Evaluation of effect and optimizing of process parameters for fused deposition modeling parts on tensile properties via Taguchi method
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of printing parameters on the mechanical properties of standard dog bone specimens manufactured by fused deposition modeling. Design/methodology/approach: Polylactic acid (PLA) specimens were printed and tested according to the ASTM standard. The effect of five important printing parameters, layer height, raster angle, printing speed, nozzle temperature and nozzle diameter, was examined on ultimate tensile strength (UTS), elongation and apparent density. Five levels were attended for each parameter, and a high number of required experiments were reduced by applying the L25 Taguchi design of the experiment. Findings: The effect of each parameter on outputs and optimal values for maximum tensile strength were determined. The most influential parameter is the raster angle of 64.96%. Nozzle temperature has a low effect of 1.76%, but nozzle diameter contribution is 9.77%. The experiment results are validated by analysis of variance analysis, and the optimal predicted level for parameters is 90° raster angle, 0.2 mm layer height, 100 mm/s printing speed, 200°C nozzle temperature and 0.8 mm nozzle diameter. The maximum UTS observed is 48.70 MPa for 0.8 mm nozzle diameter, whereas the minimum is 18.49 for 0.2 mm nozzle diameter. Originality/value: This paper is a very extensive experimental research report on the effect of the parameters for the tensile property of 3D printed PLA specimens by the Taguchi method. The psychopolitics of motherhood in post-conflict public policies: The cases of the PKK and ISIS
After discussing the reconstruction of heritage sites in post-conflict regions, this chapter takes up the unique angle of psychopolitics to look at the potential power of motherhood in post-conflict public policy-making. The current research on conflict and its psychopolitical impacts is mostly centered around individuals; either the victims or the perpetrators (Jensen et al., Terrorism and Political Violence 32:1067-1090, 2020). The Effect of Precolonoscopy Lavender Inhalation on Patient Anxiety and Comfort A Randomized, Controlled, Double-Blinded, Single-Center Study
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of lavender oil inhalation on the anxiety and comfort levels of patients scheduled for colonoscopy. Seventy-three experimental group patients scheduled for colonoscopy at a training and research hospital in the west of Turkey in June to September 2022 and 72 control group patients were included in this randomized, controlled, prospective study. Minimal sedation (propofol 2-3 mg/kg) was applied in both groups. Lavender inhalation was applied to the experimental group, whereas the control group patients received nursing care (vital sign monitoring, prevention of complications, and rest). The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Shortened General Comfort Questionnaire were used for pre- and postprocedural data collection. Median ages were 53.00 years (47.25-59.00) in the experimental group patients and 51.00 (44.00-59.5) in the control group. Although postprocedural state anxiety scores were lower in the experimental group compared with the control group, the difference was not statistically significant (p = .069). The general postcolonoscopy comfort score was significantly higher in the experimental group compared with the control group (p < .001). Trait anxiety scores also increased as the number of colonoscopies increased in both groups. We conclude that lavender oil inhalation, a simple and inexpensive intervention, increases patient comfort while exhibiting a positive, albeit statistically insignificant, effect on anxiety.The authors are grateful to all the participants and clinicians associated with the study.The authors are grateful to all the participants and clinicians associated with the study
Evaluation of Potential Effects of Increased Outdoor Temperatures Due to Global Warming on Cerebral Blood Flow Rate and Respiratory Function in Chronic Obstructive Disease and Anemia
Global warming due to increased outdoor carbon dioxide (CO2) levels may cause several health problems such as headaches, cognitive impairment, or kidney dysfunction. It is predicted that further increases in CO2 levels will increase the morbidity and mortality of patients affected by a variety of diseases. For instance, patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) may suffer cognitive impairments or intracranial bleeding due to an increased cerebral blood flow rate. Predicting the harmful effects of global warming on human health will help to take measures for potential problems. Therefore, the quantification of physiological parameters is an essential step to investigate the effects of global warming on human health. In this study, the effects of increased outdoor temperatures due to climate change on cerebral blood flow rate and respiratory function in healthy subjects and COPD patients with anemia and respiratory acidosis are evaluated utilizing numerical simulations. The numerical model simulates cardiac function and blood circulation in systemic, pulmonary and cerebral circulations, cerebral autoregulatory functions, respiratory function, alveolar gas exchange, oxygen (O2) and CO2 contents, and hemoglobin levels in the blood. The simulation results show that although the cardiovascular function is not significantly altered, the respiratory function and cerebral blood flow rates are altered remarkably. Predicting the harmful effects of global warming on human health will help to take measures for potential problems. Therefore, the quantification of physiological parameters is an essential step to investigate the effects of global warming on human health. Flow control over a circular cylinder using vortex generators: Particle image velocimetry analysis and machine-learning-based prediction of flow characteristics
Controlling the flow around circular cylinders is crucial to mitigate vortex-induced vibrations and prevent structural damage in a range of applications, such as marine and offshore engineering, tall buildings, long-span bridges, transport ships, and heat exchangers. In this study, we aimed to control the turbulent flow structure around a circular cylinder by placing vortex generators (VGs). We examined the flow structure using particle image velocimetry (PIV). This enabled quantitative data acquisition, intuitive flow visualization, and drag coefficient determination from PIV data. We developed artificial neural network (ANN) models that successfully predict both mean and instantaneous flow characteristics for different scenarios. Our findings show that using VGs elongated the wake and increased vortex formation lengths while reducing velocity fluctuations and the drag coefficient. A minimum drag coefficient of 0.718 was achieved with VGs oriented at alpha = 60 degrees & beta = 60 degrees, reducing the drag by 35.3% compared to the bare cylinder. The drag coefficient exhibited a substantial inverse correlation with both wake and vortex formation lengths. The Effects of Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy on Body Satisfaction, Self-Esteem, Quality of Life, and Psychopathology in People with Female-to-Male Gender Dysphoria
Purpose: Gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) is one of the most important therapeutic interventions sought by people with gender dysphoria (GD). In the present study, we aimed to examine the effects of GAHT on body satisfaction, self-esteem, quality of life, and psychopathology in people with female-to-male (FtM) GD. Methods: Thirty-seven FtM GD participants who did not receive any gender-affirming therapy, 35 FtM GD participants who received GAHT for over 6 months, and 38 cisgender women were included in the study. The Body Cathexis Scale (BCS), Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES), World Health Organization's Quality of Life Questionnaire Brief Form (WHOQOL-BREF), and Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) were completed by all participants. Results: The BCS scores of the untreated group were significantly lower than both the GAHT group and the female controls (p<0.001); while the WHOQOL-BREF-psychological health scores of the untreated group were significantly lower than those of the female controls (p=0.003). The psychoticism subscale scores on the SCL-90-R of the untreated group were higher than those of the GAHT group (p=0.04) as well as the female controls (p=0.003). With regard to the RSES, there were no significant differences between the groups. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that people with FtM GD who receive GAHT are more satisfied with their bodies and have less psychopathological problems compared to those who do not receive GAHT, but their quality of life and self-esteem do not change as a result of GAHT. A Numerical Study of the Interaction of Waves for 2D Riemann Problem

It is known that one of the main properties of mentioned problem is that, in the solution of the problem have discontinuity surfaces whose locations are unknown beforehand, even if the initial function is sufficiently smooth. The existence of discontinuity surfaces arises difficulties to find of physical genuine solution by using classical methods. Our aim is to examine the interactions of the waves emerging in solution of the problem in which initial profile having discontinuity surfaces. To this end, we introduce an auxiliary problem that has advantages over the main problem, and using these advantages, an original finite difference method to solve of the auxiliary problem is d eveloped. The solution of the auxiliary problem is used to find the weak solution of the main p roblem. In addition, the auxiliary problem allows writing a higher order finite difference scheme with respect to the time variable. Using the proposed finite difference scheme, computer tests were carried out and the interaction dynamics of shock and rarefaction waves that emerged in the solution of the problem were investigated. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc.. The medium role of problem-focused cooperation and perceived social support in the relationship between psychological resilience and post-traumatic growth in veterans of terror

Çalışma kapsamında verileri 185 terör gazisine "Kişisel Bilgi Formu", "Psikolojik Dayanıklılık Ölçeği", "Stresle Başa Çıkma Yolları Ölçeği-Problem Odaklı Başa Çıkma alt boyutu", "Algılanan Sosyal Destek Ölçeği" ve "Travma Sonrası Büyüme Ölçeği" uygulanmıştır. Bu araştırma, nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden ilişkisel desende yürütülmüştür. Tezde, ilgili değişkenlerin travma sonrası büyümeye olan etkilerinin gösterildiği yapısal eşitlik modeli geliştirilmiş ve test edilmiştir. Tezde, aracılık etkilerinin analizinde Ki-kare farklılık testlerine dayanan iç-içe geçmiş modeller stratejisi kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca aracı etkilerin anlamlılığının değerlendirilmesi için Bootstrapping tekniğinden yararlanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, psikolojik dayanıklılık, problem odaklı başa çıkma üzerinde pozitif yönde anlamlı bir açıklayıcı olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Öte yandan, psikolojik dayanıklılık, algılanan sosyal destek üzerinde pozitif yönde anlamlı bir açıklayıcı olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Psikolojik dayanıklılık, travma sonrası büyüme arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı bir açıklayıcı olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Algılanan sosyal destek, problem odaklı başa çıkma üzerinde pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Problem odaklı başa çıkma, travma sonrası büyüme arasında anlamlı bir ilişki tespit edilmemiştir. Algılanan sosyal destek, travma sonrası büyüme arasındaki ilişkide pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki tespit edilmiştir. İlişkisel bulguların elde edilmesiyle, araştırmadaki modelin uyum indekslerine bakılmıştır. Yapısal Psikolojik dayanıklılıkla travma sonrası büyüme arasındaki ilişkide, algılanan sosyal desteğin kısmi aracılık etkisi saptanmıştır. Psikolojik dayanıklılıkla travma sonrası büyüme arasındaki ilişkide problem odaklı yaklaşımın aracılık ilişkisi saptanmamıştır. Travma sonrası büyümenin en önemli belirleyicilerinden birinin psikolojik dayanıklılık kişilik özelliği olduğu bulunmuştur. Buna göre, travmatik deneyimi olan bireylerde psikolojik dayanıklılık düzeyi artıkça travma sonrası büyüme düzeyinin de artacağı ifade edilebilir. Bulgular, alanyazın bağlamında tartışılmış, araştırma sonuçlarına dayalı ve gelecekte yapılacak çalışmalara yönelik önerilerde bulunulmuştur.The aim of this study is to examine the effect of problem-focused coping and perceived social support on the relationship between psychological resilience and post-traumatic growth in terror veterans. Within the scope of the study, the "Personal Information Form", "Psychological Resilience Scale", "The Ways of Coping with Stress Scale-Problem-Focused Coping sub-dimension", "Perceived Social Support Scale" and "Post Traumatic Growth Scale" were applied to 185 terror veterans. This research was carried out in relational design, which is one of the quantitative research methods. In the thesis, a structural equation model was developed and tested, showing the effects of related variables on post-traumatic growth. In the thesis, a nested models strategy based on Chi-square difference tests was used in the analysis of mediation effects. In addition, Bootstrapping technique was used to evaluate the significance of mediating effects. According to the findings, it was determined that resilience was a positive and significant explanatory factor on problem-focused coping. On the other hand, resilience was found to be a positive and significant explanatory factor on perceived social support. It has been observed that there is a positive and significant explanatory factor between psychological resilience and post-traumatic growth. It has been determined that there is a positive and significant relationship on perceived social support and problem-focused coping. No significant relationship was found between problem-focused coping and post-traumatic growth. A positive and significant relationship was found in the relationship between perceived social support and post-traumatic growth. By obtaining the relational findings, the fit indices of the model in the research were examined. A partial mediation effect of perceived social support was found in the relationship between Structural Resilience and post-traumatic growth. No mediation relationship was found between the problem-focused approach and the relationship between resilience and post-traumatic growth. It has been found that one of the most important determinants of post-traumatic growth is the resilience personality trait. Accordingly, it can be stated that as the level of psychological resilience increases in individuals with traumatic experience, the level of post-traumatic growth will also increase. The findings were discussed in the context of the literature, and suggestions were made for future studies based on the research results
