Argon X-ray absorption in the local interstellar medium
We present the first comprehensive analysis of the argon K-edge absorption region (3.1-4.2 & Aring;) using high-resolution HETGS Chandra spectra of 33 low-mass X-ray binaries. Utilizing R-matrix theory, we computed new K photoabsorption cross sections for Ar I-Ar XVI species. For each X-ray source, we estimated column densities for the Ar I, Ar II, Ar III, Ar XVI, Ar XVII, and Ar XVIII ions, which trace the neutral, warm, and hot components of the gaseous Galactic interstellar medium. We examined their distribution as a function of Galactic latitude, longitude, and distances to the sources. However, no significant correlations were discerned among distances, Galactic latitude, or longitude. Future X-ray observatories will allow us to benchmark the atomic data as the main resonance lines will be resolved
Analysis of medical rehabilitation needs of 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake victims: Adıyaman example
Background: Natural disasters, particularly earthquakes, result in numerous injuries, including spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, limb amputations, fractures, and peripheral nerve injuries. This study aimed to investigate the types of orthopedic injuries sustained by earthquake survivors who require long-term rehabilitation, as well as to assess the rehabilitation programs, orthoses, prostheses, and assistive devices employed. Methods: This descriptive analysis was conducted at a physical medicine and rehabilitation clinic. Data on earthquake survivors were recorded retrospectively. The study included survivors who presented to the clinic between April 15, 2023, and May 1, 2024, with injuries sustained during the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023. The types of orthopedic injuries, rehabilitation programs, and orthoses-prostheses used were documented. Results: Data from 223 earthquake survivors were analyzed. Among these, 97 (43.5%) had compartment syndrome, 65 (29.1%) had amputations, 57 (25.6%) had fractures, 20 (9%) had peripheral nerve injuries, 12 (5.4%) had soft tissue injuries, and two (0.9%) had dislocations. Physiotherapy was provided to 211 (94.6%) patients, occupational therapy to 56 (25.1%), amputation rehabilitation to 65 (29.1%), and electrotherapy to 12 (5.3%). Prostheses were fitted for 37 (16.5%) amputees, orthoses were used by 57 (25.6%) patients, and 103 (46.1%) required assistive devices. Conclusion: Among earthquake-related injuries requiring medical rehabilitation, compartment syndrome was the most common. The rehabilitation process of patients who developed compartment syndrome and amputation continues 1 year after the earthquake. Adults were the most frequently affected age group. The data obtained in this study will help plan local health services to coordinate medical rehabilitation in earthquakes. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd
Artificial hybrid neural network-based simultaneous scheme for solving nonlinear equations: Applications in engineering
A novel three-step simultaneous scheme for finding all distinct and multiple roots of non-linear equations are developed in this paper. Analysis of convergence demonstrates that the newly created scheme has an order of convergence of eight. A hybrid neural network-based simultaneous technique is also developed to expedite convergence. Neural network-based approaches outperform existing methods in terms of iterations, error, and CPU time, as demonstrated by the engineering applications' results. The analysis of the considered approaches on random starting approximations reveals that the newly proposed methods are more stable and consistent than previous methods
Unveiling the power of nation branding: Exploring the ımpact of economic factors on global ımage perception
Nation branding, which demonstrates countries’ power on an international platform, has gained prominence in the literature in recent years. How countries can build their strategies around these factors and make themselves attractive has become an issue of increasing interest to countries in recent years. Increasing a country’s role in the political arena, making the country more attractive to tourists, increasing the volume of foreign trade and foreign direct investment, and making the country more attractive in terms of skilled labor will improve its reputation and image, as perceived by other countries. The main objective of the study is to investigate the impact of foreign direct investment, tourism expenditure, human capital, and export on nation branding in the ten countries with the highest value in nation branding (USA, Germany, China, Japan, England, France, Italy, Canada, India, South Korea) applying the dynamic panel data model for the period 2010–2020. In the present study, we use the cross-sectional dependence, the slope homogeneity test, the CIPS unit root test, and the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) method, one of the dynamic panel data methods. This study examined the factors involved in nation branding and found a positive and statistically significant relationship between exports, foreign direct investment, tourism, human capital, and nation branding. © 2024 by the authors
Neonatal ıntensive care nurses' perceptions of artificial ıntelligence: A qualitative study on discharge education and family counseling
Objective: This study aims to examine neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurses’ perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly language models, and their impact on nursing practices. Background: AI is rapidly spreading in healthcare, transforming nursing practice. Understanding the role of AI in NICUs in the discharge process is crucial for understanding nurses’ perceptions of these technologies. Methods: The qualitative, phenomenological study used semi-structured interviews. Data were collected in a public hospital in Gaziantep from January to June 2024. Fifteen NICU nurses participated. Data were analyzed using content analysis. Results: Most nurses found AI to be a valuable tool for saving time and simplifying information delivery in clinical processes. However, concerns were raised about AI potentially reducing human interaction and weakening the use of professional judgment. Serious concerns about AI’s reliability and ethical implications were also expressed. Conclusions: AI is considered a potentially supportive tool in nursing practice, but its integration must consider the ethical implications and impact on the use of professional judgment. Nursing is based on human interactions and AI should be considered an additive tool to enhance care. Implications for practice and research: AI integration in nursing requires careful and balanced implementation. Future research should delve deeper into the ethical dimensions of AI and its long-term effects on nursing practices. Copyright © 2024 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. All rights reserved
Adaptation of the computational thinking skills assessment tool (techcheck-k) in early childhood
In the early years, it has become essential to support the acquisition of computational thinking, which is seen as a 21st-century skill and new literacy. A valid and reliable measurement tool is needed to develop and evaluate educational practices related to these skills. TechCheck is a validated unplugged assessment of computational thinking skills for young children. (Relkin & Bers in IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON) in 2021 (pp. 1696–1702), 2021; Relkin et al. in Journal of Science Education and Technology 29(4):482–498, 2020). This study aims to adapt and characterize a Turkish version of TechCheck-K for children aged 5–6. Validity and reliability of the Turkish version were established through classical test theory and item response theory, as had been done for the original English language version. Based on classical test theory, the confirmatory factor analysis used A tetrachoric weighted matrix to test the instrument’s structure. The one-dimensional structure of the instrument was verified. The KR-20 reliability coefficient for the scale consisting of one dimension and 15 items was.87, which is considered an acceptable level of reliability. Rasch and 2PL models were compared with M2 statistics to determine the item and test parameters based on item response theory (IRT). The 2PL model was chosen as the best fit. Mean TechCheck scores differed based on gender, socio-economic status, past exposure to computers, and coding experience. These results indicate that the Turkish version of TechCheck-K has acceptable psychometric properties for measuring computational thinking skills in children between 5 and 6 years of age. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V
The cheque, which provides many benefits and whose function is increasing, occupies an important place today because it is one of the most frequently used payment tools in commercial life. In practice, the cheque is similar to the credit transaction due to the fact that since it can be drawn as post-dated. However, the fact that the cheque can be drawn as post-dated brings legal problems with it. In particular, if the cheque is deemed dishonored (unrequited) after being presented to the addressee bank, creates an important problem in commercial life and reduces the trust in it. In order to prevent this, due to -related- legal regulations, the act of having a dishonored bill of change is subject to legal and criminal sanctions. In this context, in our master’s thesis titled “The Crime of Causing the Unrequited Transaction in the Cheque”, the criminal consequences of the act of making the unrequited transaction related to the cheque were examined.
In this framework, within the scope of our work, first the definition of the cheque within the framework of the provisions of the Turkish Commercial Code and the Cheque Law, the history of the cheque and the legal nature and elements of cheque are determined; then the concept of unrequited, the history of the related sanctions and the criminal consequences of cheque submitted to the addressee during the payment period are explained.

New method for autonomous learning of BLS psychomotor skills: Pillow mannequin: Randomized controlled study
Background: Evidence supporting the benefits of autonomous learning of basic life support, such as rapid outcomes and cost-effectiveness, is increasing. Reports supporting the autonomous learning of cognitive skills in basic life support exist. However, there is currently no report supporting the autonomous learning of psychomotor skills in basic life support. Aim: This study aimed to assess how using a research-developed pillow-made mannequin affects autonomous learning of psychomotor skills in basic life support training. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Setting: This study was conducted in a nursing school in Turkey. Participants: Sixty-one (n = 61) third-year formal science undergraduate students. Methods: At XXX University, 61 nursing students were divided into Intervention (n = 31) and Control Groups (n = 30). Students in both groups received basic life support training, including live demonstrations. Intervention Group students practiced with the mannequin for 15 days. Skill assessments were conducted by two independent evaluators using a real mannequin 15 days later and six months later. Researchers used a checklist to assess psychomotor skills. Results: The sociodemographic characteristics of both student groups were similar. There was no significant difference in cognitive knowledge levels after the blended training (p > 0.05). However, at both post-intervention assessments, after 15 days and after 6 months, significant skill differences emerged in “placing the index finger on the ends of the sternum,” “combining the thumbs in the middle,” “defining the lower sternum as a massage point,” “placing the base of the chest” “placing the weaker hand at the massage point,” “placing the body perpendicular to the ribcage,” and “performing 30 compressions.” Cohen's kappa value was calculated as 0.932. Conclusion: Use of the mannequin facilitates autonomous learning of psychomotor skills and promotes accurate application.
