The relationship between university students’ psychological resilience and anxiety levels and comparison in terms of physical activity levels gender and academic achievement
Background: Psychological resilience is the adaptation of individual in the face of negative situations and the ability to fight these situations. Since university life can be stressful, university students are considered as a risk group in terms of psychological resilience. The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between psychological resilience levels and anxiety levels of university students and to make comparisons in terms of physical activity levels, gender and academic achievement.
Material and methods: 360 university students voluntarily participated in research. Short Psychological Resilience Scale, Beck Anxiety Inventory and International Physical Activity Questionnaire were used in the research.
Results: According to findings, there was a negative relationship between students' psychological resilience and anxiety levels. In terms of gender, there was no significant difference between resilience levels and anxiety levels. A significant difference was found between resilience and anxiety levels in favor of students' doing physical activity. It has been found that students who are 'academically good' are more resilient than students who are academically moderate and worse, and their total anxiety levels are also lower
Conclusions: As a result, it can be said that doing regular sports positively affects students' psychological resilience and anxiety
Determination of short-term effects of wild fire on soil properties and nitrogen mineralization in Turkish pine (Pinus brutia ten.) in Turkey (the case of sariçiçek sub-district directorate)
Forest fires are one of the factors that play an important role in both global warming and nutrient accumulation in soils. The level of these effects varies according to the severity and intensity of the fire. This study was conducted to determine the one-year effects of fire on soil properties and nitrogen mineralization in Turkish Pine stands exposed to low-intensity surface fire that naturally occurred at the Sarıçiçek region the Vezirköprü district of Samsun province in 2014, in Turkey. To this end, six sampling areas were selected from both burned and unburned (control) areas in the sections. Soil samples were taken from a depth of 0-5 cm and 5-10 cm. Nitrogen mineralization was determined by the land incubation in 3 periods (April-July-October, 2014) on-site holding method. Among soil properties, texture, pH, organic matter, total nitrogen, bulk density and carbon (C) / nitrogen (N) ratio analyses were assessed. As a conclusion, it was observed that significant differences occurred in soil properties and nitrogen mineralization temporarily. Average nitrogen mineralization at a depth of 0-10 cm over the one-year period was found to be 23.56 kg /ha in the burned areas and 25.2 kg/ha in the control areas. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the fire was more effective, especially at a depth of 0-5 cm in regards to changing the soil properties. Nitrogen mineralization at a depth of 0-5 cm was greater in the burned areas compared to controls. It was determined that especially low-intensity fires were not effective toward the lower depth levels

Gallic acid reduces experimental colitis in rats by downregulation of cathepsin and oxidative stress
Objective: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with common, repetitive inflammation
of the colon and rectum, which is highly defined by loss of blood on colon mucosa, ulceration and acute inflammation. The
present study aimed to investigate the potential protective effects of gallic acid (GA) through a 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic
acid (TNBS)-induced colitis rat model, using biochemical and histopathological parameters.
Materials and Methods: The study consisted of four groups, each including seven rats, namely control group, colitis group,
colitis-GA 50 mg/kg group and colitis-GA 100 mg/kg group. Colon tissue samples were analyzed for malondialdehyde
(MDA), myeloperoxidase (MPO), cathepsin B and cathepsin L values.
Results: Tissue MDA, MPO, cathepsin L and cathepsin B values increased significantly in colitis group (p=0.028, p=0.038,
p=0.024, p=0.019, respectively). However, MDA, MPO, cathepsin L and cathepsin B values showed a significant decrease
in animals with GA (at a dose of 100 mg/kg) administration in TNBS-induced colitis in rats (p=0.021, p=0.026, p=0.019,
p=0.031, respectively). Colitis group was defined by the severe detriment of surface epithelium, submucosal edema and
inflammatory cell infiltration. Treatment with GA significantly decreased inflammatory cell infiltration.
Conclusion: GA can be used as an effective agent in the treatment of colitis due to its inhibitory properties in multiple
pathways and its potent antioxidant effect
The use of social media among parents of infants with cleft lip and/or palate
Purpose: To determine the purpose of the parents of infants with cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P) for using Facebook,
how they share for the audience and what kind of information they search for.
Design and methods: The results of the study were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
Data were collected for one major social media platform (Facebook) from public accounts dedicated to CL/P.
The former involved thematic and word count analysis for online posts on the Facebook platform, while the latter
employed descriptive statistics.
Results: Facebook has a total of 8 group accounts and 7695 users in Turkey. Among the 702 posts analyzed,
“requesting information” was found to be the most commonly encountered theme (55.4%). This study, it was determined that especially parents of infants with CL/P need information about surgery. The “announcement” was
mentioned in only 3.3% of all posts. Our text analysis of 17.134 words mentioned in posts revealed that the most
common word was surgery (6.6%).
Conclusions: The current study provides a comprehensive reference to the role of social media in CL/P.
Practice implications: In the near future, analysis of patients' and public knowledge and perception of
surgery will be an important next step in building greater awareness of its role in the management
of CL/P
Intolerance of uncertainty and mental wellbeing: serial mediation by rumination and fear of covid-19
The novel coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has become globally widespread
with millions of confirmed cases and many countries implementing various levels of
quarantine. Therefore, it is important to investigate the psychological consequences of
this process, given the unique situation that has been experienced globally. Therefore, the
present study examined whether intolerance of uncertainty was related to mental
wellbeing and whether this relationship was mediated by rumination and fear of
COVID-19. The sample comprised 1772 Turkish individuals (aged between 18 and
73 years) from 79 of 81 cities in Turkey, who completed measures of mental wellbeing,
intolerance of uncertainty, rumination, and fear of COVID-19. Results of serial mediation
analyses showed that intolerance of uncertainty had a significant direct effect on mental
wellbeing. Rumination and fear of COVID-19, in combination, serially mediated the
association between intolerance of uncertainty and mental wellbeing. The findings are
discussed within the framework of the psychological consequences of the COVID-19
pandemic and related literature
Octa- and tetra-substituted phthalocyanines with methoxyeugenol group: synthesis, characterization and in vitro antimicrobial activity
In this study, the novel phthalonitrile derivatives1and2weresynthesized. Tetra-substituted metal-free1a(H2Pc) and metalloph-thalocyanines (ZnPc1b,CoPc1cand CuPc1d) bearing four per-ipheral 4-allyl-2,6-dimethoxyphenol (methoxy-eugenol) groupsand octa-substituted metal-free2aand metallophthalocyanines(ZnPc2b,CoPc2cand CuPc2d) bearing eight peripheralmethoxy-eugenol group were synthesized. All new synthesizedcompounds are characterized by IR,13Cf1HgNMR (for1and2),UV-Vis (for1a–2d) and mass spectroscopy. Antimicrobial activitiesof the synthesized phthalonitrile derivatives (1and2) andphthalocyanine compounds1a–2dwere determined by microdi-lution broth method against nine different bacteria and one yeastspecies. In this study, CoPc (2c) compound, which has eight per-ipheral 4-allyl-2,6-dimethoxyphenol, had the highest antibacterialactivity (minimum inhibitory concentration [MIC]¼312lg/mL). Inaddition,1b,1d,2band2dwere found to be effective on atleast three different bacterial species at different concentrations(MIC¼1250–5000lg/mL).Shigella flexneriwere the most affectedbacteria, but none of the compounds were effective against fun-gal isolate.Artvin Coruh University: 2019.F90.02.0

The present research aims to develop a theory on teacher–student interaction in the first year of primary school period. The present research was designed in grounded theory research which is one of the qualitative research traditions. A total of 18 primary school children started the first year of primary school. Data were collected through participant observation. Participant observation was launched after all necessary ethical permissions were taken from local education authority, the participant children, their teacher, and parents. Data were analyzed through constant comparison within three stages as open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. It was reported that the teacher and the first graders mutually developed strategies and there were several circumstances in the interaction that nested behavioral problem
Fear of COVID-19, mindfulness, humor, and hopelessness: A multiple mediation analysis
Hopelessness is an important vulnerability factor for depressive symptomology and
suicidal ideations. It may also play an important role in the fear of coronavirus 2019
(COVID-19). Therefore, the present study tested the mediating role of mindful awareness
and humor (both identified as coping strategies for dealing with stressful situations) in the
relationship between fear of COVID-19 and hopelessness. Participants comprised 786
Turkish individuals (562 females and 224 males; aged between 18 and 67 years) from 71
of 81 cities in Turkey. An online convenience sampling method was used to recruit
participants. Participants completed surveys including the Fear of COVID-19 Scale, Beck
Hopelessness Scale, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, and Coping Humor Scale. The
model was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM) and utilizing bootstrapping.
The results of SEM showed that the effect of fear of COVID-19 on hopelessness was
partly mediated by mindfulness and humor, and which was supported by bootstrapping.
Therefore, higher fear of COVID-19 was associated with lower mindfulness and humor.
In turn, lower mindfulness and humor were related with higher hopelessness. Findings are
discussed in the context of COVID-19 and the hopelessness literature, and practical
implications for counselors are also provide
