A report on a rural development program in Kagoshima : a case study of a joint project by Kagoshima Prefecture and the International University of Kagoshima
This paper is about the coordination problem in the region-university cooperation through the rural development program to prompt the residents to rediscover their own village. In this paper the author reports his own experience in the rural development program jointly organized by Kagoshima prefecture and the International University of Kagoshima. The program is constituted by the walking event for villagers for finding the village’s good points and bad points and the several workshops for talking for planning how to develop and utilize the good points and how to improve the bad points. This is originally aimed to enhance the ability of residents to govern themselves and to organize the activity for conservation of the rural environment. In 2009 Kagoshima prefecture proposed a plan to the International University of Kagoshima to make the students participate in the program to stimulate the residents to reach a brand-new idea and they started the cooperation. Through this experience it became clear that it is important to coordinate the learning processes of both the villagers and the students, though their natures of learning are rather different.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

Students' Attitude during Student Teaching at Kindergartens Comparison of evaluation made by kindergartens and the one by student teachers during "Student Teaching at Kindergartens" in June, FY 2010
Students intending to acquire a kindergarten teacher' s license are required to conduct student teaching. Advance guidance for practical kindergarten-based training is provided prior to the student teaching sessions. The training is performed by kindergartens located in and out of Kagoshima Prefecture upon request. However, despite the advance guidance, the host kindergartens have pointed out the inactive approach of students, or incomplete nursing / teaching plan guidance and other perspectives regarding the students' attitudes. We have tried to grasp the present status of the students' attitude during their student teaching through our observations by visiting kindergartens, and by collecting information from the kindergartens. This paper discusses the measures towards better and improved advance guidance given to students before they practice student teaching at kindergartens. 1 will consider the students attitude during the practical training period of student teaching through comparison and analysis of the evaluation made by the host kindergartens and self-evaluation made by students.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

Area Marketing Techniques in Japan 1
I am a management consultant with my business specialized in the marketing field. Most of questions from my customers are “how they can sell much more to make money”. In answer to their request, I have proposed to introduce the “Area Marketing” that it is effective to meet local needs without performing a uniform marketing activity in all the company.
This paper “Area Marketing Techniques in Japan” is written completely through my consult¬ing business above and my experience, knowledge and skill obtained in lectures at a manage¬ment school.
1. What “Area Marketing” is
“Area Marketing” is a theory of marketing set up in Japan in the 1970s. Its concept is that “the sales system to increase profit” in a local place is built up by discerning the local character¬istics such as local culture, residents’ nature, industrial structure and regional differences, exclud-ing the same and uniform marketing activity throughout the country.
2. Local characteristics and their main factors
The abovementioned local characteristics are the local originality and characteristics includ¬ing the residents’ nature, local culture and local industry and are also expressed in other words as the remarkable differences with other regions.
As the four main factors producing the local characteristics, there are (1) natural environ¬ments such as physical aspect and climate, (2) historical background, (3) composition of population and (4) difference of regional economy based on industrial structure and commercial capital.
3. How to advance “Area Marketing”
In the “Area Marketing”, the areas are classified individually depending on the administrative districts such as urban and rural prefectures, cities, towns and villages or the large-size city zones and economic zones that cover the multiple administrative districts. After that, it is neces¬sary to follow the next five procedures: (1) environmental analysis, (2) market fractionization, (3) target of customers and markets, (4) strategy plan and (5) execution while confirming the areas’ local characteristics and regional differences.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
The Meaning of the Tomioka Silk Mill
The Tomioka Silk Mill, built over 100 years ago, was the world’s first large scale reeling factory at that time. The Meiji Government made the factory for raw silk resources. A French technician, Paul Brunat, was hired for the construction of the Tomioka Silk Mill. It was operated under both new European technology and original Japanese methods of construction.
The turning point for the Tomioka Silk Mill was a close of the operation in 1987. Some people recognized the significance of the factory’s existence, and then the Tomioka Silk Mill Association was organized in 1988. Many people came to feel that the Tomioka Silk Mill and other cultural assets relating to raw silk were important for the city of Tomioka. Finally in 2007 those were designated as a potential World Heritage Site. In this process, citizen activities played an important part. At same time we should consider how Katakura Industries made a large contribution toward being designated as a potential World Heritage Site.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
