Studying Islam in an age of disruption: towards knowledge integration
This paper tries to offer an approach to studying Islam in the contemporary age by taking into account the socio-political contexts which surround the present-day Muslim communities. Islamophobia, post-truth, the era of identity, and post-orientalism pose new challenges to Islamic studies. The interdisciplinary approach is thus a necessity, in line with the complexity of the problems of contemporary Muslim societies. This study strives to investigate two main research problems, namely: (a) in which ways current socio-political circumstances pose challenges to the content and methodology of contemporary Islamic studies; (b) what kind of knowledge integration can be brought forward in response to these changing contexts. This paper argues that contemporary Islamic studies should move towards al-dirasa al-Islamiyya al-muwassa’a (Islamic studies in its widest sense) by integrating Islamic and modern scholarship. This knowledge integration is strategic in producing knowledge that is both up-to-date and deep-rooted in society. It should also involve the integration of perspectives and worldviews so that it may lead to the production of balanced knowledge, in the sense of not being trapped in apologetics and excessive criticism. This knowledge integration will be more embedded in society if it is developed into a knowledge culture
Multicultural and multidisciplinary Islamic religious education and its significance for nurturing religious moderatism
In the last decade, Islamic Religious Education (IRE) has received a negative image because it is associated with the growth of religious radicalism, so the demands for applying religious moderation in IRE are getting stronger. This study aimed to find epistemological models that can direct IRE to align with religious moderation. Efforts to find answers were carried out by studying the thoughts of several figures of Islamic philosophy and contemporary Islamic studies, pursued by qualitative studies, supported by case studies, and enriched by surveys. The results showed that Musa Asy'arie's Multidimensional Concept, Amin Abdullah's Multidisciplinary-Interdisciplinary-Transdisciplinary Concept, and Siswanto Masruri's Science Collaboration Concept could serve as epistemological footholds in building a multicultural IRE that lead to religious moderation

Education in Indonesia has undergone many significant changes due to the Covid-19 pandemic, including its learning system. Blended learning is a combination of offline and online learning models. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of the blended learning model during the COVID-19 pandemic at the islamic elementary school level. Blended learning can be implemented either online or face-to-face. This qualitative descriptive study conducted observation, interviews, and documentation to collect the data. The blended learning model during the COVID-19 pandemic was potentially capable of delivering more innovative learning. However, several problems experienced by teachers, students, and parents were also noticed. Teachers’ problems included limited media to deliver material in online learning. Meanwhile, the student's problem lay in their lack of learning independence. While parents’ role in guiding their children was pivotal, not all parents were capable of doing it. Students could improve their understanding by confirming directly with the teacher during the offline class, and parents were helped by a direct explanation from the teacher during the offline class

Ḥaḍānah conflict resolution through litigation: analysis of sharia court decisions in Aceh
This research aims to analyze the resolution of ḥaḍānah conflicts through litigation, specifically the decisions of the Sharia Court in Aceh regarding child custody (ḥaḍānah) to find legal certainty. This research uses a normative-empirical type of research by integrating normative law and empirical law. Normative legal analysis is carried out by examining library archives or secondary data. This research uses laws and judges' decisions in ḥaḍānah cases at the Aceh Syariah Courts. The instruments used in collecting data are observation, interviews, and documents or literature studies. To obtain research data on the number of ḥaḍānah cases that were filed separately at the Sharia Court, the article draws on existing decisions starting from 2016-2021. In this research, 5 (five) Sharia Courts were taken as research samples with 32 ḥaḍānah cases, particularly the Sharia Courts in Langsa, Kuala Simpang, Idi, Jantho, and Takengon. The research applies the theory of legal objectives according to Gustav Radbruch: legal certainty, justice, and expediency. The research shows that legal certainty through the decision of the Sharia Court has been realized. However, this has not provided justice for children because many defendants have not complied with court decisions, especially the surrender of child custody according to court decisions and payment of monthly child support according to what has been decided by the court. Hence, the benefits of the court decisions on the ḥaḍānah case are still not maximized. The solution is to formulate a law that is capable of providing a deterrent effect for defendants unwilling to fulfill court compliance
Understanding the values of Islamic economics and Javanese philosophy pertaining to the work ethic of Muslim merchants in Salatiga
The work ethic of Javanese Muslim merchants may originate from religious teachings and Javanese philosophical values. Islamic teachings and Javanese philosophy contain values that edify prudence, caution, precision, optimism, patience, trust in God, harmony, cooperation, and mutual help, which result in a particular work ethic. Muslim merchants in traditional markets, still maintain work ethic manifested by economic practices based on Javanese philosophical aphorisms and Islamic teachings. This study is aimed at analyzing Muslim merchants’ understanding of work ethic as a motive for their actions in manifesting Islamic teachings and Javanese philosophical values aligned with the purposes of sharia (maqasid sharia). Case samples for the study were collected in Salatiga’s traditional markets. The study used the qualitative approach. Max Weber’s social action theory and Abdul Madjid Najjar’s maqasid sharia were used in the analysis. The study results show that merchants’ work ethic begins with their understanding of Islamic economics and Javanese philosophy, which are internalized in their attitude, behavior, and action. The merchants’ behavior, containing substantial values of Islamic teachings and Javanese philosophy, suggests the existence of instrumentally rational, value rational, affectual, and traditional social actions. The merchants’ motivations are categorized as efforts to realize maqasid by maintaining values of human life, human self, society, and physical environment. The merchants’ attitude has fulfilled the indicators for safeguarding faith and rights, human self and intellect, social entity and posterity, and wealth and ecology
