Review on realizing geopark and geotourism
The primary objective of this writing is to clarify what Geopark is and what the characteristics of Geotourism are, which have been developed in Geopark, to provide further predictive insights into various issues for progressions in both.
In concrete, on promoting Geopark and Geotourism, we considered points to keep in mind comparing with other kinds of tourisms such as tourism for the history or world heritage, also the current conditions and problems about enhancement of geoscience and physical geography education which are essential for promotion of Geopark.
As a result, specialist who study in tourism are obliged to elevate it into more characteristic tourism area by giving honest advice from the standpoint of tourism specialist on the difficulty of comments or setting of the routes of Geosites by standing on the definition of Geopark and Geotourisms.
Thus, by grasping the balance of demand and supply from the viewpoint of tourism study beforehand, such as Geoside which local residents want to introduce and which tourist feel like to visit, we should be able see the direction for “sustainable social, economical progress of the regions”
About geoscience and physical geography in school education, it is difficult to change it drastically.
However, as long as schools exist in relationships with regional communities, we need to rethink about how they could contribute as school educations in the areas where they call for Geopark and Geotourism.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
Reexamination of the problem of the branch plant economy
Since Massey (1984) analyzed the dependency of the branch plant economy, many researchers have pointed out its instability and vulnerability to the change of economic circumstances. However, the regional development policy makers still have a strong tendency to stick to the promotion of location of branch plants of large firms. However, the tendency to the globalization of industrial location and the economic recession nowadays confront us with the difficulty of such a policy. Here we reexamine the problem of branch plant economy and show some recent examples of the location adjustment and its influence on an economy of a small city in Kagoshima.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
Two examples of successful city center revitalization : the cases of Takamatsu City and Nagahama City
With the enforcement of three town planning acts, the centers of Japanese regional cities have suffered markedly and become notably hollowed out. In particular, old shopping districts have deteriorated significantly.
Despite these conditions in much of Japan, the city centers in Takamatsu and Nagahama have been revitalized. Takamatsu’s Marugamemachi Shopping Street Association has redeveloped the shopping district making use of a fixed-term land lease. In Nagahama City, the traditional shopping district was revitalized by making use of an old bank building. The Kurokabe Corporation established a glassware business as a third sector company with private sector capital. As a result, the old shopping district is frequented by tourists throughout the year.
As successful examples of the improvement and vitalization of their city centers, we consider the methods applied by Takamatsu and Nagahama in this paper.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
The future of industrial promotion in branch plant economy
Constructing an industrial park as the way of the promotion of local industry is now more and more losing effectiveness. The trend of industrial location changes as time goes by. Companies came to pursue the optimal plant location not only in Japan but also in Asian countries. More and more companies come to take the overseas location of their plants into consideration. The regional governments should recognize that, however small the factories are, they are continuing to change themselves in order to survive in global competition, and thus should promote local industries without relying on the temporal competitiveness of a few major branch factories. The exhausted regions, where the local industries such as agriculture or manufacturing are declining are increasing in these days. However, there is no royal road in the promotion policy of local industry. Thus it is necessary for the region to grasp the whole regional industry and to make the vision for economic development not to depend on a particular industry, and then encourage the local residents and firms in the long-run basis. On the other hand, it is important to the local policy maker to be in close contact with workplace of the local industries and to understand the reality of the business administration and the worker’s subsistence. Making such a steady efforts, the government will have the capability to make an effective industrial policy, and then can utilize the branch plants placed in the region.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
Local information
Professor Bayer of the Russian Academy of Science interviewed Gonza, whose ship had been blown off course and landed in Russia, on February the first in 1734. Bayer asked Gonza a ques¬tion about “Iroha”, Japanese syllables.Gonza pronounced it correctly, but Bayer wrote the order of the Japanese “Iroha” syllables incorrectly. Bayer’s “Iroha” mistakes the order of the 28~30th letters to 30-28-29. This paper researches how this happened.
Where did Bayer begin to go out of the order? Bayer adopted “Iroha” from the Kaihen an¬cient Chinese dictionary of the 16th century. Most “Kaihen” dictionaries have the same mistake. I traced the succession of the order of “Iroha” among Kaihens. The first “Kaihen” to record this “Iroha” mistake was the Kaihen-shinkyō (1596). The Kaihen-shinkyō adopted “Iroha” from the Shi-ryūkyū-roku report of ancient Chinese envoy to Ryūkyū. The order of Shi-ryūkyū-roku’s “Iroha” is correct in the 28-29 and 30th letters. Why Kaihens had this mistaken in the order? It remains a mystery.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

A view of the collapse of investment banking business model in global financial crisis
Investment banks have played an important role in the capital market, especially, the direct finance developed at present. Raising capital for corporations, providing advice on transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, as well as trading securities are the main businesses of invest¬ment banks.
Because the financial engineering developed, investment banks have continuously created securitized products such as Residential Mortgage-Backed Security (RMBS) and Collateralized Debt Obligation (CDO) since 2000. The scale of securitized products climbed to $520 billion and reached the peak at the end of 2006. Investment banks and other financial institutions got huge profits from the capital market. But, the price of securitized products such as CDOs have plum¬meted to the ground when the subprime mortgage crisis happened, so hedge funds, mutual funds and investment banks have suffered huge losses in the global financial crisis. Even if the fourth biggest investment bank Lehman Brothers had to file for bankruptcy protection on September 15, 2008.
This paper will analyze the business model of investment banks, and examine whether an excessively expanded business of investment banks connect with this financial crisis.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape
