The consortium of European universities participating in the Erasmus+ KA220 PIPE Project (Programme of social inclusion for migrants at risk of social exclusion), together with the critical pedagogies research team PEDACRI-ULL, collaborate in the design, implementation and promotion of a transnational cooperation network focused on improving the skills and competences of migration professionals and migrant populations. The aim is to empower migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, professionals and volunteers, fostering their integration in host countries through cultural exchange while addressing social, technological and economic challenges. It is committed to building bridges between diverse communities, promoting mutual understanding, inclusion and social cohesion. In this paper we analyse the difficulties and complexities that inhabit the encounter between cultures, from a critical decolonising pedagogy, starting from cultural humility and the weakening of identities, from a dialogue of knowledge and narratives of questions, to outline a pedagogy of hospitality that imagines a migrant citizenship based on an ethic of miscegenation capable of bringing to today, that which founded us as a community, the Xenia, our first liquid law of hospitality.

This article analyzes the disputes between the Colombian republican State and the Catholic Church regarding the exercise of ecclesiastical patronage rights during the republican consolidation period (1821–1835). Drawing on primary sources –such as official correspondence, ecclesiastical records, and governmental regulations– it examines the mechanisms through which the nascent State sought to control ecclesiastical institutions amid the rupture with the Spanish monarchy and the redefinition of Church-State relations. The absence of a concordat with the Holy See created tensions between the republican government and the ecclesiastical chapter of Santafé, exposing the legal and political ambiguities surrounding sovereignty and the legitimacy of spiritual authority in the new republican order. This study contributes to our understanding of secularization and state-building processes in post-independence Latin America, emphasizing the central role of the patronage conflict as a contested space between the political and the sacred.

This article analyzes the dynamics of self-organization among sex workers in Seville from a pro-rights, transversal, feminist, and human rights perspective. The central objective is to understand how these women organize collectively to confront stigmatization, both direct and indirect criminalization, and the precarity resulting from a restrictive regulatory framework, particularly following the approval of the Ordinance Against Prostitution and Human Trafficking in the Andalusian capital. The methodology is based on a qualitative, interdisciplinary, and socio-legal approach, grounded in documentary analysis and the case study of the Seville Prostitutes’ Collective (CPS). The article examines strategies of resistance, support networks, and the positive impacts of self-organization on the personal and professional lives of sex workers. It concludes that self-organization is a key tool for defending rights, dignifying sex work, and transforming a historically exclusionary social context. Furthermore, it highlights the urgent need for inclusive public policies that recognize and protect this form of labor, as well as the importance of transversal alliances in the struggle for social justice.

José María de Salamanca y Mayol (May 23, 1811 -January 21, 1883) was a prominent political, aristocratic, and social figure, and an important businessman of the 19th century. In this article, we analyze the evolution of José de Salamanca's assets until his first seizure and bankruptcy, which occurred in 1848 and 1849, respectively. The article attempts to answer the question of whether José de Salamanca entered the Spanish government to improve its poor economic and financial situation, as his enemies argued, or whether he entered a negative economic and financial situation due to political attacks after leaving the government, as he claimed. Our conclusion is that both occurred, as he was facing financial problems when he entered government, but exile and political persecution ultimately ruined him.

The migration system affecting Latin American women without legal status during their transit through Mexico is analyzed from a decolonial feminist theoretical perspective. The study identifies the main risks and forms of violence these women face, including human trafficking and sexual assault, and compares them with the most common risks encountered by migrant men, drawing on analyses of gender-disaggregated statistics and government reports. The findings show that, despite the existence of legislative frameworks recognizing fundamental rights, there is a significant gap in state protection for migrant women. The study argues that this situation perpetuates structural inequalities and calls for differentiated public policies incorporating a gender perspective.

    Tumor microenvironment modulation in hepatocarcinoma.

Motivation: Hepatocellular carcinoma, one of the most aggressive malignancies with the lowest survival rates, has a complex tumor microenvironment containing immune cells, tumor cells, HSCs, and other cancer-associated cells. The tumor microenvironment signals tumoral cells to become more tumorigenic. In liver fibrosis and HCC, HSCs transdifferentiate and become active, expressing a-SMA and producing ECM proteins. Energy-intensive HSC activation needs glycolysis, mitochondrial respiration, and glutaminolysis.   Targeting HSC activation in HCC is a possible therapy for this prevalent disease. Previous research from our group has demonstrated that GATA4 modulates HSC, leading it to switch from active to inactive state. This work investigates the effect of GATA4 on the metabolism of active HSCS and the efficacy of pharmacological treatments to increase endogenous GATA4 expression in active HSCs to inactivate them. Methods: Activated human-derived activated hepatic stellate cell line, LX2, was used to determine the effect of GATA4 overexpression in cellular respiration.  Previously identified putative activators of GATA4 endogenous expression were interrogated for their potential to inactivate HSCs.    Results: GATA4 overexpression in activated HSCs induces decreased in mitochondrial respiration and metabolomic analysis showed a decreased in a-cetoglutarate. The addition of Dimetil a-cetoglutarate, DMKG, did not restored the inactivation of HSCs promoted by GATA4. Two different molecules with potential of activated the endogenous expression of GATA4 were not able to revert the active phenotype of HSCs. Conclusions: The decrease of mitochondrial respiration induced by GATA4 to revert the active phenotype of HSCs is independent of a-cetoglutarate. The potential activators of GATA4 expression identified in a previous screening from a repurposing library were not able to induce the reversion of the activate state, as measured by a-SMA expression and ECM proteins

Decoding the Role of a Microtubule-related protein in Meiosis.

Several meiosis-specific proteins of Schizosaccharomyces pombe play essential roles in meiotic progression. In this study we report that a conserved microtubule-related protein is required for proper spore formation. Sporulation in fission yeast represents a unique model to study gametogenesis in sexual reproducing organisms. This event is accompanied by formation of the forespore membrane (FSM), which becomes the plasma membrane of spores [1]. After the two sequential meiotic divisions, FSMs expand and encapsulate the haploid nuclei, producing the membrane-surrounded spore precursors [2]. During anaphase II, two FSM sacs expand from the poles encasing the nuclei, and these elongates with the intranuclear spindle to divide into two. Finally, these sacs enclose four newborn nuclei individually. The leading edge of the elongating FSM forms a ring and comprises some associated proteins [3]. The leading edge ring is a crucial structure in meiosis that remains poorly understood.  Our research investigates its role and dynamics, focusing on the localization and function of this microtubule-related protein during spore formation in fission yeast. Transgenic S. pombe strains were generated by tagging the gene of interest with GFP along with either mCherry-labeled microtubules or mCherry-Psy1 to observe simultaneous dynamics of these markers throughout meiosis in vivo. Fluorescence microscopy was used to capture images at different Z-plane levels for 3D reconstruction. These experiments reveal that this protein is localizes in the leading-edge ring. In addition, we studied the lack-of-function by deletion of this gene, revealing a phenotype characterized by malformed spindles and delayed assembly/disassembly during meiosis II. This could lead to issues in chromosome segregation and result in mutants with altered chromosomal content

The present work presents a historical analysis of Managerial Accounting in Portugal during the 20th century, when the main developments, in terms of standardization, around accounting science in the country took place. The work focused essentially on the legislative basis that can be taken as a reference for the area of this branch of accounting. The results of this study suggest that the constraints observed in management accounting can be explained by the highly normative accounting culture in Portugal, which has resulted in very restricted identified practices.
