    Paper Integrated Microfluidic Contact Lens for Colorimetric Glucose Detection

    Istif, Emin/0000-0003-4700-7050Contact lenses offer a simple, cost-effective, and non-invasive method for in situ real-time analysis of various biomarkers. Electro-chemical sensors are integrated into contact lenses for analysis of various biomarkers. However, they suffer from rigid electronic components and connections, leading to eye irritation and biomarker concentration deviation. Here, a flexible and microfluidic integrated paper-based contact lens for colorimetric analysis of glucose was implemented. Facilitating a three-dimensional (3D) printer for lens fabrication eliminates cumbersome cleanroom processes and provides a simple, batch compatible process. Due to the capillary force of the filter paper, the sample was routed to detection chambers inside microchannels, and it allowed further colorimetric detection. The paper-embedded microfluidic contact lens successfully detects glucose down to 2 mM within similar to 10 s. The small dimension of the microfluidic system enables detection of glucose levels as low as 5 mu l. The results show the potential of the presented approach to analyze glucose concentration in a rapid manner. It is demonstrated that the fabricated contact lens can successfully detect glucose levels of diabetic patients.     Attentional control refers to the capacity to voluntarily control attentional resources in a flexible manner. Attentional control was reported to play a fundamental role in self-regulation, emotion regulation, delay of gratification, and psychological distress. The Attentional Control Scale (ACS) was developed to measure perceived attentional control based on shifting and focusing dimensions. The present studies aimed to adapt the Turkish version of ACS and asses its psychometric characteristics. Study 1 aimed to explore the psychometric qualities of the Turkish version with a group of Turkish individuals (N = 428, 306 women) between the ages of 18 and 68 and supported the two-factor model of ACS consisting of 17 items in total. The results supported that shifting, focusing, and total ACS showed adequate internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and convergent validity evidence based on its significant correlations with measures of anxiety, depression, and repetitive negative thinking, signifying its proper psychometric characteristics. In Study 2 (N = 97, 65 women), the association of ACS with behavioral attentional control measures was examined, and non-significant associations between self-report and behavioral measures of attentional control were denoted. These findings signified that rather than indicating the individual's actual attentional control capacity, ACS assessed how the individual perceives their own attention control capacities. Taken together, the results suggest that the Turkish form of ACS is a valid and reliable scale that can be used to assess perceived attentional control capacity based on shifting and focusing domains, particularly in the research setting.Emerging Sources Citation Inde

    Bu tezin amacı, yeni tahmin modellerinin eğitimi, doğulanması ve test edilmesindeki zorlukları azaltılmış zaman maliyeti ve karmaşıklıkla ele alan bir makine öğrenimi operasyon mimarisi sağlamaktır. Bu mimari, birleştirme teknikleri yoluyla finansal zaman serisi tahmini için çeşitli tahmin modellerini bir araya getirmeye yönelik bir araç sağlar. Önerilen metodoloji, değişen ve ani piyasa davranışları için güvenilir bir tahmin üretmek amacıyla çoklu tahmin sonuçlarının entegrasyonunu araştırmaktadır. Bu mimarinin işlevselliği, Hareketli Ortalama Yakınsama Iraksama, Gizli Markov Modeli, Uzun Kısa Süreli Bellek ve Transformer modelleri gibi teknik analiz ve derin öğrenme teknikleri uygulanarak araştırılmaktadır. Bu çalışma, bu modellerin performansını üç farklı varlık sınıfı için incelemektedir.The purpose of this thesis is to provide a machine learning operations architecture that addresses the challenges of training, validating, and testing new prediction models with reduced time cost and complexity. This architecture provides a tool to ensemble various prediction models for financial time series forecast through ensemble techniques. The proposed methodology investigates the integration of multiple prediction results to produce a reliable prediction for varying and sudden market behaviors. The functionality of this architecture is investigated by implementing technical analysis and deep learning techniques such as Moving Average Convergence Divergence, Hidden Markov Model, Long Short-Term Memory, and Transformer models. Bu kapsamda TTK'de öngörülen imtiyaza ilişkin ayrıntılı hükümlerle ETTK dönemindeki tartışmalara son verilip verilemediğinin, TTK'de öngörülen imtiyaza ilişkin hükümlerin yeni tartışmaları da beraberinde getirip getirmediğinin tespit edilebilmesi ve imtiyaza ilişkin TTK m. 478 hükmü ile imtiyazlı pay sahipleri özel kuruluna ilişkin TTK m. 454 hükmünün öğretideki görüşler ve Yargıtay kararları ışığında ayrıntılı olarak ele alınabilmesi için tez konumuz 'Anonim Şirketlerde İmtiyazlı Pay Sahipleri Özel Kurulu' olarak seçilmiştir. Tez çalışmamız üç ana bölümden oluşmakta olup birinci bölümde, konunun temelini oluşturan imtiyazlı pay kavramının tanımına, imtiyazlı pay çıkarılmasında hakim olan esaslara, imtiyazın benzer kavramlar ile arasındaki ilişkiye ve imtiyazın türlerine yer verilmiştir. Tez çalışmamızın ikinci bölümünde ise İPSÖK kavramı, İPSÖK'ün amacı ile hukuki niteliği ve İPSÖK'ün hangi hallerde toplanmasının gerektiği hangi hallerde ise toplanmasına gerek olmadığı detaylı olarak açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Akabinde İPSÖK'ün toplanması ve karar alması konuları üzerinde durulmuştur. Tez çalışmamızın son bölümü olan üçüncü bölümde ise İPSÖK kararlarının hukuki etkisi ve hükümsüzlüğü konuları düzenlenmiş olup İPSÖK kararlarına karşı hukuki korumalara yer verilmiştir.In contrast to Article 401 of the Turkish Commercial Code No. 6762, Article 478 of the Turkish Commercial Code No. 6102 titled 'privileged shares' included more detailed provisions regarding privileges, aiming to put an end to the discussions during the period of the Turkish Commercial Code No. 6762. In this context, the subject of the thesis was chosen as 'Special Board of Privileged Shareholders in Joint Stock Companies' in order to determine whether the discussions in the period of the Turkish Commercial Code No. 6762 could be put to an end with the detailed provisions regarding the privilege envisaged in the Turkish Commercial Code No. 6102, or whether the provisions regarding the privilege envisaged in the Turkish Commercial Code No. 6102 caused new discussions. Our thesis consists of three main parts, and in the first part, the definition of the concept of privileged share, which forms the basis of the thesis subject, the principles governing the issuance of privileged shares, the relationship between privilege and similar concepts and the types of privilege are included. In the second part of our thesis, we delve into the concept of the Special Board of Privileged Shareholders, including its purpose and legal nature. We also provide detailed explanations regarding when it is necessary for the Special Board of Privileged Shareholders to convene and when it is not required. Subsequently, the issues of meeting and decision-making of the Special Board of Privileged Shareholders were discussed. In the third part, which is the last part of our thesis, the legal effect and invalidity of the Special Board of Privileged Shareholders decisions are regulated and legal protections against the Special Board of Privileged Shareholders decisions are included

    Enhancing Eye-Hand Coordination in Volleyball Players: A Comparative Analysis of VR, AR, and 2D Display Technologies and Task Instructions

    Previous studies analyzed user motor performance with Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) Eye-Hand Coordination Training Systems (EHCTSs) while asking participants to follow specific task instructions. Although these studies suggested VR & AR EHCTSs as potential training systems for sports players, they recruited participants for their user studies among general population. In this paper, we examined the training performance of 16 professional volleyball players over 8 days using EHCTSs with three display technologies (VR, AR, and 2D touchscreen) and with four distinct task instructions (prioritizing speed, error rate, accuracy, or none). Our results indicate that volleyball players performed best with 2D touchscreen in terms of time, error rate, accuracy, precision, and throughput. Moreover, their performance was superior when using VR over AR. They also successfully followed the task instructions given to them and consistently improved their throughput performance.     Comprehensive Survey of Artificial Intelligence Techniques and Strategies for Climate Change Mitigation

    Heidari, Arash/0000-0003-4279-8551With the galloping progress of the changing climates all around the world, Machine Learning (ML) approaches have been prevalently studied in many types of research in this area. ML is a robust tool for acquiring perspectives from data. In this paper, we elaborate on climate change mitigation issues and ML approaches leveraged to solve these issues and aid in the improvement and function of sustainable energy systems. ML has been employed in multiple applications and many scopes of climate subjects such as ecosystems, agriculture, buildings and cities, industry, and transportation. So, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) is applied to explore and evaluate findings from related research. In this paper, we propose a novel taxonomy of Deep Learning (DL) method applications for climate change mitigation, a comprehensive analysis that has not been conducted before. We evaluated these methods based on critical parameters such as accuracy, scalability, and interpretability and quantitatively compared their results. This analysis provides new insights into the effectiveness and reliability of DL methods in addressing climate change challenges. We classified climate change ML methods into six key customizable groups: ecosystems, industry, buildings and cities, transportation, agriculture, and hybrid applications. Afterward, state-of-the-art research on ML mechanisms and applications for climate change mitigation issues has been highlighted. In addition, many problems and issues related to ML implementation for climate change have been mapped, which are predicted to stimulate more researchers to manage the future disastrous effects of climate change. Based on the findings, most of the papers utilized Python as the most common simulation environment 38.5 % of the time. In addition, most of the methods were analyzed and evaluated in terms of some parameters, namely accuracy, latency, adaptability, and scalability, respectively. Lastly, classification is the most frequent ML task within climate change mitigation, accounting for 40 % of the total.     Data Augmentation With In-Context Learning and Comparative Evaluation in Math Word Problem Solving

    Math Word Problem (MWP) solving presents a challenging task in Natural Language Processing (NLP). This study aims to provide MWP solvers with a more diverse training set, ultimately improving their ability to solve various math problems. We propose several methods for data augmentation by modifying the problem texts and equations, such as synonym replacement, rule-based: question replacement, and rule based: reversing question methodologies over two English MWP datasets. This study extends by introducing a new in-context learning augmentation method, employing the Llama-7b language model. This approach involves instruction-based prompting for rephrasing the math problem texts. Performance evaluations are conducted on 9 baseline models, revealing that augmentation methods outperform baseline models.     The Open Source Intelligence (osint) in the Electricity Sector: Balancing Utility and Responsibility

    Critical infrastructure is the backbone of modern societies, and protecting this infrastructure is essential to ensure the stability of societies and economies. The electricity sector is one of the most critical infrastructures, and any disruption can have significant consequences. The threat landscape in this sector is constantly evolving. With the increasing sophistication of cyber-attacks and other threats, it has become essential to use innovative technologies to identify and mitigate them. Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) technologies have emerged and offer valuable tools for identifying and mitigating these threats. This article presents an in-depth overview of OSINT technologies and their applications in the protection of critical infrastructure, with an emphasis on the electricity sector. It discusses the vulnerabilities of the electricity sector, the types of OSINT technologies, and the benefits they provide. Case studies of successful applications of OSINT technologies in the electricity sector are presented to illustrate their effectiveness. This article also examines organizations’ challenges in implementing OSINT technologies, including technological, legal, and financial challenges. Finally, the article concludes by offering recommendations for successfully implementing OSINT technologies to protect critical infrastructure, particularly in the electricity sector.     20. YY'da estetik, siyasal ve toplumsal temsil krizleri imge kuramları ve görme biçimleri hakkında üretilen söylevin yeniden üretilmesi için çeşitli arayışlara yol açmıştır. Bu kapsamda, metin-merkezci antropolojinin bir alt türü olarak kabul edilen duyusal etnografi, antropolojinin toplumsal olayları medyada, özellikle de görsel materyaller aracılığıyla, tek tip temsil etme biçimine yanıt olarak ortaya çıkmıştır. İzleyiciyi aşırı farkındalık, şok ve çeşitli optik karmaşa biçimleriyle etkileyen duyusal etnografi, etnografinin duyular açısından yeniden düşünülmesi olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Duyusal etnografi, yalnızca duyu kategorilerinin incelenmesinden ziyade deneyimlerimizi ifade ederken kullandığımız duyusal deneyim algı ve kategorileri de hesaba katan etnografi yaklaşımlarının tümünü kapsamaktadır. Böylece, antropolojinin belirli bir kültürdeki duyuların araştırılması, sınıflandırılması ve yorumlanması olarak duyularla kurduğu sınırlı ilişkisi, kendini etnografın psikosomatik deneyimini şart koşan çok katmanlı bir ilişkinin modeli olarak özgürleştirmiş ve duyusal etnografi kavramının temellerini atmıştır. Duyusal etnografi bir topluluğu ya da bireyi dışarıdan izlemenin yetersizliğini vurgulayarak, beş duyu aracılığıyla edinilen, özellikle görsel olmayan gözlemlerin de etnografik verilere dahil edilmesinin gerekliliğini vurgulamaktadır. Bu bağlamda, duyusal etnografi belgeleyen ve belgelenen arasındaki interaktif ilişkinin irdelenmesi sonucunda ortaya çıkan her türlü materyalin mümkün olduğunca az kurgusal müdahale ile estetik bir biçim halinde yeniden sunulması olarak da ifade edilebilmektedir. İlk kez 2006 yılında Harvard Üniversitesi'nde, felsefi yaklaşımının sinematik bir karşılığı olarak antropolog Lucien Castaing-Taylor tarafından kurulan Sensory Etnography Laboratory (SEL), yaşamı insan merkezci optik bir gerçeklikten kaydetmek yerine, farklı anlatım tekniklerini araştırarak farklı bir kozmoloji arayışına girmektedir. Üniversite merkezli ilk etnografi film laboratuvarı olarak faaliyete başlayan SEL, ürettiği görsel-işitsel çalışmalar kapsamında olayları belirli bir özneye göre konumlandırmayı reddederek görüntüleri çoklu referanslara 8 dönüştürmekte ve sinemanın geleneksel sınırlarından kopmaya çalışan etnografik bir film yapım tekniği önermektedir. Yukarıdaki bilgiler ışığında, araştırmanın temel amacı SEL'in Duyusal Etnografi içerisinde verdiği mücadeleden ortaya çıkan görsel pratiğin, daha sonra bağımsız sinemacılar tarafından farkında olarak ya da olmayarak nasıl uygulandığı sorunsalı görsel materyallerin analizleriyle göstermektedir. Söz konusu görsel materyaller bir duyusal etnografik görselin ortaya çıkması için gereken belirli şartları sağlayıp sağlamadığına göre seçilmektedir. Buradan hareketle, araştırma çerçevesinde, henüz tam bir tanıma sahip olmayan, tartışmalı duyusal etnografi film yapısına dair kavramsal bir tartışma gerçekleştirilmesi planlanmaktadır.In the 20th century, aesthetic, political, and social representation crises, image theories, and calculations have led to various searches due to the discourses produced approximately. In this context, sensory ethnography, accepted as a sub-genre of text- centered anthropology, has emerged as a response to the uniform representation form of anthropology in the media of social events, primarily through visual materials. Sensory ethnography, which affects the audience with extreme awareness, shock, and various optical confusion, is defined as the rethinking of ethnography in terms of the senses. Sensory ethnography encompasses the development of ethnographic approaches that express our experiences rather than only examining sensory experiences while also reporting the perception and categories of sensory experience. Thus, the indirect relationship that anthropology establishes between the senses in a particular culture, as their diversity and interpretation, has liberated itself as a model of a multi-layered history that requires the psychosomatic experience of the ethnographer and has laid the foundations of the concept of sensory ethnography. Sensory ethnography is an example of the ethnographic use of the infrastructure of an orchestra or external viewing, especially non-visual observations obtained through the five senses. In this context, sensory ethnography can also be expressed as the re-circulation of all kinds of materials as comprehensively as possible with minimal staged interventions due to examining the interactive relationships between the documenter and the documented in an aesthetic form. The Sensory Ethnography Laboratory (SEL), established in 2006 at Harvard University by anthropologist Lucien Castaing-Taylor as a cinematic counterpart to the philosophical approach, seeks a different cosmology by investigating different narrative techniques instead of the human-centered optical reality of life. SEL, which started its activities as the first university-based ethnography film laboratory, is an ethnographic film production that tries to break away from the traditional boundaries of cinema by transforming images into multiple references by showing events relatively more than a particular subject within the scope of striking audiovisual studies. The above information plan, the primary purpose of the research, is to reveal the visual practice 10 that emerged from the struggle to print within the Sensory Ethnography of SEL. Then, the creative visual materials that independent filmmakers were aware of or were not involved in were analyzed. The visual materials in question are selected according to certain conditions for the emergence of a sensory ethnographic image. A conceptual discussion is planned within the research framework regarding the various sensory ethnographic film dimensions that still need a full definition

    An Overview of Electricity Consumption in Europe: Models for Prediction of the Electricity Usage for Heating and Cooling

    Although aggregate electricity consumption provides valuable information for market analysis, demand composition, including industrial, residential, illumination, and other uses, and special days, such as national or religious holidays and annual industrial shutdowns, differ for each country. This paper analyzes the hourly electricity consumption of European countries in the European Transmission System Operation for Electricity (ENTSO-E) grid from 2006 to 2018. We propose an outlier detection method to identify special days and a modulated Fourier Series Expansion model to determine the breakdown of industrial versus household consumption and heating versus cooling consumption. The proposed outlier detection method uses the time series for each hour and checks whether a day has more than a threshold number of hours with exceptional electricity consumption levels. The proposed demand prediction model has a 3% average error when electricity usage for heating is not dominant. It also allows country classification based on consumption patterns to efficiently manage regional or country-based electricity markets. © 2024, Econjournals. All rights reserved
