    No full text
This study aimed to explore legitimacy strategies in Islamic financial institutions andunderstand the process and reason for their shifting over time. A reflective approach was used towards literature data sources and a thematic analysis of interview results. Islamic Banking and financial institutions were seeking a legitimacy strategy by adopting sharia compliance to distinguish them from conventional banks. This study examined the development of Indonesia's Islamic banking and assessed responses from participants with an Islamic banking background. The results showed that the legitimacy strategy of Islamic banking changes over time. Initially, it used labeling, but the stakeholders' pressures and demands have led Islamic banking to change its strategy. It has moved through integrating financial and non-financial performance to a sharia compliance strategy. This study contributes to understanding Islamic banking's legitimacy strategy that has developed over time. Additionally, it helps develop a better legitimacy strategy in line with the future philosophical and ideological basis of Islamicbanking.

    No full text
The dynamics of Islam within the framework of Islamic majority and minority groups cannot be separated from the government’s role in maintaining religious tolerance. Minority groups such as Moro Muslims in the Philippines, Patani Muslims in Thailand, and Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar have illustrated the government’s minimal role in resolving conflicts between the majority and minorities. Therefore, this paper discusses the Muslim majority and minority groups in several countries and their relationship with the government to implement the practice of religious tolerance. This article uses a library method with a content analysis approach from relevant articles related to the government’s role in implementing religious tolerance practices in Southeast Asia. The study shows that the existence of Islam as a belief of a person and the people who are part of the state and government cannot be separated from one another. In other words, the state’s support for its people of various ethnicity, cultures, and religions will contribute to the peace of the state and the creation of state stability. The position of the majority and minority in the religious process will also influence religious institutions socially, economically, and culturally. Showing the expression of diversity in religious practices in the Southeast Asia region will create a new order in creating peace

This study employs the framework of responses proposed by Harris (1991), the notion of implicature as defined by Thomas (1995), and the dimensions of resistance introduced by Clayman (2001) to examine the types of responses in Malaysian Parliamentary Question Time. Analysis revealed the tendency of using direct, indirect, and evasive responses to specific questions for various reasons. Direct answers were observed in questions that could reflect positively on the government’s image. On the contrary, indirect answers were employed in questions that suggest clashing of goals between responders and questioners that could subsequently threaten the image of the government whereas negative presuppositions and the way questions are structured in parliament influence the production of evasion. Keywords: direct answer, evasive response, indirect answer, parliamentary discourse, political discourse

This paper aims to explain waqf fundraising and its communication among the waqf institutions of pesantrens in Indonesia. The study focuses on the application of innovative waqf fundraising and communication strategies in three waqf-based pesantrens, namely Pondok Darussalam Gontor, Darunnajah, and Tazakka. The primary data are obtained through semi-structured interviews, while the secondary data are collected through observations and document reviews. Both data provide important and useful insights into understanding the waqf fundraising and communication approaches in these waqf institutions. In addition, thematic analysis is utilised in this study to analyse the application of the waqf fundraising models that contribute significantly to the development of waqf in the sampled pesantrens. The results of the study suggest that different types of waqf institutions apply different waqf fundraising methods. Darussalam Gontor and Darunnajah waqf institutions have a similar propensity for using traditional waqf fundraising approaches in which mobilisation and collection of waqf utilise retail and partnership fundraising techniques. While, Tazakka waqf institution applies both modern (market-oriented) and traditional waqf fundraising methods, in which retail, partnership, and crowd (jamā’i) fundraising techniques are used for mobilisation of their waqf. In relation to communication, these three waqf institutions utilise the same methods, that is, individual and community-oriented communications for linking their waqf programmes and activities. These methods of communication are set up to build and manage stronger relationships with key wāqifs. Finally, the study found that these waqf institutions have implemented simple communication approaches and utilised an effective fundraising method in creating and maintaining individual and institutional contributions

At the end of 2019 the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, including Indonesia. Therefore, universities must adapt to the form of online lectures, including Mendeley’s online training services at the UMY library. During the training, the librarian discussed various things about Mendeley through Zoom. The purpose of this research is to find out how effective Mendeley’s online training is for students. This study uses mixed research (mix methods) using the explanatory sequential design model. However, the results of questionnaires and interviews show an increase in the ability to use Mendeley after attending online training. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that online learning is an alternative choice during the current pandemic in order to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the lecture environment. This also applies to the information literacy service provided by the UMY Library, namely the online Mendeley training

Having poor problem solving skills may cause someone to experience verbal bullying. Verbal bullying in adolescents can be manifested into several forms, for instance giving nicknames, reproaches, slander, cruel criticism, insults, gossip, ostracism, and so on. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to test the effectiveness of group guidance using the Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) approach in reducing students' verbal bullying. The research used the first experimental design in Pre-Experimental Design (non-design), namely One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design, which involved 16 students of MAN 2 Pekalongan. Data were collected using a verbal bullying behavior scale (r1=0.367-0.0650 =0.807), questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The data was then analysed using Wilcoxon signed ranks test. The results of the study showed that there were differences in their verbal bullying behavior (research subjects) after given the group guidance services, with Z = -2,358 and p-value = 0.018 (p = value 0.050). This indicates that group guidance using the REBT approach can reduce students' verbal bullying, so that the group guidance model using the REBT approach can be used to develop students' positive behavior
