Evaluation & Criticism : Transversal Comparative Approach to Middle-Class Mass Housing
No full textThe COST-Action (CA 18137) on Middle Class Mass Housing in Europe (MCMH-EU) has established a transnational scientific network to document the productions of middle-class mass housing built in Europe since the 1950s in order to investigate this specific topic and share knowledge. Considering that middle-class mass housing dominates most of our cities, the research translates into the study of the extensive development of cities in Europe after World War II. The breadth of the theme and the differences between the countries make it difficult to construct a systematic and unified criticism of middle-class mass housing, albeit concentrating on the post-war period. The COST-Action has the goal to build a network to gather research representing the pooled knowledge and experiences from the network of multidisciplinary researchers. So, transversally throughout the Working Groups, an inventory of case studies, a collection of articles, and studies on the policies were produced. This paper elaborates on the collected and produced material and data in order to trigger comparisons and reflections on the approaches and methodologies to face the complexity of middle-class mass housing topic. The comparison was built by using different methods intersecting multiple points of view and following specific thematic tracks that seek to deconstruct the complexity of the middle-class mass housing topic into singular aspects. This paper presents the results of data analyses, visualisation techniques and comparative studies to identify massification processes, morphological structures, demographic and policy developments. It shows a combination of several methods to build a cross-sectional and systematic approach to the diverse knowledge envisioned to develop a methodology for future research. This can be especially useful for future developments and insights towards joint or individual European guidelines, laws and policies to improve the dilapidated housing stock, current housing situation and to compete the housing crisis in general

No full textm BMBF-Verbundprojekt HAnS entwickeln und implementieren neun Hochschulen sowie drei hochschulübergreifende Einrichtungen ein intelligentes Hochschul-Assistenz-System als Open-Source-Lösung. Videobasierte Lehrmaterialien werden verschriftlicht und durch eine Indexierung Stichwortsuchen ermöglicht; geplant ist, über einen KI-Tutor automatisiert Übungsaufgaben zu generieren. Studierende sollen so in ihrem Selbststudium digital unterstützt werden. Die technische Entwicklung wird interdisziplinär – auch sozialwissenschaftlich und pädagogisch – begleitet und in einem iterativen Vorgehen evidenzbasiert entsprechend Design-Based-Research angepasst. Wissen und Wertesystem der Anwender*innen, Didaktik, Ethik, Akzeptanz und Datenschutz werden dabei im Entwicklungsprozess einbezogen.In the Project HAnS nine universities and three cross-institutional initiatives have teamed up on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to design and implement an intelligent university assistance system as open source. The goal is to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) tutor for higher education that transcribes video-based teaching material and enables keyword searches via indexing, but furthermore automatically generates exercises. As a result, students will be digitally assisted in their self-study. According to the design-based research idea, technological development is accompanied by an interdisciplinary approach and is checked and continuously altered throughout the developmental process in terms of user knowledge and values, pedagogical knowledge, ethics, acceptability and data protection
Emergent Leadership and Team Performance in Short-term, Virtual Teams: A Configurational Approach
No full textWhile considerable research has been conducted on understanding the multiple drivers of informal emergent leadership, less attention has been given to the implications of these emergent leaders for a team’s success. Integrating socioanalytic and functional leadership theory, we developed and tested a multilevel model of antecedents and outcomes of emergent leadership within short-term, virtual teams. We propose that distinct configurations of explicit motives may lead to emergent leadership, and that the resulting leadership motive profiles combine with team processes to promote team success. Hence, we apply a configurational, person-centered perspective to examine what combinations will be sufficient to emerge as a leader and achieve superior team performance. Using fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) at individual and team level (223 individuals in 54 teams), we find two causal paths involving specific motive configurations for emergent leadership, namely a) presence of preference for teamwork combined with presence of goal priority and of power motive (the captain), b) absence of preference for teamwork combined with presence of reliance (the opportunist); and multiple causal paths for superior team performance, either combining different team processes regardless of leadership, or if leadership is needed, then only the captain with different combinations of team processes

No full textNile Red as a Fluorescence Marker and Antioxidant for Regenerative Fuels
No full textThis article contributes to the ongoing dialogue regarding the future application of renewable e‐fuels as part of a holistic solution to the energy crisis. In order to be able to continue using internal combustion engines in a sustainable manner, it must be ensured that these engines are operated exclusively with renewable, CO2‐neutral fuels. One way to achieve this is the use of a fluorescence sensor in the vehicle in combination with fuels that are labeled with a fluorescence marker. This study presents an investigation into the use of the benzophenoxazine dye Nile red as a fluorescent marker for distinguishing fossil from renewable fuels. In addition to assessing the stability of the fluorescent marker against thermo‐oxidative aging, the study probes its antioxidative impact on fuel aging, by comparing unlabeled and with Nile red labeled aged fuels. Furthermore, an examination of fuel‐specific parameters underscores the positive effect of Nile red on fuel stability. A comparison with the antioxidant butylated hydroxytoluene confirms the antioxidant effect of Nile red
