Burnout status among Health and Non-Health Sciences students during the COVID-19 pandemic: A nutritional perspective
Objective The study aimed to assess the factors associated with burnout among university students studying online during the COVID-19 lockdown, with a focus on nutrition and lifestyle habits. Methods This cross-sectional web-based study was conducted with university students in T & uuml;rkiye. Demographic characteristics, dietary habits, dietary supplement usage, the Multidimensional COVID-19 scale, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Scale of university students were questioned with an online survey. Results A total of 747 students (health science faculties:68.9% and non-health faculties:31.1%) participated in the study. Non-health sciences students had higher median scores of emotional exhaustion (17 vs 15), cynicism (13 vs 10), and total Multi-Dimensional COVID-19 scale (84 vs 80) than health sciences students (respectively; p =0.001, p <0.001, p <0.001). The emotional exhaustion score was positively associated with thoughts about COVID-19 (R=0.266, R=0.266, p <0.001) and negatively with paying attention to diet (R= R=-1,142, p =0.005). Students who consumed meat, eggs, and legumes at least once a day had lower emotional exhaustion (R=-0.925, R=-0.925, p =0.029), cynicism scores (R=-0.804, R=-0.804, p =0.025), and higher academic efficacy (R= R= 0.550, p =0.034). Consumption of milk and dairy products at least once a day was negatively related to emotional exhaustion (R=-0.844, R=-0.844, p =0.033) and cynicism (R=-0.817, R=-0.817, p =0.015). Students who consumed at least five daily portions of fruit and vegetables had greater academic efficacy (R=0.669, R=0.669, p =0.015). Conclusion Faculty, grade, thoughts about COVID-19, precautions taken related to COVID-19, and paying attention to diet are the factors that affect students' burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic. Health education and adopting healthy eating habits are beneficial for combating burnout in critical periods such as pandemics
Unraveling the origins of construction rework: a holistic bibliometric analysis and exploration of causative factors
Purpose: Construction experts acknowledge the adverse effects of rework on project performance. However, the limited understanding of its underlying causes remains a significant challenge. Therefore, this study aimed to thoroughly investigate the sources of construction rework. Design/methodology/approach: A mixed review using bibliometric analysis as a quantitative method and content analysis as a qualitative method was performed to understand the current knowledge in the field. The Web of Science (WoS) was selected for its comprehensive collection of major research articles and integrated analytical tools for generating representative data. The study involved an extensive bibliometric analysis of 107 journal articles on rework causes from 1991 to 2023. RStudio Bibliometrix, an R statistical programming package, was used to analyze rework origins. This method involved mapping the research landscape, identifying research gaps and analyzing emerging trends. Findings: The causes of rework can be classified into three main clusters: human- and contractual-based rework causes, design-, quality- and project management-based rework causes and organizational-based rework causes. Originality/value: Although several studies have addressed rework causes from various perspectives and methods, the topic has not been investigated holistically. This study is the first to leverage the quantitative and qualitative analytical capabilities of the RStudio Bibliometrix package. Innovative approaches, including the use of metrics, such as the h-index, thematic mapping and trend topic analysis, were employed for a comprehensive understanding of rework causes. © 2024, Emerald Publishing Limited
Calibration and evaluation of various reference evapotranspiration estimation methods in a humid subtropical climate: A case study in Samsun Province, Türkiye
Reference evapotranspiration is crucial for estimating plant water needs and managing resources. Simplifying the Penman-Monteith model by reducing input parameters and local calibration can enhance efficiency and reliability. In this study, three empirical formulas—Hargreaves and Samani (HS, 1985), Priestley and Taylor (PT, 1972), and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO, 1966)—representing temperature-, solar radiation-, and mass-transfer-based approaches, respectively, were evaluated. To achieve this objective, meteorological data from five synoptic stations situated in the Samsun province in the Black Sea region of Türkiye, were utilized. Three methods, namely the traditional method, regression analysis, and genetic algorithm, were employed to estimate the local calibration coefficients of empirical equations based on the Penman-Monteith 56 equation. Finally, the outcomes were evaluated based on four criteria: root-mean-square error, coefficient of determination, mean bias error, and percentage error of estimate. The results of empirical formulas both before and after calibration were analyzed. Prior to calibration, HS and PT exhibited greater accuracy for the case study. This accuracy trend was also observed in the calibrated results. Additionally, among the three employed calibration methods, regression analysis and traditional methods demonstrated a higher level of accuracy
Determining the awareness of surgical nurses regarding frail patients: A cross-sectional study
Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the knowledge level and awareness of surgical nurses about fragile patients. Method: Obtained through Introductory Information Survey Form created by the researchers and Fragile Patient Information Evaluation Form methods. Results: The average age of the surgical nurses participating in the study was 28±5.01 years, the average professional experience was 5±5.09 years, and the average experience in the service they worked in was 3±2.83 years. The rate of those who heard the term 'frailty' for the first time is 63%. It was stated that 92.7% of the 110 surgical nurses participating in the study did not receive any training on fragility; It was stated that 50.9% of them think of the most vulnerable and weak patient when they think of a fragile patient. While 50% of them stated that when they suspected frailty in the patient, they evaluated involuntary weight loss, slowness (slowness in walking, muscle weakness), and fatigue; 70% stated that the biggest risk factor for frailty is being depressed or using antidepressant medication. Conclusions: According to the results of the study, it can be said that the awareness of surgical nurses about the "fragile patient" should be increased. In the light of the data obtained, it can be suggested to organize trainings on "fragile patients" for surgical nurses. 'Fragile patient' education should be included in pre-graduation education and in-service training

Denge eğitimi bu hastaların tedavisinde uygulanabilir bir yaklaşım olarak düşünülebilir.Özlem Sayılır Pektaş, Investigation of the Effects of Balance Training on Balance, Pain and Kinesiophobia in Patients with Cervical Discopathy, Hasan Kalyoncu University Graduate Education Institute, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Master's Thesis, Gaziantep 2023. A total of 64 individuals, 40 women and 24 men, aged between 18 and 65 years, were included in the study, which was conducted to investigate the effects of balance training on balance, pain and kinesiophobia in patients with cervical discopathy. Individuals were divided into three groups, in accordance with the inclusion criteria, by simple random method: study group (n = 22), classical group (n = 21) and control group (n = 21). Conservative physiotherapy modalities (Hot Pack, Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation, Ultrasound) and posture exercises were given to the classical group, and balance training was given to the study group, which was done at home in addition to the classical group. The control group was healthy individuals and was not treated. The classical and study groups received 15 sessions of 45min. treatment for three weeks. Patients were evaluated 3 times: before, after and at the 8th week of treatment. Demographic information of individuals, McGill Pain Scale Short Form in pain assessment, In neck disability evaluation, neck disability index was used. In the evaluation of dynamic balance, fall risks were recorded using the Y Balance Test, Functional Reach Test and Tetrax Interactive Balance System. Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale was used to evaluate kinesiophobia. In pain evaluation, it was determined that it decreased significantly in the study group and the classical group after treatment compared to the initial values (p<0.05). A similar improvement was seen in the Neck Disability Index score in both groups (p<0.05). It was determined that it increased significantly in both groups in the Y Balance Test and Functional Extension Test (p<0.05). According to Tetrax Interactive Balance Data, it was determined that balance improved in both groups, but there were no significant differences (p>0.05). It was observed that the kinesiophobia evaluation decreased in both groups, but did not create statistically significant differences (p>0.05). Considering the results obtained, in intra-group comparisons in terms of pain, neck disability, balance and kinesiophobia, a significant difference was obtained in favor of post-treatment in both groups (p <0.05). As a result, in our study, it was seen that balance training had more healing effects on pain, neck disability, balance and kinesiophobia in patients with cervical discopathy, and balance exercises given in addition to classical physiotherapy had greater healing effects. Balance training can be considered a feasible approach in the treatment of these patients. Key Words: Cervical Discopathy, Pain, Balance, Kinesiophobi
