Anomaly Detection and Performance Analysis With Exponential Smoothing Model Powered by Genetic Algorithms and Meta Optimization
This study employs a genetic algorithm to optimize the parameters of the Third Order Exponential Smoothing model for predicting on the real-time traffic datasets of the Numenta Anomaly Benchmark (NAB). The genetic algorithm process was executed with different population sizes and gene sets. In addition, a parameter sensitivity analysis was conducted, through which the ideal number of genes and population size providing the best results within the specified range were determined. Moreover, a novel approach incorporating meta-optimization techniques is proposed to enhance the efficiency of the genetic algorithm optimization process, aiming to achieve improved accuracy in anomaly detection. The proposed methodology has been tested on various traffic data scenarios across different datasets to detect deviations critical to traffic management systems. Performance comparisons using the NAB scoring system demonstrate that the method developed in this study outperforms the majority of existing NAB algorithms, as well as the contemporary approaches of Isolation Forest, Multi-Layer Perceptron Regressor (MLPRegressor), and hybrid K-Nearest Neighbors - Gaussian Mixture Models (KNN + GMM), and is competitive with leading algorithms. The proposed approach, which achieved scores of 54.41 for 'Standard', 53.95 for 'reward_low_FP_rate', and 69.61 for 'reward_low_FN_rate', indicates improvements of 3.67%, 4.45%, and 2.63%, respectively, compared to the average scores of the NAB algorithms. The findings indicate that the proposed approach not only detects anomalies with high precision but also dynamically adapts to changing data characteristics without requiring manual recalibration. This study proposes a robust traffic anomaly detection method that ensures reliable monitoring and potentially facilitates effective traffic management and planning. The results of the study can be extended to other areas requiring real-time data monitoring and anomaly detection, offering a scalable solution adaptable to different contexts and requirements. © 2013 IEEE

Unveiling Power Dynamics: A Comparative Exploration of Micro-Powers and Tactics in 'Das Lehrerzimmer'(2023) and 'Black Box'(2023)
This thesis examines the relationships between space, power, and resistance in the films Das Lehrerzimmer (Çatak, 2023) and Black Box (Özge, 2023) at the intersection of cinema, architecture, and social theory. The analysis is grounded in Michel Foucault's theories of biopolitics and discipline and is further expanded through Giorgio Agamben's concepts of the state of exception and homo sacer, as well as Michel de Certeau's theories on everyday life tactics. By demonstrating that space is not merely a backdrop but an active force shaping social relations, the study aims to contribute to discussions on how cinema critiques spatial and political structures. This thesis situates itself within the interdisciplinary intersection of film, architecture, and urban studies, leveraging critical theories to investigate the biopolitical and disciplinary mechanisms embedded in cinematic spaces

Critical-Size Muscle Defect Regeneration Using an Injectable Cell-Laden Nanofibrous Matrix: An Ex Vivo Mouse Hindlimb Organ Culture Study
Musculoskeletal injuries involving volumetric muscle loss remain difficult to treat due to limited regenerative capacity and the lack of physiologically relevant experimental models. This study introduces a computer-controlled ex vivo mouse hindlimb culturing platform that applies dynamic mechanical loading to evaluate muscle regeneration in a critical-size tibialis anterior (TA) defect. The defect was treated with an injectable myoblast-laden nanofibrous scaffold composed of polycaprolactone nanofibers and collagen (PNCOL). The ex vivo mouse hindlimb culturing platform maintained tissue viability and transmitted physiological strain across bone and muscle without disrupting the unity of the bone-muscle structure. PNCOL treatment under mechanical loading enhanced muscle fiber organization, extracellular matrix regeneration, and anti-inflammatory responses (CD206) while upregulating paired box 7 (PAX7), myogenic factor 5 (MYF5), myogenic regulatory factor 4 (MRF4), and transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF beta 1) expression. Cytokine profiling revealed an anabolic shift involving wingless/integrated (WNT) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) signaling, indicating a pro-regenerative microenvironment. Overall, the combination of mechanical stimulation and biomaterial-based therapy significantly improved muscle regeneration within a controlled ex vivo model. This multidimensional approach provides a reproducible and ethical platform that advances musculoskeletal regenerative research while reducing animal use.National Science Foundation [2213958]The National Science Foundation supports this study under grant 2213958 (E.Y.-A.)
Riemannian Manifold Approach for RIS/IOS-Assisted Wireless Networks Design
Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) and Intelligent Omni-Surfaces (IOS) have emerged as transformative technologies in wireless communications, offering enhanced energy and spectral efficiency. However, the inherent characteristics of RIS/IOS also bring new challenges to the resource allocation design of RIS/IOS-assisted wireless networks, such as the nonconvexity caused by the constant modulus constraint of RIS/IOS phase shift elements and the complexity of jointly designing RIS/IOS phase shifts and base station beamforming. Although existing approaches, such as the max-min algorithm and the alternating optimization algorithm, can address these challenges, they suffer from high computational complexity. This paper systematically analyzes the challenges in the design of RIS/IOS-assisted wireless networks and briefly introduces the principles of Riemannian manifold optimization. To address these complex design challenges, we introduce four pivotal manifolds: the complex circle manifold, sphere manifold, Cholesky manifold, and product manifold, each providing unique solutions for enhancing network performance. Finally, we discuss future research directions for Riemannian manifold methods in the design of RIS/IOS-assisted networks.National Key R&D Program of China [2023YFE0206600]; NSFC [62471341]; Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities [2042025kf0039]This work was supported in part by the National Key R&D Program of China under Grant 2023YFE0206600, in part by the NSFC under Grant 62471341, and in part by the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities under Grant 2042025kf0039
A Polish Adaptation of the Autobiographical Recollection Test (ART): Toward a Reliable and Valid Measure of Individual Differences in Autobiographical Memory
Although previous research has extensively examined the characteristics of specific autobiographical memories, few tools have been available to assess how individuals recall their personal past in general. To address this gap, we adapted into Polish the Autobiographical Recollection Test (ART), a self-report instrument originally designed to capture general autobiographical remembering across seven components: vividness, narrative coherence, reliving, rehearsal, scene construction, visual imagery, and life story relevance. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the factorial validity of the Polish version, demonstrating adequate psychometric properties. The Polish adaptation also showed expected correlations with another self-report measure of autobiographical memory ability (Survey of Autobiographical Memory, SAM), supporting its convergent validity. Furthermore, both the full and brief versions of ART showed significant associations with scores on the Involuntary Autobiographical Memory Inventory (IAMI). These findings provide robust support for the Polish adaptation of ART as a reliable tool for assessing the subjective qualities of autobiographical memory, with potential applications in research on diverse populations.Narodowe Centrum Nauki [2019/35/B/HS6/00528]This work was supported by Narodowe Centrum Nauki [grant number 2019/35/B/HS6/00528]
Signaling Shaped by the Context: Early-Stage Funding in the Turkish Startup Ecosystem
Providers of early-stage financing tend to be highly selective due to significant uncertainty surrounding the future potential of new businesses. Since these ventures typically lack established performance records, potential investors focus on observable qualities of the founder as signals of the venture's viability and chances for success in the market. Despite extensive research on new venture signaling and financing, the impact of context on investors' decision-making has not been thoroughly explored. This oversight is significant because both firm performance and investor decision-making are influenced by economic, social, and institutional contexts. This study aims to address this gap in the literature by identifying sector-level, entrepreneurial ecosystem-level, and economy-level factors that serve as contextual influences on new venture signaling. We examine early-stage angel and venture capital investments in Turkey, which is an emerging economy with a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. Our results on the sample of 2,231 startups show that returnee founders are more likely to obtain early-stage financing than local entrepreneurs, and investors tend to hold particularly favorable views of returnee entrepreneurs in high-tech industries. Moreover, the likelihood of securing investment increases with the diversity of the founder's prior work experience, a trend that has been amplified during the heightened turbulence caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, investors' evaluations of female entrepreneurs slightly improve as women-led startups become more prevalent in the ecosystem and gain legitimacy. These findings indicate that finance providers have a significantly broad attention span for context-specific influences, and their decisions are shaped by both rational and socio-cognitive processes
Towards a Scalable and Efficient Full- Adder Structure in Atomic Silicon Dangling Band Technology
Mosleh, Mohammad/0000-0002-0991-1623; Rasmi, Hadi/0000-0002-6790-8684Atomic Silicon Dangling Bond (ASDB) is a promising new nanoscale technology for fabricating logic gates and digital circuits. This technology offers tremendous advantages, such as small size, high speed, and low power consumption. As science and technology progress, ASDB technology may eventually replace the current VLSI technology. This nanoscale technology is still in its early stages of development. Recently, many computing circuits, such as full-adder, have been designed. However, these circuits have a common fundamental problem; they consume a lot of energy and occupy a lot of area, which reduces the performance of complex circuits. This paper proposes a novel ASDB layout for designing an efficient full-adder circuit in ASDB technology. Moreover, a four-bit ASDB ripple carry adder(RCA) is designed using the proposed ASDB full-adder. The proposed ASDB fulladder not only improves the stability of the output but also surpasses the previous works, in terms of energy and accuracy,by 90% and 38%, respectively. Also, it has very favorable conditions in terms of occupied area and is resistant to DB misalignment defects.Science Citation Index Expande
