. The current paper proposes an extended version of the combined compromise solution approach with the help of the picture fuzzy sets. According to the paper 's results, by using the proposed model, developing a new business model based on technological improvements is the best strategy for the digital transformation of the automotive industry. Also, the lack of research and development implementations on I4 implementation is the most influential factor. Hence, practitioners in the automotive industry know the significance of research and development in reaching successful results for digital transformation. The acquired outcomes of the paper show that developing technology -based new business models is the best strategy for the automotive manufacturing industry concerning digital transformation instead of accommodating traditional business models and high technology utilization

Resilience in Power Generation: Two Case Studies From Turkey
There is a growing interest in improving resilience in power systems to extreme climate events because of societies’ high dependence on electrical energy and its vital role in economies. Resilience, which is closely linked with sustainability and the environmental, social, and governance (ESG), is especially important during the power system planning and implementation, and enhancement can accelerate the country’s energy transition. In this chapter, we examined the lignite-fired Çan and hydroelectric Eğlence power plants as two cases in Turkey that can reveal the effects of extreme weather/climate events on electricity generation. This study used hourly air temperature data for Çan thermal power plants and daily precipitation data for Eğlence hydropower plants. The results of the investigation confirm the findings of previous studies: extreme weather/climatic conditions that occur because of global climate change cause considerable losses in electricity generation. Efficiency losses in power generation systems severely undermine Turkey’s energy supply security and economy, especially given the country’s high level of energy-import dependency. It is impossible to design every power plant to resist all possible events at the same time, but the effect of extreme climatic events can be reduced. We strongly recommend that the concept of resilience be immediately taken into consideration in designing new power plant investments and in adapting already existing ones to make them more flexible to any abrupt changes in climate. Resilience should top the energy agenda to enhance supply security and decrease dependence on foreign sources. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024
L’influence de la Constitution Belge sur la Loi Constitutionnelle Ottomane
The Belgian Constitution of 1831 is one of the constitutions that set an example during the preparation process of Ottoman constitutional law. The most important reason for this was the spirit of the Belgian Constitution, which brought together the monarch, parliament, and executive branch. Despite being inspired by the Belgian Constitution, Ottoman constitutional law was significantly different. The main objective of this study is to identify the similarities and differences between the two documents and to understand the spirit of Ottoman constitutional law. Therefore, to clarify the differences between documents, a comparative method is adopted primarily centered on articles that organize the structure and authority of the monarch and legislative and executive bodies. The main differences can be observed in the relationship among these three bodies. When the necessary provisions are compared, Ottoman constitutional law lacks specific provisions that might allow the development of equitable harmony between the monarch, parliament, and cabinet. More precisely, Ottoman constitutional law did not have the foundations for limiting the sultan’s power and creating a balanced division of power among the three bodies. Consequently, despite their similarities, Ottoman constitutional law lacks certain elements that allow it to be called a constitution; therefore, it is instead referred to as a constitutional charter. © 2024 Istanbul University Press. 'let the Black Sea Unite Us': the 1967 Soviet-Turkish Industrial Agreement and Ankara's Cold War Rapprochement With Moscow
This article explores a turning point in Soviet-Turkish relations during the Cold War: the 1967 interstate agreement that enabled construction of the backbone of Turkey's post-war state-owned industry, including the petroleum refinery in Alia & gbreve;a, the steel plant in & Idot;skenderun, and the aluminium plant in Seydi & scedil;ehir. It shows that Turkish leaders were not unusual in their balancing of Western and Soviet aid, nor in their attempt to use state intervention to overcome underdevelopment. During the 1950s and 1960s, Jawaharlal Nehru and Gamal Abdel Nasser employed similar tactics for similar ends. What was indeed unusual, was that Turkey was the only NATO member to receive such significant Soviet industrial aid. To explore the Soviet approach and the Turkish response, the article uses recently declassified records from the Russian State Archive of Contemporary History (RGANI) and the Turkish state archives (BCA).Social Science Citation Inde
Determinants of Citations in Tourism and Hospitality Studies
Raposo, Pedro/0000-0003-4356-3594; Kozak, Metin/0000-0002-9866-7529; Rodrigues, Paulo/0000-0002-6469-4959Citation metrics are frequently used to assess research and rank journals and researchers. Nevertheless, this is still a process with asymmetric information. Tourism research has matured within a small community and through a multidisciplinary scientific paradigm. This paper aims to understand the determinants of tourism research citation patterns. To this end, 101,968 papers within fifteen years (2004-2018) are analysed. Our empirical results suggest that authors' prestige, the multidisciplinary nature of research, and the impact factor of journals and bibliometric articles will likely increase an article's citations. This paper represents a step forward in understanding the citation formation process in tourism research.Emerging Sources Citation Inde
