Development of a new generation flotation cell and monitoring of air bubbles

    No full text
The flotation process allows particles and oil to separate from wastewater with high efficiency. Therefore, it is widely used in engineering and is a multidisciplinary field of study. In this study, a new generation flotation method is developed as an alternative to conventional flotation methods. Some experiments are conducted to determine the performance of this new system. It is known that the air-demand rate in the flotation process directly improves flotation performance. For this purpose, maximum aeration efficiency and bubble properties in the flotation cell supported by the newly developed head gated conduit are examined. A pilot-scale flotation system is installed for the experimental study. With the help of high resolution and high-speed cameras, parameters such as air bubble density, air bubble size, dead zone volume and penetration depth are determined. In addition, the images recorded during the flotation process are examined with professional image processing techniques. Experimental results showed that the Froude number, jet plunge angle and cell water levels have a significant impact on air-demand in the new system

Synergic Exploitation of TCAD and Deep Neural Networks for Nonlinear FinFET Modeling

20th International Conference on Smart Technologies, EUROCON 2023 -- 6 July 2023 through 8 July 2023 -- -- 191482Accurate large-signal (LS) modeling of Fin Field-Effect Transistors (FinFETs) plays an important role in designing microwave circuits for the next generation of communication systems and quantum sensing. In this work we propose preliminary results on a novel approach to LS FinFET modeling, that translates the X-parameters from physical TCAD analysis into deep neural networks (DNNs). The proposed method includes two phases. First, the X-parameters of nonlinear active device are extracted trough accurate TCAD physical simulations. Then, a long short-term memory (LSTM)-based DNN is employed for ANN modelling, to reproduce the scattered waves for any given incident waves up to the 5th harmonic. Similarly to X-parameters, the proposed DNN model simulates the transistor behavior around the large-signal operating point. Unlike the original X-parameter method, though, the DNN approach can incorporate the dependency on bias or other technological and physical parameters in a seamless and numerically efficient way. Hence, once implemented into circuit simulators, it allows for faster and more accurate circuit design. © 2023 IEEE.Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca, MIURACKNOWLEDGMENT This work has been supported by the Italian Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca (MIUR) under the PRIN 2017 Project “Empowering GaN-on-SiC and GaN-on-Si technologies for the next challenging millimeter-wave applications (GANAPP)

The novel Mutercim as a site of transfiction: A case of translation in life and the translation of life in the transformational republican era in Turkey

    No full text
Translation has a rich history in Ottoman and Turkish literature, and a study of transmesis in a transfiction has great potentials for analyzing the praxis and pragmatics of translation in Turkey. This study focuses on the translational action in the mirror of fiction with a case study on the Turkish novel Mutercim (2013) [Translator] by Alper Gurkan. Investigating translation both as a performance (i.e., text) and an experience (i.e., agency), the analysis is constructed upon four categories: 1) actual translation in its technical sense; (2) the agency of the translator as a subject and object of the translation; (3) figurative/metaphoric use of translation; and (4) the potentials of mistranslation vis-a-vis pseudotranslation. The multi-layered translational baggage of the novel serves as a site par excellence to delimit the definition of translation, which begins as a faithful translation and ends up as an almost genuine writing, a mistranslation in the novel. Skillfully imposed attributions to change, transformation, fragmentation, and dislocation under a translational context determine the fate of both the text and the agent in Mutercim: corrupted and originally lost. This elegy for origins resonates in the discourse of the author as neo-Ottoman fantasy where we witness the emergence of translation as the lieu of historical criticism under the guise of a transfiction

The analysis and validation of natural frequencies and mode shapes of 3D plates in the framework of the generalized thermoelastic theory

    No full text
This article considers thermal effects that induce thermoelastic damping and, which, consequently, because of the absorbed thermal energy, cause thermal stresses. The problem is stated in the framework of the generalized thermoelastic theory. The natural frequency and mode shape analyzes of 3D plates are presented under uniform and nonuniform heating. From the modeling point of view, this results in the quadratic eigenvalue problem where complex frequencies and modes are obtained. Moreover, the quality factor related to the thermoelastic damping is also calculated in terms of the imaginary and the real parts of the frequencies for both the uniform and nonuniform thermal distributions. The variation of natural frequencies with temperature is investigated and compared with the experimental results for the plates with free boundary conditions. The first two mode shapes are also examined for all clamped edges for the uniform and nonuniform cases. Complex frequencies and complex modes are observed due to the thermal effects. For the uniform case, the real part of the modes decreases and the complex part increases, while the mode’s norm remains the same as in the classical modes as temperature increases. For the nonuniform case, the mode shape analysis is performed under the assumption that the elasticity modulus, thermal expansion, and specific heat parameters are functions of temperature. The peak point of the out-of-plane displacement is shown to be shifted toward the warm zone. The obtained outcomes may help design thermal structures and allow for future extensions. © 2022 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.Scientific and Research Council of Turkey; Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu, TÜBİTA

    No full text
Objectives: Vestibular dysfunction occasionally accompanies sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) due to anatomical proximity of cochlea and vestibule. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the vestibular system objectively and subjectively in 40 -to 65 -year -old individuals with and without SNHL. Methods: This study included participants of both sexes, between the ages of 40 and 65 years old. There were 31 participants with SNHL and 31 control participants. First of all, participants were grouped in the control and SNHL groups based on the results of their hearing test, which included audiometry and immitance evaluation. Subsequently, for vestibular evaluation, each participant was evaluated subjective with Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) as well as with objective tests battery that included positional tests with videonystagmogrophy (VNG) and vestibuloocular reflex (VOR) assessment using the vestibular head impulse test (vHIT). Results: Peripheral nystagmus was found to be significantly higher in patients with SNHL based on the head shake and positional tests (p<0.05). There was a positive correlation between DHI scores and positional test findings of the participants with SNHL (p<0.05). When the VHIT VOR gain values were compared between groups, there was no significant difference (p<0.05). Conclusion: In our study, vestibular involvement was frequently observed in 40- to 65 -year -old individuals with SNHL. Therefore, vestibular evaluation should be considered along with the assessment of hearing in individuals with SNHL who are over 40 years old

Near-threshold structures in the Ds plus Ds- mass distribution of the decay B plus ? Ds plus Ds- K

    No full text
Two near-threshold peaking structures with spin-parities JPC = 0++ were recently discovered by the LHCb Collaboration in the D+s D-s invariant mass distribution of the decay B+ -> D+s D-s K+. The first of them is the resonance X(3960), whereas the second one, X0(4140), is a structure with the mass around 4140 MeV. To explore their natures and model them, we study the hadronic molecule M = D+s D-s and calculate its mass, current coupling, and width. The mass and current coupling of the molecule are extracted from the QCD two-point sum rule analyses by taking into account vacuum condensates up to dimension 10. To evaluate its full width, we consider the processes M -> D+s D-s , M -> eta c eta(0), and M -> J=psi phi. Partial widths of these decays are determined by the strong couplings gi; i = 1, 2, 3, 4 at vertices MD+s D-s , M eta c eta(0), and MJ=psi phi. They are computed by means of the three-point sum rule method. Predictions for the mass m = (4117 +/- 85) MeV and width Gamma M = (62 +/- 12) MeV of the molecule M are compared with the corresponding LHCb data, and also with our results for the diquark-antidiquark state X = [cs][c over bar s over bar ]. We argue that the structure X0(4140) may be interpreted as the hadronic molecule D+s D-s , whereas the resonance X(3960) can be identified with the tetraquark X
